Me: "Hey are you selling the collector's edition of the expansion for Diablo 3, Reaper of Souls?"
Gamestop: "Let me check for you (clicking noises, some kid crying in the background about being good enough to deserve an Xbox One) yes sir, we are selling it."
Me: "Awesome! Since you are a brick & mortar location, will you be having a midnight release?"
Gamestop: (laughs) "Its not that big of a game, so probably no...."
as funny as you may think it be, it's because PC gaming is going the way of the dinosaur and those of us who are left buy everything digitally. I can guarantee you the console version of RoS will have a midnight release while the pc version won't even be mentioned.
P.S. I work at gamestop, if that aids my credibility at all
Considering i saw 2 PC Collector edition of D3 still sitting at my local gamespot last week, i dont think its one of their prime seller lol. Facture in the rep the game had from how poor vanilla was.... i dont think they are blowing pre order records. If they had enough preorder you bet they would have one. I personally didnt pre order, i got burned hard with D3 and ME3 in recent times. Ill believe the promises when i see them from now on.

And that just proves that the world is full of retards. I would rather shoot my head off with a shotgun than playing simplified console games..
I still trust that real gamers beat lazy "party gamers" in the end.
Fixed the quote up for you.
The way that you voice your opinion just proves that the PC gaming community is as bad as console gamers think it is, thank you for that!

As others have said the PC imo is far from going the way of the dinosaur in fact quite the opposite, the majority of people I know whom pre-ordered the 360 didn't even bother with the current-gen consoles which just released because over the years consoles have become increasingly pointless and I expect this to be the last generation of console.
The previous point of a console was the fact PCs didn't used to be so simple, were very expensive and had to be frequently upgraded and all of these issues are not the case these days. Ironically consoles have gone in the opposite direction from a relatively cheap plug n play machine to a quite expensive, constantly updating, installation-requiring machine. There basically a restricted PC that bring no benefit to weigh out the negatives.
This is the last era of a gaming console as we know it. It will definitely be hugely different next time. We saw hints of it from MS with the Xbox One but they backed off because we aren't ready for it yet. I suspect a sort of merging between PC's and consoles and a big focus on joining mobile gaming with the living room through tablets/phones. How the internet is shaped in the next 7 years will play a significant role.

Well the next big thing I predict is streamed graphics, in which you pay a monthly service likely joint with your internet, tv etc. provider for a server to render your game for you and stream it to your screen. Which means all you will have is your peripherals (screen, speakers, controls etc.), this also means you would be able to run the most graphically available games at capped FPS on a handheld device which would be pretty awesome. The only thing preventing it atm is bandwidth issues, but we've seen the staggering progression that's been made in technology over the last decade and the rate in which technology improves will only get faster so I expect these issues to be resolved over the next decade.
Streamed graphics is a background technicality, the bigger picture you have to mention here is "Cloud Gaming". OnLive failed, but it didn't fail because it's a bad concept, it just failed because the infrastructure isn't ready for it. Some other company will rip off the idea and make billions with it. Just like the iPhone: it's almost the same as the IBM Simon phone from 1992, but as we all know there was no real Internet around at the time, and technology wasn't just advanced enough. Once the Internet infrastructure is better - and they are really pushing it at the moment - Cloud Gaming will be the next big thing. It's awesome for gamers because it makes it less hardware-dependent, and it's awesome for companies because it allows for new business models (you pay as much as you play for a game). You can try Diablo for 20 hours with full features and only pay if you continue. I want this sooo much - I hate that you have to pay 60 bucks for a triple A game just based on screenshots and biased (bought) reviews, and if it sucks you're screwed, even if you uninstall after 10 minutes you don't get any money back.
However, the other important aspect that is mentioned here is hardware. And we're not just talking about the parts inside a PC; to be honest, those have become super simple anyways (building a PC in the 90s was actually far more difficult, today you only buy ~5 pieces and assembling takes less than an hour). But one factor are the peripherals, especially the controls and input devices. PC games these days still rely on mouse and keyboard only, while consoles have gone beyond game pads ever since the Wii came out, and they're always extending the range of new input devices. Just today I read an article about the new Oculus Rift which is supposed to be an amazing experience. Of course, it'll take 5-10 years until it's ready for average consumers, but we're certainly moving into an era with more complex input AND output devices. The question is if computers will adapt to these devices, if they will even lead the technological invention, or if they will stay exclusive to consoles. I don't think that the majority of gamers in 10 years still wants to use keyboard and mouse, so if this doesn't change, consoles will continue to thrive. Of course there are always setbacks in development, like the XBox One, but to deduct from that that the majority of people is moving back to PC is just plain wrong (I would welcome this, but market research just tells a completely different story).
Oh, and sorry for offtopic, Polyrayne. I hope a +1 on your story makes up for it ;-)
For the life of me bagstone... I don't understand why people like you bitch and moan about $60 for a video game. A Minimum wage worker in the United States can earn that in less than 9 hours (even faster if we calculate the negative income tax rates (welfare + EBT + credits)).
Its funny how people still complain about the price of video games, price went down from what it was in the 90s..... you know unlike everything else? Video game stayed at the same price for decades? Unlike everything else in the world?
Consoles arent done, it was said last gen and the Xbox one and PS4 are currently selling faster than their previous versions. People always speculate that the next thing will die, pc, console, what ever. When ever its streaming its game or not, a closed box from a company is still a console.
I do not have an issue with 60 bucks for a game, I think it's an absolutely fair price if a game is good and enjoyable. My point was that Cloud Gaming could allow for a fairer pricing scheme for both sides. If you play a game for 10 years (and 1000+ hours), I think $60 is not a fair price - from the developer's perspective! (I.e., I would pay more, which is one of the reasons why I'll definitely a CE of RoS)

yea i love diablo 3 spent 2000+ hours... i ll buy 1 C.E. for sure.. Only problem is that they migh not offer midnite release
I got it from Amazon. I know a few folks reported they got the game early (the day before release) and were able to play at midnight. If not and I'm at the mercy of UPS to deliver the game the day of, oh well.
It'll let me sit back and watch everyone else not be able to log in because of Error 30whatevers - BAM!

I hope they offer the same as for D3V - you buy a digital key, add the CE key later on to your account, and get the normal key back...
