Considering D3, does any one know what’s happening with mercenaries this time around? I’m mostly a single player and I tend to be very reliable on my little buddies – mostly for diversion purposes
I was playing D2 yesterday, and once again, I was sadly reminded by Natalya - that although she wanted, she could not join me on my quest. From that moment I thought it would be fantastic if we had to opportunity to hire local or legendary heroes, or even receive these mercenaries on a quest, as well as the standard guys. Bearing in mind single player mode, I was wondering what anyone thought of that.
Well at the Barbarian gameplay video ( first gameplay video ) it seems he gets "help" from 2 guards, to scort Cain, it seems you can have multiple mercenaries with that engine, and/or tag along with some npcs ( Legendaries or not ) just for a little.
It would be nice to have Tyrael tagging along (I did have him as a mini pet following me around in WoW haha) but I guess that's asking for too much. At least Azarel helped my sorc kill cold immunes while doing solo Baal runs. Good ole' Act 2 might merc!
I think it would be nice if we met one of the old D2 character in a very dramatic passage. Like:
You're in a graveyard and a unbeatable amount of monsters approach. Then, suddenly the graves erupts and skeletons warriors and mages help you for no clear reason. Fater defeat the hord with the aid of the undead minions the spirit of the old necromancer appears, revealing from where the aid came and giving a very important info.
It's completely plauseable that the old characters can re-appear in D3, I think Bashiok made a recent comment about it. Whether or not they would help, I doubt they have implemented anything like I was suggesting, but who knows how their story-telling has advanced in the new game? As Clew mentioned earlier, when those two guards and Cain join the Barbarian, that's enough to make me wonder.
