Anyone else considering going with a clean slate in RoS?
I've been wrestling with the idea of selling and / or melting down all of my items and literally starting again with nothing except maybe cash, crafting items and gems...and I haven't abandoned the idea of even dumping the crafting items and gems.
That would wash most of the taint of the AHs away...I say most, because I will be keeping my gold no matter what else I decide.
What exactly do you mean by "clean slate"? The only thing that really transfers over from D3V to RoS is paragon XP; if you want to reset that, you'd have to delete all your characters before patch 2.01 hits.
Money - yeah, if you have ~10-20m you can upgrade all crafting stations instantly and you'll be able to reforge your gear on 70 a bit quicker. But billions of gold (now that vendor items aren't salvageable anymore) don't bring any huge advantage as it stands right now.
Crafting items and gems? Useless as soon as you hit 70 anyways ;-)
All you're doing with a "clean slate" is actually making it harder for yourself to access all the "great" RoS content. RoS pre-70 is not that interesting at all, it's kinda like PTR; you really want to hit 70 asap to start with bounties. Deleting all items (or even characters) will just make it more difficult to get there; if you keep some items you will start on a clean slate anyways, as a couple of hours into RoS you'll throw away the majority of 60 loot.
It *sounds* like a very nice idea, and in the old days of D2 I would've probably done this. Or in another game. But seeing that so much of the new content is exclusive to level 70, and paragon will be account-wide, so every pre-RoS character really matters (and it's the only thing that matters!), I myself will not do this. But I wish you all the best if you decide to go for it ;-) If it's really just about getting rid of the AH taint - really, just keep some basic equipment that let's you level up fast and you'll get new loot quicker in RoS, and very soon all your AH gear will be gone.
I'm just going to jump in and level a Crusader to 70 without hand-me-downs.
It's not currantly possible to start with a totally clean slate as you can't undo the gold spend on stash and artisan upgrades which are quite a big gold sinks in the beginning, as I've been reminded playing HC.
I will definitely be deleting my characters but I'm not sure what I will do about my resources just yet.
Currently I am leaning toward keeping my gold and my crafting mats, since on the PTR when playing new characters it was handy to have the buffer without feeling particularly game-breaking.
Gems I will likely get rid of because they are totally game-breaking at low levels and totally useless at high levels because I don't have especially good ones.
