I am currently only playing ptr so i cant say anything about lvl 70 content. But currently at lvl 60. I feel the drop rate is too low. Much too low.
I have been doing some extensive testing the last days.
I have played on the same Character, Reset the quests and gone from start to stop 4 and a half time (yeah yeah. not that extensive :p) I have killed EVERY mob available. Opened every chest, broke every barrel and looted every available source of loot. Ive entered every dungeon, cave and nook and cranny. All tests have been done on torment 1 with a "decent" char. (mp5-6 ish on live) I one shot white mobs and spend about 10 sec per elite pack
However, the results i got is not pleasing. About 1 legendary per act. And seing how many mobs killed and chests and loot sources looted. 1 legendary per act for all that work. Not worth it at all. Its too low
Yesterday i even had a 2 with 15 min... and now i have not had a drop in 2 hours. so it seems reasonable. blizz said 1 legen/2 hours is what they were aiming for.
There's defiantly times when I feel it's slightly too low, but again because I'm on PTR I can't speak for bounties / rifts / gambling. But most of the time one every 45 minutes - an hour is alright, especially when later down the road after launch I'll get better and better gear and be able to farm even faster on higher torments.
In spite of the changes they have made, I'm not sure that clearing an entire act and exploring every nook and cranny is the ideal way to get drops. I've found the drop rate on the 2.0 PTR to be really fulfilling. I am averaging at least one legendary per hour. I've played both Normal and Torment 1 and found both rewarding. I've found plenty of sidegrades that have encouraged me to try different builds or to gear swap (Bracers that spawn an elite when you touch a shrine).
But I don't farm like you. I just kill as quickly as possible on a preset farming route and then remake. Perhaps the drop rates feel worse if you are spending too much time running from chest to body to nook and cranny.
It's in a really good place to me. Rare enough that I get excited when I see one, but not too rare that I feel playing the game is a hopeless endeavor. Also only playing on Expert/Master, so considering that Torment will only improve the rate I acquire legendary items, I don't see any need for a drop rate increase.
I only have the PTR so I cant speak about the ros features but I think its perfect at the moment. I run T4 to T5 depending on what character and I usually get a legendary every 30mins to 1 hour.
I feel the drop rates are ok right now on PTR. Before the patch i played the game knowing that i will never get a single legendary and i got tired and frustrated quite fast; now i feel like an orange will drop always drop and the next one i'll get is behind the corner, thank to the fact that there is an algorhtim that will increase the chance to get a legendary item the longer you don't drop one. Would i like the drop rate to be a bit higher? Like 5 or 10%? Yeah, but like this is fine for my taste and i don't have access to RoS yet, so i'm missing Bounties, Rift and Gambling to have more chances to get Oranges.
Legendaries shouldn't be dropping from the sky. it should be a very very rare drop, and in the 2 hours of playting on the ptr i have already had 2 drop for me, which honestly for a legendary is to high a drop rate. And to the OP, 1 legendary an act is way to high, it seems like its not worth it but thats cause u werent farming efficiently, u were wasting time chasing down every mob and breakable object, if that time were spent kiiling mobs, restarting game, killing mobs, your drop rate would of been higher.
I'd say about right yeah. I mean I've gone hours of farming on PTR without one, then had a bunch in 10 mins, but the average seems just right.
Leveling it's a bit higher seem to be about one every act boss, with usually one somewhere in the middle, which is IMO perfect, makes killing the boss extra special when you get a real REWARD for doing it and makes the act transition easier.
On average though, at 60 I think Blizz's stated 1 per 2hrs is about what I'm getting and I'd say that's pretty spot on. Mostly because it's always a nice upgrade and that's sorta the point of the game, right?
It is much too low if it is 1 per hour. If we just have 500 legendary, that's 500 hours. If you just pay 4 hours a day every day and item don't repeat, then you need 4 months to collect it. Then you have Str, Intel and Dex version.
Yesterday and a few hours of today, I've gotten 13 or so legendaries. This is at 60 though, not on the ptr or anything. Don't know if I'm just lucky at getting drops, but unlucky on the rolls since 90% of them are terrible.
"Terrible" at level 60 means something very different than "terrible" at level 70 thanks to the auction house, and legacy loot with 6 primary affixes.
I played the PTR with my wizard char which had less than mediocre gear, and I have upgraded every slot with gear I found in the PTR except my amulet, ring, gloves, and source.
I'm getting about the same droprates as everyone else in this thread but I haven't found another upgrade in about a week. I'm sitting at 160k dps/500k ehp
I don't have enough experience to see what the "bad luck" variance is like. To me, that's the make-or-break issue. Even if you're averaging one per hour, if the game allows you to go 3, 4, or 5 hours without one then it gets back to the same, general, issue. There is a system that is supposed to kick in and not let you go "too long" without a legendary/set drop. Frankly, I'd like to know exactly what that threshold is because it may be more important than the actual average.
One per hour is great, especially if it pans out. That seems to be, generally, where people need to feel motivated that the next big drop is right around the corner in the BoA world. But people, psychologically, remember the bad streaks much more than the good streaks - I'm a card dealer in a casino, I have daily, firsthand, experience with this. Even if a player is up $500, if the dealer pulls 21 three or four times in a row you can be guaranteed they are not going to be happy - because no matter where you stand going on a lengthy losing streak is NOT REMOTELY FUN.
Cleared act 3 on Torement 1 yesterday on ptr. Found 2 legendaries in the first 15 minutes and then nothing. Maybe i should start quitting games if they drop two legendaries in less than 30 minutes?
The droprate overall seems fine. In ROS you can also buy those unidentified weapons / armors so that can potentially increase the legendary per hour ratio.
