One thing i really loved about Diablo 3 was that i could, at any time during the day/night and at any character level/difficulty, instantly join a random group of players (EU).
After not playing diablo 3 for 6+ months I got RoSouls a week ago and so far i have managed to find only 2 other players!
I leveled my crusader from lvl1 to lvl65, changing difficulties from Hard to Expert to Master - and during all that time i have only seen 2 players join my public games!
When i try to join other people's campaign games, as i change through Acts and difficulties, the highest number of players shown to be doing any specific Act in public games is 1 (ONE PLAYER)!
When i try to find an "Adventure Mode" game already in progress, the system says there are 0 players currently playing Adventure Mode...
I am finding it hard to believe that, for the entire past week, there were only TWO people publicly playing the campaigns of D3 IN THE ENTIRE EUROPE!
I recall in Diablo 3 that for pretty much any campaign act at any difficulty there were 50+ players actively playing!
Is there any active specific level/act/difficulty/whatever where people actually gather to play in public games?
To me diablo 3 was so fun because of all the random people i could swiftly play with... RoSouls seems completely abandoned
People tend to boost their friends to 70 in less than an hour doing lvl 70 bounties and/or rifts. Thus the leveling process is really fast and barely something someone would still do the old fashioned way.
It's like before RoS for lvl 70 content, you always find people in public games.
Just take your time to lvl 70 and maybe join an active clan?
EDIT: I myself have only played the campaign twice with a friend for the speedrun achievment, other than that didn't touch it at all since RoS (apart from the first 60->70 Act5 run)
that is because you are playing level 65, almost everybody is playing 70 level champions. This is why you don't find any player.
You misread - i played from level ONE to level 65 (varying between 3 difficulties) and only found TWO players over the course of 7 DAYS...
In the old Diablo 3 at every level/act and difficulty there were many many players in the public games.
Seems that blizzard outright killed the public leveling with the bounty/rift bullcr*p rhaepso mentioned.
Quite a huge disappointment >.<
I'm not surprised that you don't find anyone in campaign mode, on pre-Torment, and below level 70. I personally haven't played a campaign mode game since March, and whenever I leveled a character I never did anything below Torment difficulty - but mostly, as already pointed out, people boost their toons to 70 anyways.
Everyone in our clan and on my friends list is playing level 70 T6 campaign mode exclusively - but no one ever in a public game. Searing for a clan or community is a much better way to get to know players. Public games are just very much like a lottery; you might find cool people, but you might also... well... be disappointed. In the end you really want to find some people to play regularly with (that's why clans are so great) as committing to Greater Rifts just takes time.
Adventure mode just offers a way better reward per time, be it items or experience. Nobody wants to play trough the story yet again, we know it for two years + now. It's like in D2, you powerlevel your chars and play at endgame level.
I like to play more in story mode than in adventure mode since I find it more fun and entertaining. The loot find is worse but still I do not care about uber items since I build ugly builds and have more fun playing that way than min maxing gear.
Not everyone plays the game the same way

Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.

You can say that again. I hate Story mode. soo boring. I have been dieing to play in NA server (HC) but i have not done story mode yet, there for i can not do bounties. And i can't even will myself to push threw story mode.
You mite do better in a clan or something OP, in finding people to lvl with.
Zero T1, T2, T3, T4,T5, T6 Seasonal Grift public games
ps.. or it was at least when i made the post and some mod came and close the thread....having to drop the entire clan tag just to play with other people is bs.
Sorry to resurrect this old post, I actually found it via a Google search as I have had the exact same issue as the OP. I'm currently at Level 65 and about 18 months ago, all of a sudden, I was able to find any online game with more than 1 (one) player. Thinking it was an issue on Diablo's end, I contacted the help desk but they were unable to help me - they thought it was an network issue. I tried with a totally different ISP and computer but still did not solve the issue.
From reading some of the replies - does noone really play public games anymore? It used to be quite popular before the expansion pack came out. If I level my character to Level 70, would I be able to find more public games? Thanks.
Tons of people play public games. Most of those people are at max level doing bounties, key runs, rifts and whatnot.
There are specific communities based on helping boost people up to max level, but I don't think there are many people doing public leveling, probably because it's a matter of an hour or two to get someone up to max level nowadays.

Yes. The pre-70 game is basically dead, most people want to rush through it as fast as possible. Many players get boosted to 70 in 10 minutes; there are powerleveling communities where you can get such a service for free. After that, on 70, you'll find more public games. Though many people (at least that I know) prefer communities over public games. Oftentimes communities and community-based games also have the advantage that there's more socializing going on than in anonymized public games, which results in a higher probability of item sharing.
Public games are matched around your current level so you would have to either get incredibly lucky or be close to the beginning of a season (and leveling up a new seasonal character) to find a lot of folks even able to join a public game at a level lower than 70.
No worries. Good luck.
Edit: Yeah you are right there is f*ck-all for people playing public games- especially since it is the end of the season. Go join a clan.
Imao, since comunities and clans became active sources of player base, public games bacame obsolete also.
Even at lv 70 its hard to find a public game at any difficulty level. And when you do, there is only a brunch of leechers to play with.
Clans and private game are the choices now if you dont want to lost time. But if you are just a casual player it doesnt matter anyway. Just have a fun as you can.
Thanks for the reply - I wish the people from Diablo told me this change 18 months ago! I stopped playing thinking it was an issue of my end.
Would you guys be able to nudge me to the right direction in finding communities to help me to level up? I'm so out of date with this change and up until last night I had no idea what communities were.
Lower right corner. The top one is your friends list. Communities is just below after it pops open. Type in "leveling" or whatever you are looking for. After you join a community enter the chat for community. The writing should be blue by default. Hit [Tab] until you see the community chat. If you don't see it available, go back to the community and make sure you have chat enabled.
