i just bought a laptop yesterday (3gb, 250gig harddrive nvidia geforce 7150m gfx card, windows vista) and i got diablo installed on it and runs great...without the mini map... but when i bring the mini map up it starts to lag... does anyone know what causes this problem and how i can fix it? i dont use hacks or mods or anything that would potentially make diablo slow... but i seem to go a little slow in channels and in game with mini map up... otherwise it looks great and runs smoothly...thank you
Bugsta, I mean Vista, hates old games, such as Diablo II. I am not schooled enough on Vista. But I think you wouldn't have that problem with XP.

It isnt a problem with Vista. Well not completely. Since it is a new laptop then you need to update everything. Drivers, your OS, stuff like that.
The problem is probably with your Graphics Card, it just needs to be updated. Very simple, if you know where to look.
Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Device Manager(If a prompt pops up after clicking this, then click Continue)>Display Adapters>[Your graphics card]
NOTE: Make sure you are in the Vista View of the Control Panel, NOT Classic View.
If problem persists, then go back to Control Panel>Security>Check for Updates. Service Pack 2 is out which will also fixx any other problems you have.

ok so now i updated vista and gfx card drivers etc etc... for a grand total of 13 updates... lol... and it still happens uhh... any more suggestions?... well maybe its just fuckin vista lolz... idk... i mean it runs knights of the old republic 1 and 2 smoothly and those are much more intense then diablo
Iono, just a random thought. Try changing the minimap so its a miniature sized in the corner or try changing the visibility of the minimap. See if that has any effects
You updated your NVIDIA drivers from the official NVIDIA site right?

Gamma 11, you know, I had the exact same problem after I installed Diablo 2 + LoD on my previous desktop PC. It was running XP Pro x64. Might not be the OS, but just a thought: What version of Vista are you running? 32bit or 64bit? (3gigs of ram so it's probably x64 right?)
I hope I could have been of more help, but I don't remember what I did after that. What I'm sure is that I didn't install some patch or drivers. I might have re-installed it, but I might have left it alone.
It lagged a lot and it was definetly annoying. I used the minimap only on intervals, so you get used to it. Try out some different fade/size/selection/view minimaps. That might be the problem.
If you haven't tried re-installing the game, do so. You've lost more time waiting for replies. And test it out before you install the expansion pack. Maybe you could try out minimum or recommended installation.
Have you installed SP 1 on Vista? I think you can download it for free. On XP it was needed to install Microsoft .NET Framework for some games to work. This was mostly for newer games though. Maybe there's something similar for Vista?
If all else fails- you'll probably have to use x86 Vista. Don't buy it legit- that might not be the problem so maybe you'll just waste your money. You just had to have 3 GB

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
yes it works on vista... great actually just not when mini map is up... i have updated all drivers even got vista service pack 2 (i think) i installed a bunch of updates yesterday so i think im set with that... ive done the different lvls of fade and min map but still no dice... o well ill just deal with it or email blizzard and see if they respond... thanks for the help
Did you remove ALL contents of the game when you unistalled? Just a thought.
What else do you have running in your background? Those items could be clashing with the program. Actually, if that was the case then the entire game would be lagging even without the minimap up.
If I remember correctly, you press Tab to being up the map. Make sure the key doesnt get stuck in, and make sure your background items dont have anything that has something trigger by pressing Tab.
