Alright, you're probably all wondering what I mean when I ask that.
I just played Diablo II: LoD after having not played it for around a month or two. Seriously though, and not to sound like a complete fucking tool, and a complete fucking nerd, but the game is just "wow" worthy. I mean, I'm in the Rogue Encampment, trading with Akara, with the music playing, and the sound of rain pounding. I mean, that really brought back a lot of memories, and really made me thing that every single little detail has effected all of us Diablo fans; from the barely hearable background sounds in the music, to the sound of the rain, to the sound of zombies, the colors, the graphics (no matter how old they are), the bar on the bottom..everything. But to get to my question. Does this feeling of "awe", if I may use that word, instilled in us when we play Diablo (presuming you guys feel as so), coming from us playing such a fucking marvelous, wellthought, perfect game, nostalgia, or a simple amalgam of both? I really think it's a perfect mixture of the both, because I've been playing this game since I was like, 11? It brings back so many good memories, but not just because I played it at that age..I played Mario at that age and it means little to nothing for me..it's because such great details, and such greatness in the game had such a profound impact (With regards to games) on my "gaming" life. It's not just a game anymore, it's an entirely new experience.
Diablo to me was great because it was done with lower-end graphics than were considered "cool" at the time. It came out a little after the first onslaught of PS2, XBox, and Gamecube games, if I'm not mistaken. And guess what? It was a complete success. And why? Because the focus was on getting people together to enjoy a game that's free, simple, and fun to play. You didn't need a maxed out computer to play it. That's something that annoys me with all these newbie Diablo fans popping up the last few years- they all think graphics are what make a game. Sure, it's a nice feature, but in all honesty, for the Diablo series, it's always been about playing with your friends and everything that stems from that ideal. That's my take- magnificence in the area of multiplayer interactivity and accessibility for its time and even to this day.
Exactly. Think about it though..we like every single detail about that game..every single detail that has been thought out, and really sets this game aside from all the rest.
The game is wow worthy, your take is absolutely spot on. The music, atmosphere, and fun have never (and will never) be matched by any other game. It is truly the best game of all time.
It is also nostalgia, because I got the game when I was fucking 12 and playing it/remembering it brings me back. But I don't believe that that is why diablo 2 is the best game of all time. I wouldn't have such a nostalgic reaction if I hadn't been completely engrossed by it as a child.

Yeah I know. I still remember my brother raping my Sorceress because he wanted some character to try the Shadowmaster editor on :\
Graphics really mean close to nothing to me. Look at Crysis..shit game at best.
Its certainly a bit of both. Nostalgia always plays a part, but there is a reason so many people STILL play and love the game. Hell there are still things about the game iim learning today after its release because the item and other systems were so well developed and deep. Its also amazing how they managed to make a game with lower end graphics so memorable, but thats blizzards way with games, they really pay attention to all the little things and art style.
It's just amazing how everything was nailed spot on. I wonder if that can happen with Diablo III..then again, I don't think it can come close to the nostalgic feel sparked by Diablo II, for me at least.

I remember saying that about D2 when it was announced after being a big fan of D1
I've never even played on B Net, and none of my friends play Diablo..it was only my brother and his friends, and I was way too young to tag along then.
Give D2 a whirl on bnet....try and get a good hdin or something on the go.....im sure somebody on these forums would help ya out....i would if i had anything anymore....but ill be on again after the new year
There's only one word I can think of to describe this game, and that word is easily "Amazing". I played diablo religiously for 3-4 years, but I ended up falling into the wretches of the pay to play world some where along the lines an got sucked into wow, and the social atmosphere kept me so long that I pretty much forgot all about the amazingly geared characters I had on D2, it was fun.
The way Diablo 3 is shaping up, it might be the only game I buy the year it comes out. Game publishers think it's a good idea to drain pockets and release an array of video games within 2 - 3 months of eachother, and it quite frainkly burns holes in my pockets, then I end up not being able to play the games I got anyways, cause things happen so radically quick, life changes and you have to choose those games, or work / friends / family / etc, but I know as a hardcore gaming fan, that I'll never forget about the hella good times I had with the diablo games; it's definitely #1 in my book :D.
What an idiotic reply by an even more idiotic user squandering about to sound more of a smartass than he actually is. Go recycle your own personality then try and act like some big shit over a web forum, dumbass.
Game use to be wow worthy, but now its just way to easy. Just lvl a hammerdin, do the uber runs (1-92 in like 2 hours) then do the cookie cutter items and stats. Then you got an unstoppable killing machine that can go through all the act's on hell, and not die once. Maybe use a full rej pot once or twice due to lag.
It was fun when everyone was unique, but when 1.09 and 1.10 rolled around, everyone was just the same. Every time you see a:
Paladin: hamerdin or smiter
assassin: trap
nec: bone
sorc: fire or ice
druid: wind
barb: ww
amazon: bow
Any other type you saw wasn't effective and the game basically became a cookie cutter game.

what an infantile topic...recycled thoughts about diablo 2..its all been said many times now, and if you are amazed suddenly by it, please dont share it so loudly..
Thats not nice!!! Honestly I thought this topic was pretty cool and a hell of a lot better then the usual "ZOMG NEW CLASSes HOW MANY ARE THERE?!?!?!" or "D3 IS tURNING INTO WOW I HATE BLIZZARD IM MAD AT THE CHANGES THERE MAKING"
dont be insulted, i know you dont have the capacity to start a normal topic, this sucks and its reclyled and its stupid and not worth nothing, just a someone who needs attention, so posts stupid posts..go find another forum with people that will talk to retarded people like yourself!
Since God knows your topics and posts are full of intelligence and wit, and appeal to everyone everywhere. I've seen your posts, I've seen everything about you, and you wouldn't appeal to a 2 year old with Down Syndrome. Your grammatical and spelling capabilities just yell out dyslexia. You're just a frustrated young lad who is crying out to be heard, and to be looked at in a manner he can only dream of off of his computer. You're sad..shut up.

Then the people made it suck, really. By now, Blizzard doesn't really care about it anymore..they're just letting it die out slowly on its on. For a game, it had a great run, though.
