I didn't include 2.0 because ROS was an expansion and well to get the full benefit out of this patch you obviously had to buy the expansion which IMHO detracts from the attractiveness of the patch its self. furthermore I am more focusing on patches not expansions etc because ofc with how much ROS cost to buy it BETTER be better than most patches.
so with that being said discuss, what was your favorite patch and moment of this game so far.
I am really hyped about this upcoming patch after playing on the PTR there has been a lot of well thought out changes for the health of this game that are being introduced and the objective of trying to make all classes usefull and powerful is a step in the right direction. Not to mention buffing 2H's across the board and introduction of even more ways to play between seasons and GRIFTS I think this could honestly be my favorite patch.
ooo man yeah I remember this now! and the just pure insanity of packs that would anhilate you and then reset no matter how much health was left, but yet the timer would still count down.
I didn't play 2.1 on PTR, but i think this is shaping to be the best patch, yet. They are adding ladders and greater rifts, but i'm more pleased that they are working to fix some gameplay issues, like dex being terrible for defence, 2 handed weapons being horrible and adding some legendary affixes to glorified rares... or at least make them a 5/2 to be a bit more appealing and giving all weapons a "free" socket.
Sure, we still have other issues like boring gems... but seeing how things are shaping up, feedback is being used and the game is going in a good direction.
Best patch was 1.4 when they reforge all legendaries to give them a purpose. This patch seems really good thought, but i still keep 1.4 as best patch so far.
You can only evaluate a patch in hindsight. 2.1 isn't finished at all, we have no idea what it will bring... it sure has the potential to be the "best patch" but we don't know yet. Of course, everything is always subjective; what means "best"? For me personally, the game was in its best state just after RoS release. I did not like the recent patches 2.0.5 and 2.0.6; the increased legendary drop rate made sets too easy to be acquired and for many classes non-set builds have been pushed to "niche" builds. You will barely see anyone without an Akkhan set. I kind of hope that without Rift it Forward in 2.1 this will be reduced and there will be more long-term goals than just "get the Wand of Woh". Those really rare items are the only goals any players with 100+ hours on their main class have. So... for me, RoS vanilla was best. Probably followed by 1.0.7, the crafting recipes added a nice new direction to the game and introduced BoA - which in the end, together with the AH removal, saved the game.
As Bagstone said, 1.0.7 was the best patch for me... It really "patched" a lot of "holes" in the game and established the basics for RoS. Now, 2.1 sounds really promising and it is probably going to "patch" a couple "holes" the game currently has. Wizards being one of the many fixes coming with the patch, I'm really looking forward to it, as it has the potential to be the best patch since launch!
bagstone I tend to disagree.. while in theory yes you are correct in fact they could completely obliterate the patch as it stands and we wont see anything on the PTR at all.... so tuche to that.. however...
I still think we will only see an improvement to what is on PTR, if that is positive thinking than so be it, but I still think that over all what is being tested is a positive change to the game and for the results of this poll I am including only what is known to be on PTR for patch 2.1 which we can clearly see in patch notes...
We actually know what it will bring, it will bring Gems, Seasons, Grifts, Season only legendaries.. they won't make a 180° on these 4 key aspects of the patch. The details like balancing etc. we don't know yet but the important stuff we know already.
So in terms of content patch 2.1 beats all previous patches by a large margin, no questions asked.
We know what it brings, but it's too early to tell if those things will improve the game for me personally.
Seasons: I'm not interested. If they introduce some absolutely awesome, jaw-dropping season-only legendaries 2.1 might be a fail for me because I might feel forced to play a game mode I don't like. If season-only legendaries stay as they are now on PTR, I'm fine.
Greater Rifts: Looking great, but how do they feel if you run them for the 100th time on life? Will it be balanced to be great for people who are stuck on GR30, but also add excitement for those that get to GR70 regularly? Will they make every other aspect of the game look boring and everyone feels compelled to run GR only? Really, right now the reward structure for GRs is off, Blizzard acknowledged that. I'm confident they'll get it right but again - too early to tell.
Gems: Absolutely awesome, no doubt. But how does it feel a few months later; sockets in jewelry so necessary that you discard of lots of jewelry, just like you threw away non-socket weapons before we knew of Ramaladni's Gift? Will some of the "infinitely upgradeable gems" break the game and make seasons/leaderboards feel pointless? I see lots of red flags in there if they don't cap all gems, to be honest.
Balancing: Many people are excited about the upcoming wizard changes that were datamined yesterday. I'm somewhat excited as well, but not completely convinced. We might be balanced in terms of damage, but wizards have no truly game-changing set bonuses (like all other classes, just think of Marauder, Akkhan, or EQ set). Our sets are just a damage buff that does not enable new builds, but rather restricts the way we gear/spec. More on that in the wizard forums. I'm deeply concerned that the wizard is moving to a direction that makes me switch my main class in 2.1.
The announced features of 2.1 are the biggest in quantity of any patch (besides 2.0.1/RoS) of course. There's a huge chance that they'll improve the game. But for me personally, as I'm not interested in seasons, leaderboards, and all this e-peen crap as well as being forced to restart my character from time to time, there's also a chance that this patch turns the game into a direction I personally dislike.
Therefore, it is too early to tell if 2.1 is the best patch ever.
Much like bagstone said, i will be sceptical untill i see the patch being released. It can make or break it to me, as many of the extra things that they are adding arent too important to me, rather i want to see them make frost and lightning function again for wizards as i love thoose spells and, quite frankly dislike most of the arcane and fire ones or i dont have the gear to use em well enough.
All in all, hoping that blizzards gets into buffing arcane orb and meteor, and remaining sceptical at the channelled abilities changes.
I love seasons , it is the only thing keeping D2 alive this long and it is the only thing that makes players go back to D2 after this many years.
Just gather some friends and go kick some ass , shame though that D3 doesn't have that thrill in hardcore like D2 , where first party to go into hell needs to really work carefully and in Sync to survive and players dying left and right , in D3 you can simply play on normal and go all the way to level 70 and stay on normal until it is safe which makes HC that much less exciting.
Other than that , 2.1 is shaping up really great and seasons is one of the main attractions but there is also grifts for some challenge , legendary gems , new socketing item , the 2handed buff looks good , I hope it works and I wanna see some serious monk changes and more build changing legendaries to allow more diversity in builds at higher level instead of only one set of items.

Well said.
For me, without exception, the monster density patch (1.0.7?) was the best patch with 2.0/RoS falling a distant second.
I don't hold tons of hope for 2.1 because, like you, I have zero, or less than zero, interest in seasons.

Never before has SO MUCH USER FEEEDBACK been accepted and translated into the game by Blizzard. It's pretty amazing.

I think they also reduced monster damage by half somewhere there as well, which as a big plus.
