Let's not blow this out of proportion. I'm referring to the graphics and graphics only. They look sick. The improved SC2 engine likewise looks sick. I would pay double, hell triple, for a D3 using the new SC2 engine. That's my point. I think eventually Blizzard will realize the cartoony style has to go, despite having the best gameplay out there. At some point it just gets in the way, which is why I predict (and will bet on) that we'll have a new Blizz MMO announced in 5 years and released in 5-10 based on the SC2 engine.
Graphics does not make a game good. The gameplay does. I still think Diablo 3 looks much better than that. Diablo II looks better than both in my eyes even today.
I am not stating graphics but looks and style.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
a non-changing world with terrain and textures (the map)
limited buildings and units available, based on the map and used races
multiple instances of the same model (20 marines, 50 zerglings - all the same model/texture)
"simple" form of archtitecture in comparison to MMO - e.g. you will never see barracks from the inside
a low amount of spell effects, some units even have none
Things about MMO:
open-world, so a variable world model and textures. moving around in the world means on the fly loading of the new models/textures/assets and unloading the ones, you dont need anymore
variable set of models depending on the enemies/npcs around the player
extremely variable set of models depending on the equipment used by players/npcs around the player
a much more complex architecture since you can move your camera nearly everywhere
a huge amount of spell effects
So the main difference is pretty much this:
RTS - you know whats up at the start of the game. MMO - you know nothing, everything has to be loaded dynamically.
And just to highlight it: I dont talk about gameplay, only graphics. Those two genres are so far away from each other in terms requirements to the graphic engine, I dont know how you can imagine that there will be a MMO based on the SC2 engine.
yeah, even on my "stronger" machine i hardly can play sc2 on higher details, while d3 goes better with that.
i wouldn't necessarily say that in sc2 there are limited models .. maybe d3 has some more mob types, but the possible amount of units on the screen is much higher in sc2. just think about the second half of the lightning-m6-dh nerfs (not the game imbalancing one)...
and in d3 u also won't see similar things, like, what's behind that wall/house.
wasn't it a similar/same engine used for d3 as used in sc2 anyway? don't know anymore for sure, maybe misheard something at release/announcement of sc2+d3.
but even if not, for my eyes, there's not that much of a difference, i mean, i don't really wanna know how a barracks looks from the inside, just as an example
You don't know the first goddamn thing about that game, other than it's flashy teaser.
I thought the movie Pacific Rim would be pretty badass when I saw the trailer. Then I watched it. The movie was as if it was created by a 12 year old Japanese boy from the 1960's, great special effects didn't help relieve this impression.

And you can't seem to distinguish the difference between a graphical style and gameplay. This thread is about graphics in Blizz games vs. others, not gameplay.
The original diablo 3 engine looked similar to this and we could use more than 6 skills. Unfortunately they wanted an easy console port, limited us to the number of buttons on a game pad and a dumbed down engine that looks good on a ps3/xbox
But was in dev after, the reason they made the change. The orig game/engine was technically superior. There were no cooldowns, all your skills if you bind them etc.
The 6 skill thing may have come from a wow dev team, since wow went to that dreadful system.
Diablo 3 is still the best console port (or non pure pc title if you prefer) of all time, they did a great job. But its still very limited in reguards to a pc game. Look at the settings, you dont have the detail sliders like you do in other pc games and other tweaks you can make to video. Its very basic. But plays perfectly crossplatform.
Just saying it could of been a lot better if it wasnt for console users who think you need 2 thousand dollars to play pc games and dont realize you can hook up a pc up to your tv

The engine doesn't necessitate the type of game.

Blizzard needs to get rid of the cartoony style graphics? No I don't think they should they do it for a reason.

ofc it's about graphics, but ... who would play a game only because of graphics? looking at fancy moving images is not playing, imo
