Based on the Dev's therapist couch chat this afternoon it seems as though those "game changing legendary items" are going to be a long time coming.
Well however long a season lasts, new PTR and then implementation.
They don't want to fix the skills that are under-used or lacking in power by straight up buffing their numbers, because those skills are great for the newly minted 70 character who is in Rares. Once the player acquires (or "Kadalas") those awesome, game changing legendary items (which desperately lack variety) the player will start using the skills that the legendary and set items synergizes with. To help out those under-used/power lacking skills, they'd rather introduce new legendary items.
Seems good to me.
Wait - isn't that sorta what they promised with Loot 2.0 and RoS as an Expansion? Game changing legendary items - power and excitement behind every new lego!
So as I understand it what they have done is make a new game called Reaper of Souls (not a D3x2), spent the past few months tweaking the foundation of their new game (drop rates, class balance, etc), port it to consoles and introduce a system that can mathematically tell them (GRifts) what they need to change and then they will change it.........by introducing new game changing legendary items.
Isn't this the same road we went down with a game called Diablo 3?
You have to keep context. Approx just 6 months ago, Legendary items did NOTHING but offer higher ranges. They essentially dumped the D3V character building philosophy and entered into a whole new approach. They learned, they took an avalanche of feedback (positive and negative) and now they wish to expand on it.
So is it the "same thing they promised with 2.0"? Yes. They are expanding on exactly what 2.0 gave us.
Why do you present this as if it's bad, I wonder? Is it because the philosophy was half-assed with 2.0, in terms of the amount of Legs that did not live up to the billing?
I sense trust issues, and your worry is warranted considering the long and twisted path D3 has taken. But...it is on a path. They could just leave this shit to rot like Blizzard North did with D2.
I'll be happy with 2.1 so long as I don't get a week or two into it and realize there's a significant amount of useless Legs remaining.
I'm not really sure what the complaint is? Unless it's a simple case of you want more? They DID introduce new 'game changing' legendaries, lots of them. It just boils down to which ones are the most powerful, and whether you'd call them game changing or not. And if you're in the latter camp, then I have bad news to tell you; It's going to be more of the same. The new legendary affixe's they'll put on old plain legendaries, as well as new ones, will synergize with skills, such as the new meteor staff, or compliment them, such as Kridershot, or just add something to your character, such as say Firewalkers.
I'm starting to think people confused 'game changing' with 'game breaking'. Just because an item doesn't make your skill a one shot death AOE doesn't mean it's not game changing in some way.
Also, you're naive if you think every single legendary will be game changing - there's hundreds of them. Eventually they'll nail down something for every plain legs, but just like there's varying tiers of rarity in the legendaries, there has to be varying power with that.
And lastly - yes, we've been down this road, because we are STILL going down this road. The process of fixing old plain legendaries, as well as adding new ones will be ongoing. You might as well create this thread every time a new patch comes out.
Pretty much, They missed a huge opportunity with the legendary gems. They refuse to put in any real game changers instead opting for a very 'dudebro' approach of buff this damage, and make this do more damage, and here's more damage for everyone. It's so sickening too. I want some of these underused skills to be at least on par with the ones that have such great synergies with sets, but they're refusing to do a damn thing about it. It's going to take months for them to properly add in the new legendaries, and balance them out. Might even take years. I just hope they realize they haven't really helped anything at all but instead just secluded many more builds into the ones the sets now synergize with. It's so pathetic that only 1-2 sets/skill combos per class can run T6. Where's the variety?
