The GAH is what "ruined" the game, because people went gold hunting and selling items to progress rather than finding anything for themselves. The real-money side has been a purely ideological issue that few actually playing the game ever gave a damn about. Some people surely "ruined" the game by buying their way out of upgrades, but I can't recall even seeing one person actually complain about that, whereas tons of people complained about the other situation I described. There's a reason that we're looking at a total AH shutdown, not just the RMAH side.
I can't help but feel like I played the game, didn't use the RMAH at all, enjoyed some aspects, disliked other aspects, and every argument people gave as to why the RMAH was "Ok" was more valid then yours.
There were many other factors that hurt diablo, but the RMAH was not one of them, it existed and I ignored it and it didn't impede on my game play by any stretch. Infact neither AH was the issue. The issue was that you could play for hours on end, and gain no progress. That you could play for hours on end and instead of getting some sort of reward, you'd actually go backwards, ending with a repair bill, and nothing to show for it. I remember on release I would get weapons that were worse then some of the weapons I had found in hell mode.
Now don't suddenly jump to the conclusion I liked the RMAH's existance, because I didn't. I however don't beleive it negatively effected diablo as much as some other factors, and with the removal of it, and the changes with 'loot 2.0' I think keeping the gold AH would have been a wise idea, since it would be a place to expand on different builds, but wouldnt by any stretch be needed since you'd have no issues getting your own gear. But hay, as everyone from d2 says: "I would spend hours and hours in trade channels looking for the best trade! The AH ruined that and made me have to play the game, rather then spam for 2 hours!"
Shaggy, if you go through with voting with your wallet then I applaud you. Don't let others tell you it doesn't matter, it does. I'll put on my tinfoil hat and state the obvious of all these extra pre order goodies coming. First wings now free cards and I'm sure I'm missing a thing or two. They didn't provide so many free goodies for vanilla launch bc they didn't have to. I bet pre order sales for RoS is not even close to that of launch. Do what you think is right.

I'd agree with you if most of the perks weren't for other games that are free to play. It seems more like they're trying to get interest up in those games than appeal to people seeking more value out of the expansion cost. These games also weren't available for the initial D3 launch either, which is as much of a reason why the launch didn't have pre-order incentives.

Yeah, but at the end of the day I'd rather not turn into the OP - someone who didn't buy the game but is still ranting and raving about <feature that caused him not to buy the game> two years later. This community needs BETTER than that. That kind of sociopathic obsession is something I wish would die out. Someone didn't buy the game? Great. Let it go and move on. The people who purchased the game deserve to be able to enjoy it without being permanently defending their fansites from trolls.
I don't want to be that jerkoff who continues to hang around the forums telling everyone else who is enjoying the game how "wrong" they are for liking something I don't like (and truth be told, I really only am at odds with the philosophy of BoA, and not really with the game). But I "fought" for well over a year against the people who hated the game but wouldn't give it a rest and I refuse to let myself become one of them. I'll continue to express my opinions about things, but I'm not going to be that guy who doesn't know how to be anything but pessimistic.
I guess it all really depends on how you view voting g with your wallet. Their are extremes, such as never supporting Nike because of how they treat their workers (sweat shops).
Others might view it as going to your local store, seeing a price increase and not purchasing it because of the price increase. But they might buy it again if it goes on sale.
I think, in case of D3, voting with your wallet would be NOT to pre order it, or but it 1st week of launch. You might wait a couple of weeks or a month, to make the purchase. In this case, you would be voting by not adding to their launch sales. And I'm sure many many people will wait, so when Blizz sees sales are not even close to vanilla, they will notice that
TL;DR of this thread: OP didn't like choices made regarding RMAH, but didn't own the game to experience the loot system. Everyone else on the thread knows the real deal.
your bank account says that you didnt play this game for FUN, you played to make money. Thats not what games are there for.
Having fun and making money aren't mutually-exclusive. I make money at my job and I have fun every night.
Only an idiot would try to propose that you cannot have fun and make money at the same time. It's clearly a lapse in logic to insinuate otherwise.
you are right, i also like my job but that's not the point i wanted to make. What i meant is that games are there to entertain us not to be a second "job"
but everyone has theyr own opinion, that is mine
In my honest opinion, D3 suffered from what I like to call "Greed", it was the first time I have seen Blizzard do this..ever, The game was so hyped up that they brought in a RTS director (Wilson) to come in and make the biggest ARPG in years, on his first go at an ARPG, so naturally he would do his best, but lets face it, it lost its Umph after the skeleton king, There were too many cut scenes, too many story arc issues, and horrible dialogue throughout...The one part that erked me the most was when Izual resurfaced and Tyrael doesn't say a god damn word...Ugh.
The new game director seems to know what he is doing so far, I'm really hoping the story and dialogue are much improved in the expansion.

There I just saved a new reader a ton of time.
If anything, RMAH is the only positive thing about D3.
Someday soon, I truly hope we can stop beating this horse once and for all.
I see the line in the sand. Time to find out who I am. Looking back to see where I stand. Evolution.
