Keeping the best equipment is not an option, because you get tired of playing the same build all the time. Changing the build requires changing some items, or most of the gear, so you don't keep "best equip". Playing the same build over and over again, with the same character, for hundreds of hours is nearing insanity for me.
I hear you but analogy describes the depair of not even having found alot of the "best equip". For example, I've I never found a WoW or SoH or ..... I also love to expirment but can't if i've never found the gear.

Still 0 SoH, WoW and TF found on all my characters (only TF I have was given to me), but hey it's all about luck, RNG and having fun. Still having fun without those items.
@stormie - they are changing things fast and that is the thing I like. Keeping up with some changes will be difficult
In case you stop having fun without those items, I've added a guide to contentment which you may refer to
1. Show humility.
Be grateful for any luck that you have been blessed with. Don't boast, show off or make others feel bad for being who they are or for having what they have. If you are a man of heart and courage, it matter not whether you wield a "broken club" or a"thunder fury"
2. Recognize enough.
Be grateful for what you have. Appreciate you are able to play the game on a nice PC using a nice mouse whilst sitting in a nice home. When you come across a bug, think how lucky you are to come across such a unique feature. It should be a joyful moment.
3. Simple life.
Keep things simple. Don't complicate your life and ask too much of yourself. Be happy with the basics. When presented with a new item which brings a new build possibility, go to the armourer and salvage it. See it as flushing away a source of dilemas, procrastination, stress, greed and envy.
4. Move forward
Let go of any past regrets. Look forward to the next rift and forget about that time you salvaged a RORG because you thought it was useless. Move on and enjoy.
5. Make room for peace
Isolate yourself from the noise and toxicity the world exposes us to. Play solo, turn off chat and don't read any internet forums.
I know this is now an old thread, but I only just got an opportunity to read some of the comments since my last post.
I think that some people are really missing the point entirely. I understand that you can reroll your socket back to some other stat IF YOU HAD ORIGINALLY REROLLED INTO A SOCKET, i think that is quite obvious, but what IF I ALREADY HAD A SOCKET AND REROLLED ANOTHER STAT? HOW WILL I USE RG NOW?
It is not about getting having to grind for new content, this is old content that they are making redundant by replacing with the same content? That doesnt make sense to me because I already have that weapon but now am effectively being punished for having received a weapon with a natural socket. If you are still coming in here arguing about how I might as well ask blizzard to give me everything I want, you are clearly not understanding my argument.
Bottomline is that Blizzard has implemented an item that all things being equal, is not able to enjoyed by all weapons in the game pre 2.1, which is an unfair advantage for people that are able to use it on prepatch weapons.
