as a veteran of D1, D2, and D3 .... will d3's xpac do what it did for d2 when d2's LoD came out?.... or is this a lost cause?... for those that are quick to judge...check my posts from d3 closed beta days, if you had access... believe you me i am a real fan. I am apart of a culture that made this game what it is today. which sadly is a dying if not dead breed.
From what I've seen, I can definitely say I am very excited. This is about the same level of excitement I got when details of LoD came out, and if impressions can be trusted, then I do believe RoS will be D3's LoD.
However, it will most certainly not be the peak of D3. I think RoS will make a lot of mistakes. But just as D2 had its 1.10, I think D3 will also have that one defining patch that will make it truly shine.
I played D1 and D2, too (how can you be a "veteran of D3"?). I have no idea what you're talking about. Not everyone who played D1+D2 hates D3. In fact, some elements of D3 are closer to D1 than to D2, and many of the people who call themselves "veterans" seem to have never really played D1 (just installed it, did a brief playthrough, and were done with it).
D3:RoS will not bring back D2:LoD. If you want a comparison, I feel that it'll rather be like D1:Hellfire though that might be a bit far-fetched. RoS has some novel aspects that do not resemble anything we have seen in the previous Diablo games (all the BoA materials and items, bounties, rifts, cache rewards). No one can estimate the long-term "fun" of RoS - but short-term, it's absolutely addictive. I personally feel that group play is much more fun than playing on your own, and since you don't even need to be with the other players to get the MF bonus and bounty rewards, even public games could be fine. Sure, some people might curse everyone who's slower in clearing bounties or even just camping in town, but imho you get extra MF and XP for free. Itemization is definitely much better than in D3V thank to the primary and secondary affixes; I don't have any 70 legendaries yet to make any endgame claims, but early Torment levels look like fun.
I'm not sure where T6 endgame will take us. For now it seems like you need some tactical gameplay to survive and it takes time to kill anything; at a certain point simple "hack'n'slay and facetank" doesn't work anymore, at least not for every class (wizard here). But even that might change as many defensive (shield-generating) spells are bugged.

As a "veteran" then you surely know that some of the aspects that gave D2 massive longevity (particularly PvP and ladders) had nothing to do with LoD. Right? In terms of PvP, D3 will never have that until Blizzard realizes that just giving a bare-bones PvP system like D2 had is exactly what should be done with D3. Team Deathmatch, matchmaking systems, etc. just aren't going to come into fruition in a game that's NOT SUPPOSED TO BE AN ESPORT.
Ladders, which are another one of those systems that people tout as giving longevity to D2, were not added until 3+ years AFTER launch, but we do know Blizzard is experimenting with ladder play for D3. If they'd just give a fair (ie: no BiS ladder-only items) ladder system and a no-frills PvP system, then move on to other things, I think the game would be a lot better in the short and long term. Sometimes less *IS* more, and particularly with PvP I think that's the case. Just take brawling (I like the anti-griefing aspect) and make the map significantly bigger... then do something to make PvP something more interesting than "who gets one-shotted first" and you have something that probably will be enjoyable for most.
For me, on a very personal level, what will doom RoS is BoA coupled with the overreaching smart drops. I find the PTR less fun than live right now despite awesome changes (adventure mode, clans, skill re-balancing, item revamps, etc.). The way BoA and smart drops work, I feel like I'm up shit's creek with a turd for a paddle and RNG is bearing down on me and I simply don't like it. For me, unless they fix that, I'm playing a glorified online-only single-player game... and that's NOT what I signed up for, so RoS will be something I buy and play through and probably shelf.
The problem is that Blizzard always swings between extremes before finding a decent middle ground.
RoS is bringing some good things to D3, specifically build changing Legendaries and Adventure mode but we see problems with the tuning. Master is too easy, legendaries are too rare, smart loot is too frequent. Those are the things that are making me less excited about the future of the game, but i'm sure that they will be tuned a lot better than the build we are playing now on the test realm, it's just that no one is working these days because it's holiday season and we won't have a new beta patch until january.

People who are stuck in D1/D2/D2LOD land need to realize those days are gone. D3 will NEVER be like them. Either let go, or go back to playing them only.
I too have played from D1-D3. Still have all my CD's. Still play them from time to time. But I know that as a franchise, Diablo HAS to change to survive. If your wanting D2 with better graphics, your SooL.
RoS brings many quality changes. Some well received, other not. If it will be a hit or not, only time, and numbers, will tell.

This is the black and white of it. - numbers meaning "money" of course... I came to the realization that my nostalgia condemns anything after LoD... i mean i played and enjoyed that game for the better part of 8 years ... The shame of it is, for me, is watching the evolution of this game spiral downwards... Simply put, I dont like console games like Cod or Battlefield and the xpac changes, from what i can see thus far, dont make me want to even give it another shot... peace out guys

then quit instead of making a childish scene about it? I personally had terrible experiences with diablo 2 and am very glad with the way the game has developed. the only thing that really pisses me off is how god awful the story has become. I'm not just going to throw a rage baby fit because the game isn't tailored EXACTLY to my tastes. I personally fucking despise the diablo series and this is the ONLY one I could actually enjoy outside of the story, whereas the other two I just liked the story and the rest of the game was a worthless grind with tons of griefers and endless trading and runeword farming because nothing else was worth shit and the only way to play the game was to find people to give you duped/hacked items.
the ONLY grievances I have with the game is the shitty loot system currently, the god awful metzen story, and the fact that the game was sold as half a product and a lot of content was pulled out for the sake of expansion material.

Brx is one of the butt hurt PvP fans. All he does is troll, whine, and lastly complain about PvP.
