This shit has stoved my excitement for tomorrow's big launch. I swear if I could get my hands on one of these fucking punks.........
Apparently a new round of attacks has begun.
Yeah there's no end to it is there. I think it would be safe to assume they'd probably keep at it with the release of 2.1
I was actually surprised they continued before the launch. I anticipated them resuming Tuesday evening, but the little bitches couldn't wait. I simply cannot wait to see one of these cowards in cuff. It's only a matter of time when you get 3-letter agencies on your tail.
Fucking losers.... This is why I hate the internet culture, anyone with money wants to be famous for ten seconds.
DDOS serves a purpose. Security is not something that you set it and forget it. If battle.net is secure and configure correctly, then DDOS wouldn't take place.
Let's put it this way: you are luck that it is only a DDOS attack instead of a security leak where million of PII and CC are compromised.

This is semi-true. You can have precautions in-place that can deflect some of the volume, but you can still saturate the pipes and congest the internet to the point where you can't access the site. Even if you have DNS-level DDoS prevention, you can impact a site if your saturation is high enough.

i don't think you quiet understand how these DDOS attacks are happening. These aren't a matter of battle.net security and there is very little blizzard can do about it.

There are plenty Blizzard can do. If there is very little Blizzard can do, then they should be down forever. For the fact that they are fixing it or migrating the attack, they are doing something to prevent a similar attack from happening in the (near) future.
You have no understanding of how a DDoS works then. DDoS has nothing to do with security. It has to do with server infrastructure. All they are doing is sending so many requests to get into their servers that they are effectively shutting down their servers by overloading them (think Error 37). You can literally buy this service on the cheap. Some assholes are just doing this for shits and giggles. Fucking losers will be fucking losers.

That's the single stupidest thing I've ever heard.
I mean it's basically as stupid as the "she was wearing a short skirt, so she was asking to be raped" bullshit. Even if Blizzard doesn't protect themselves from DoS attacks, they are still illegal. Trying to denigrate Blizzard on this subject is making excuses for people who are breaking the law and that's despicable on your part.
If my car has no security system that doesn't give anyone the right to steal it. I am completely flabbergasted as to why you are attempting to justify car theft by blaming the owner for not having The Club on their steering wheel. This kind of victim-blaming only occurs on the internet where pathetic little people can talk shit with no repercussions.
I have no doubt that Blizzard could do more. I'm sure I could go out and get a better security system installed on my car too. But when people break the law there is no "well they didn't do enough to prevent me from attacking them" defense. It's nonsensical bullshit.

Please just stop you really don't know what DDOS means at all, it has nothing to do with security it has to do with overloading the servers so much that shit happens.
Here just for you please get informed:
DDOS is short for Distributed Denial of Service.
DDOS is a type of DOS attack where multiple compromised systems -- which are usually infected with a Trojan -- are used to target a single system causing a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. Victims of a DDoS attack consist of both the end targeted system and all systems maliciously used and controlled by the hacker in the distributed attack.
In a DDoS attack, the incoming traffic flooding the victim originates from many different sources – potentially hundreds of thousands or more. This effectively makes it impossible to stop the attack simply by blocking a single IP address; plus, it is very difficult to distinguish legitimate user traffic from attack traffic when spread across so many points of origin.
One common method of attack involves saturating the target machine with external communications requests, so much so that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered essentially unavailable. Such attacks usually lead to a server overload. In general terms, DoS attacks are implemented by either forcing the targeted computer(s) to reset, or consuming its resources so that it can no longer provide its intended service or obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately.
If there is very little Blizzard can do, then they should be down forever.

You tell 'em, Shaggs.
What's really grinding my gears is that some people seem to be willing to buy the political "stick it to the man" rhetoric these assholes spout. That they're attacking Sony because they are greedy and don't spend enough of their profits on security, which ultimately only hurts the players. Like that makes any fuckin' sense. I've heard several political messages from the LS, and as so many people do when they attack others, they always attach some self-righteous bullshit to it.
They even attacked PoE from what I heard, a free to play game. So there goes that idea of righteous indignation.
I don't know if this is some self-validation mechanism or perhaps a way of gaining support? Truth be told, people do this shit for 2 reasons only, they enjoy hurting others and they love attention.
Both of these goals were accomplished, and if these jerks are located in Russia, not sure we'll see them brought to justice. It would be nice to see them face charges. Myself, I'd like to load a machine gun ass with petrified turds and shoot the cocksuckers in the mouth. How would a machine gun ass function? TA-TA-TA-TA-TA-TURD

Could we be seeing a possible ruksak/Shaggy team up? If so, humanity has no chance...
so tempted to comment and teach people.. but my logic prevents me.. i'm amazed by how many people here comment without knowing the slightest things about networking and so on.. this is a new low, but hey, yelling the same shit louder, wins the day.. right?
Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.
Hey, if you have actual knowledge to share, please do. Of course there's some folks who think they know what they're talking about, but there are many more that want to know more about these issues quite humbly. As well, there are many that would likely teach you a thing or two. It's a good conversation to have, because from what I've read, this sort of thing is becoming more and more popular.
Myself, I barely know how to plug my cables in correctly.
wow @ people thinking security level on server/network setup has anything to do with being shutdown or affected by a massive botnet DDoS attack. Its amazing to me that people think current day DDoS attacks are like DDoSing people on AOL in the late 90's.

Lizard Squad themselves gave props to Microsoft for being considerably harder to disrupt. Which tells the layman that more can be done by these corps that are besieged by these attacks currently.
Yes, but its not "impossible" to DDoS people because of security measures or impervious code. Which was my point. Half the people on this post/internet think you can easily disable script kiddies from DDoSing you, and its a simple "fix". Its not.
Most of the time, you don't even recognize when a DDoS is happening because its squelched so fast we almost never see the repercussions of it. Its only when its on this scale do we really hear about it, and this isn't a typical DDoS attack.
While most company can always do more to protect themselves, even microsoft. When it happens its not really a lack of them trying. The fact that microsoft is harder to disrupt, the topic coming up every time large scale actions happen to multiple companies, doesent mean everyone else is just open doors. Theres always someone better and it happens to be that microsoft is usually pretty solid at keeping their service running no matter what and to be harder to mess with in general, even they could still improve on it.
A server client architecture is inherently vulnerable to attacks. If you put in some sort of measures, you will only move the point of vulnerability to somewhere else. It will usually always occur at the point where the system has to filter out / authenticate or where there is a performance bottleneck.
There are ways to lessen the problem using sophiscated load balancing technology with algos idenitifying DOS, tunnelling, routing but theses usually only to lessen the issue rather than to prevent the problem completely.
Internet terrorists are smart. If you step it up, so will they and they will always catch up.

The world may never know....!
But in all seriousness, I wouldn't blame any of the game companies. Id blame the people who where actually doing the crime.
