Pretty sure when you grab the cache everything inside is determined at that point. So holding onto them WILL NOT give you a chance at finding an ancient.
If i farm the cache with dh, and open it with barb the legendary rolls with str, so... my guess, maybe, if i keep caches after patch to open, ancient roll as well.
Blue hasn't said anything about it, but it could be a live > PTR copy 'bug'. In the past items copied from live caches have had different results on PTR, but this doesn't mean it will be so once the patch hits. If you're going to farm caches anyway, sure, save them up, it might work, but don't count on it.
Ofc you can have ancient rorg. caches roll items on opening
Correct, to an extent. The stats (and as far as we know this only affects the MAIN stat) roll on opening. However, the CONTENT (whether you get a RoRG or not) is pre-determined. There is still some gray area revolving around class specific items like wands, sources, mojos, mighty weapons, quivers, etc. However, saying that 'of course you can have an Ancient RoRG if you wait' is shortsighted. We simply don't know if the 'ancient' modifier on an item within a cache is determined upon acquisition or opening, or if this can be retroactive before the patch. Simply put, it's unknown.

Of course this is subject to change, but it seems that at the moment you can get an ancient from a cache copied to the PTR.
I'm aware. But as I mentioned in a previous comment, there have been issues in the past where certain cache/unid items were inconsistent when copied from live > PTR, which is really just a side effect of PTR and not indicative of the actual mechanics. Keep that in mind. All I'm saying is save up all your caches if you want, but if you don't get a single Ancient item out of them, don't say 'it's broken'.
They don't let us stockpile blood shards, so they are not going to intentionally allow potential Ancients to be stockpiled via caches. I would think if there is a blue answer it would be to confirm that it will be corrected before 2.1.2 goes live. There has not been a comment so there is a possibility that it may slip through.

If you have the time and space for it, why not?

Having said that an ancient RoRG, or any jewelry is really not going to give you much of a boost.
