... character assuming you pull off the perfect build? I'm a few versions removed from D2 and playing online seeing as how I haven't played online in over 2 years. But when I did there was always talk about which character is too powerful and strong and what characters needed to be cut down some by Blizzard (Zon for ex.). Well I'm not too up to speed on things quite yet and I'm wondering where all of that stands now.
So assuming you pull off a perfect, flawless build; which is the best all-around and strongest character?

Long, long time Diablo fan; short, short time with DiabloFans. USEast D2 Ladder/1.13 Beta: Accnt = ChezPizmo USEast WCIII Ladder: Accnt = TeeheeSprinkles A cool, unrelated video; "Dude Bids 420 on Price is Right" ("420, Bob") "I'm nasty, I'm old and a little bit ornery; I look like Patrick Stewart and sound like Sean Connery." Well I suppose the Hammerdin is the most complained about character nowadays, with an attack that can barely be resisted by any monster in game, and outiftted with an Enigma it just gets better.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

There may be other classes I'm unaware of.
I've always heard that, too. There use to be a few others back in the day but like I said, I'm a few years removed form D2 B.NET.
A Bowzon was always very powerful, too. I remember all of them having that helm that stole so much health on hit and having maxed out guided arrow along with all the other ridiculous elite items.

I have a level 94 Hdin and it is true, they seem to be the best.
There is only ONE monster I have EVER encountered that hammers can't hurt...
Some yeti-like beasties in Act3 where you get the book for quest 4 I think. And there is only like 5. xD
Lightning Sorceress. I've gotten up to 50k damage per shot. That combined with high FCR and Infinity makes you, ostensibly, God. I've seen people who've gotten as high as 55k.
Too many lightning immunes.
Even with Infinity, if you're not careful in CS for instance, your merc dies right away.
I'd still have to go with Hdin over a Light Sorc. Light sorc is 2nd place, easy though.

Carloseus made an "81k Lightning Sorc" thead back in the day. I never did know if he actually did 81k damage though.

It's "element" is Magic.
True, but with the added bonus that it completely pierces magic resistance on Demons and Undead, leaving but one monster, the Wailing Beast, which a Hammerdin cannot hurt.

Well... I'd say the most OP char build i've ever encountered... was a Bonemancer with an enigma... and I have no idea what else...
But the nec apparently had massive life and really high bone armor, because he was out tanking the uber WW barb that was in the game as well. Teleportation is one of the few things that i dislike when dueling against. >.<

I am one of many...
Do not consider me insane or crazy, I am but a person who seeks a change in the life styles of life we must live.
Conformity has no curve.. but is a circle at the same time...
Do not judge me for attempting to change the way in which i live my life, while i slowly change the lives of those around me...
For when i am gone.. the world will have changed... if only slightly. But when i am gone.. others will take my place...

Depends how weak you are. I've seen plenty of Hammerdins doing Chaos runs that start whining when their merc dies because they can't account for the loss of the mana regen from Meditation. I've never had a problem with my merc dying because my FCR was very high and I just got in to the habit of teleporting around like crazy, like any real Lightning Sorceress should do to start with.
Well in Diablo 2 classic its the hammerdin due to the fact that people use a skill called "Desynch"
You charge across the map with vigor on and your charecter kind of looks like its lagging and once you actually enter the stage of desynch your charcter looks like its charging into a wall (Not moving) and the dins just start popping up and disappering.
Xpack desynch is trash, which is why I play classic..

Yeah bots, tppk, dupes, overpowered runewords, overepowered items in general, overpowered hirelings, the idiots, the lamers, the item sellers, boring act5, 2 useless characters.
Fireball Sorces are nice because not only does it heap massive amounts of damage with a low damage cavity, but it also has a slight, but nice, staggering affect, which works wonderfully to your advantage if you have good FCR and enough mana to keep spamming it on a player.

They are also, compared to other classes, VERY cheap to make. Lightning sorc takes heaps of riches and ebaying.

You're missing out on a lot playing classic.
CyberPunk RP Nexus
Ah the list could go on forever.
RIP: Demon Hunter: lvl 50 | Barb: lvl 60 (plvl 5) | Monk: lvl12 & lvl70 (plvl 200)
best pvm is the hammerdin
best ubering character is obviously smiter (also really good at pvp)

Also true. Of course, if you're getting only the best gear, a light sorce pwns in PVP, too
Well, best gear for a bowa/Glass Cannon is pretty entertaining, too.
