I'll preface this by saying I don't plan on buying or selling...and I will be dancing on the AH's graves. But it is an interesting thought, what will the market do?
Scenario 1) Gold sellers, in particular the asian gold farmers realize they need to dump their stock while they can, gold prices plummet as the market is flooded.
Scenario 2) Gold buyers realize they need more gold for RoS and start panic buying, therefore depleting supply, prices go up.
Only retards pay real money for virtual goods. But because most of the people are retards...
Only retards call others retards because of what they choose to do with THEIR money. If spending the money on virtual goods makes a person happy, they're not a retard for spending it.
Have only sold on RMAH and have barely played vanilla. But grow up. Analyze yourself a little more closely before you start calling others retards.
As for the thread, I think gold is just going to increase in price. People will buy regardless of price because its their last chance. Cannnnoooott wait for RMAH and AH to shut down though, as soon as I heard they were being taken down is when I logged back in again.

If it drops to a certain point I bet the rest hold onto their gold to sell post-AH through third party sites. Gems still look like they can sink gold pretty nicely.

And yet you yourself pay for "virtual goods" all the time. Ever pay to see a movie or a concert? Was there anything tangible left for you that you got to take home at the end of the evening? Do you pay for cable TV or internet access? Have you paid for a membership tp a health club so you could sweat off the calories from the chocolate cake you paid for and ate the night before?
Games by their nature fall under the category of entertainment. If it increases a person's entertainment to buy gold, or a legendary weapon, or whatever, who are you to judge?
Is there a bluepost regarding gold in RoS? Will it really be BoA in RoS? That'd be the comeback of gems as currency... and I kind of can't believe Blizzard would do that, as they were never too keen on that development in D2.
I know that gold is BoA right now, I'm in beta, too. Just wondering if this is only a beta limitation (for whatever reason) or they'll keep it like that on release.
Gems are BoA? Are you sure? I have to admit that I never checked. Will do later tonight.
Gold price will only go up, unless there comes a reason to sell it / not have much gold on hand.
as for gems everything under marquise is free trade. but its kinda pointless to trade or even pick up lower tier gems unless its your first character.
Pretty much the only trade able commodity in RoS will be Dyes (that are easy to farm/spawn anyway).
well blizzard have pretty much succeeded in shutting down most 3rd party transaction / advantages.
it is still possible to "transfer" gold at a very bad ratio by buying items of vendors dropping em and letting another player sell em. but i don't think its worth it for gold sellers or any one to do this.

The question asked was whether gold will raise or drop in price as we get closer to RoS' release, not if buying gold is correct, legit or whatever. Further off-topic posts will be dealt with accordingly. Thank you.
It's at an all time high right now, but I fully expect the price to drop before the RMAH closes. I have €10.50 on my Battle.net balance and I'm just waiting to pull the trigger on some gold.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.
It may go up due to the elitists (not elite, there is a difference). Those are the people who feel insanely entitled to BiS items that they will throw millions, if not billions at the mystic trying to get perfect rolls.
Im really surprised at how high some items are still selling for. I sold some of the gear I downgraded to months ago recently and they sold within a few days. You woulndt think people would be spending that much gold on stuff that will be useless in one month.
Mr.Smith has been working late every night this week and when the weekend comes his friends have started farming mp10,
he does not wanna feel like a burden so he buys a item to up his dps a bit so he can feel like he acctually do somthing to help his group/friends out
and by that he enjoy the game more togheter with them.
You are way to narrowminded mr.i have not payed for a movie in 10 years.. so that´s LEGIT? xD

Only explanation would be that there are tons of people who have no clue about the expansion.. maybe don't know it is even coming ?
I think value will at first go down but maybe at the very end it will raise a lot.. people buying stuff that they think "maybe I need this some day" etc.. Though it might go down even more if everyone wakes up and starts selling loads.

Prices will stay the same until the last 2 weeks then SKY ROCKET!....on HC anyways.

Yep, same here. Sold a bunch of Radiant Star gems for 18-22m and can't really figure out why, who would even buy them when RoS and an infinite stream of Marquise gems are just around the corner. Similarly, many items are more expensive than ever (I accidentally salvaged my LoH trifecta ring for CMWW, wanted to buy a new one and couldn't find a single decent affordable ring). In general it seems like people go crazy about trading - in all directions.
Gold prices are on an all-time high as well, and I don't see any reason why they should ever go down as gold is really the only thing that carries over and does not become completely obsolete. But why items/gems and all that goes up... no idea. I might just sell all my gear, but I'm too lazy (don't have any super expensive items anyways)

I expect that only around 5% of the actually gaming community check forums about all this sort of stuff and to them there just still playing the game. While it seems like a stupid thing to be buying stuff at this point, that's just because we're informed about what's happening while the majority arn't.

It's amazing (and sad) the amount of self delusion pirates can generate to convince themselves they aren't petty thieves. Just so you know, it convinces no one.

Found this post back from December which only states that it's "subject to change":http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/10787918933#10
