I'm playing Diablo 2 and trying to make an Ice sorceress, but I'm not really sure what skills and stats to invest points into. So I would like to know what you guys can tell me, should I have a lot of Energy? Vitality? Put 20 skill points to Glacial Spike and Blizzard? Suggestions please
I would go with investing points into Vitality. I have never used a shield for a Sorc. I have always went with a 2-handed staff. As a caster you should not be getting into melee range. Since the shield only blocks against physical hits and most of those are melee. Higher life will help to keep you alive and hopefully from getting into hit recovery when you do get hit. Your merc should be taking most of the hits and if need be you can teleport away to regroup.

That is true, however being hit by a sorc is very bad, hurts alot since they have really BAD life. Which is why alot of players still use a shield, in Hardcore you always use a shield lol...

Spirit Shield. 25-35 FCR, res, +2 to all skills, energy I think (it's been a while). That's why you use a shield. Cheap as heck to make. It's not really about the defense or block, although that's nice. And, of course, depending on your tastes, there are alternatives for rare shields, though you won't ever find a +2 to all skills modifier on a shield.
I've used both orb and blizzard builds and personally prefer the blizzard build. If you're fighting a big boss like Andariel or Duriel, you're pretty much guaranteed to have all the shots hit, and you don't need to be facing at your enemies to cast it for full effect (cast it in front of you as you run and the monsters will go right through all of it behind you, as opposed to orb, which, unless you turn around, will waste most of its bolts, and, in addition, will be going in the opposite direction of your enemies). I also believe that it's far easier to build a very, very powerful blizzard up with cheap gear than it is for orb to really get to its prime.
This would be the build I'd do for a cheap Blizzard Sorceress:
The Oculus[1H Weapon] - MF, Res, +3 to skills, etc. The auto-tele is annoying, though. It's cheap. Or Spirit Rune Word Sword [1H Weapon] - FCR, +2 to skills, res, FHR, etc.
Spirit Rune Word Shield [1H Shield] - FCR, +2 to skills, res, FHR, etc. There's other options, but this is so easy to make and so cheap it would be dumb to bother looking for a unique to fill this.
Harlequin Crest Shako [Helmet] - +2 to skills, DR, MF, etc. Pretty cheap. Alternatives are Lore Rune Word in a helmet, a rare circlet with +skills, fcr, vitality, mf, etc.
Belt, depends how much you want to spend, and if you want MF or power. Arachnid's Sash is my favorite. You can also use Tal Rasha's Fine-Spun Cloth. It's cheap and easy to find, has MF, mana, dex (for maxing block).
Armor, since I'm used to my lit sorce I'd say Chains of Honor Rune Word, but you can pretty much use anything with +skills, hopefully some res, and MF won't hurt.
If you happen to be ladder USW, I can give you some nice starter gear, if you want.
Wow. Thanks for the help! Looks like I have a lot of options...
My character is single player, I never play on b.net (my internet sucks :P), and right now I got 50 points into vitality and energy, 7 skill points into warmth and 5 into ice blast. What do you think should be my main attacking skill? Blizzard, Frozen Orb or Glacial Spike? Thanks a lot for your suggestions :D.

Glacial Spike is really only handy for sticky situations, like when you're low on health and being pursued by a large mob. It's not very reliable for damage. Max it only if you need it as a synergy. The real choice is either Blizzard or Frozen Orb. If you use Blizzard, you're going to want to use Ice Blast as your alternate attack to spam while the cooldown for Blizzard is ticking, and also for general monsters (if you don't have the mana to use Blizzard).
Like Ophion said, one point in Warmth is all you want. +skill modifiers on later equipment will more than satisfy your need for a higher level Warmth, and, in general, later equipment will give you a large mana pool and plenty of energy.
You actually have three respecs for skills and stats at Akara, one for each difficulty, after completing the Den of Evil, so you can always just try what you want first to see if you like it, re-evaluate your approach, and use the respecs to tighten your build. If you're not too far in to the game already, I'd recommend just starting over with one point in Warmth just so you don't waste an entire respec for that one mishap.
I do know about Spirit runeword. I still prefer using a staff for a sorc even in Hardcore. The sorc has a good skill to help against damage in Energy Shield. I would rather pump up Vitality and Energy. I once made a pure Energy Sorc in HC. I think she made it deep in Nightmare.
But I have a habit of building characters that are not normal and sometimes can be called insane. The most insane sorc that I am building is in a ES/Zy-El tourney. She is going to be a no defense build using a 2-hander weapon likely a Thunder Maul. She will be teleporting straight into enemy packs and getting hit. I am hoping that returned damage from cold/lightning and physical (flat and returned %) will help with killing. Much of her build is based on theory of Zy-El mod.

Some of the information is flawed. PDR% is capped at 50%. ES can get higher at least in the spell discription. ES maybe capped 50%. I would have to check Phrozen Keep for the information on the calc for DR on ES. I do know that flat PDR/MDR is applied before any of percantage PDR/MDR. Again I would have to check that site in regards to ES.

you misread (easy thing to do since he cant spell), its not damage reduced by % like on shaft, but damage reduced by an integer, like on gladiators bane. ES is capped at 95% of damage absorbed, but the pdr/mdr will make up for the last 5%.
this isnt a theorycraft build and ive dueled his sorc before. he went afk on my barb and i couldnt kill him

Thanks a lot!
add 1 pt to each of the cold armour line
add to tele.
all pts into vita after enough for equips.
or u can make an orb sorc, same thing except with frozen orb.
u might want to spend extra skills on fireball to deal with immunes.

There ya go, Magistrate.
Wow, yeah, that runeword is awesome. FHR, FCR, vitality, mana, godly defense, defense against missiles... lol.
