I feel bad for Travis Day. He seems like a pretty cool guy, and I thought he presented his case for MF pretty well. Sadly, the forum went into full-derp mode after his two posts today. Not even a weak attempt to civilly argue his points. Nope. There isn't a single post in that thread that Travis could actually respond to, or glean anything from because it's all hyperbole and "you ruined my life" and "you're a moron" and "what about Diablo 2" etc etc.
Probably won't see anything from him for another few months. Or until after release. Or ever again.
I get the feeling people really like the game in this forum, but they're also pretty hard on it, but in a way that makes sense. I mean, they're not torturing themselves, if that's what you mean, lol
Well IMHO they need some draconian mods over there for a while to clean it up. Yes, people would cry censorship, but tell them to STFU. If you've hung out their much you know who the people are who aren't ever going to be happy. People like the angry AH Tycoons, or those on a personal crusade against BOA. Then of course you have those who still can't accept that D3 is not Diablo 2 with better graphics.
I think the PTR is amazing and very much needed for the future of the game. Same goes for RoS.
I like 2.0.1, but without the RoS stuff to go with it I'm already bored. I may not play much more until I get in beta (won't hold my breath) or RoS goes live.
I enjoy all Diablo games. It's just the official forums are so bad which is why I prefer Diablofans over anything else.

I'm absolutely loving the PTR! The new class changes were what I was most excited about! I feel like there is a great overall balance and much, much more build potential.
I did like the original D3 to some extent, but it was a disappointment in the end. And I think that for me it was the AH, that ruined everything. It was a barrier keeping Blizz from fine-tuning the gameplay, because if some items would drop a little more often than never, then the AH would be flooded with those, that would impact difficulty, gameplay would get boring, and so on. AH influenced Blizz's decisions, bound them to it's rules. BoA was part of the solution, but not a cure. And after all the patching the only thing I really enjoyed was plaing self-found HC with friends, who felt like playing this way too, but the loot was not rewarding enough to keep playing past p8 (and my friends were only playing to get HC achievements). I believe that removing the AH was the decision, that will bring this game back to life for me and for many others. Strangely enough I was lucky to get into the beta the very day it was announced, and I must say I like it (lvl41 crusader atm). There are some things asking for improvement, but I have a feeling, that this is the game I will be enjoying like I enjoyed D2 in the past.
I love diablo franchise and i've been here since day one of D3 not caring that it took 8 major patches to receive a small version of what we were supposed to receive in the first place. This is Blizzard tactics, i am a fan boy, please take my money -period. Nevertheless i cant turn a blind eye on this particular PTR. Being an owner of the console version and this "1.5" so called loot version, i can tell you that 2.0.1 is somehow dissapointing at this point. I repeat at this point. Loot 2.0 was supposed to be more rewarding and it came to drops as in quality and not in quantity and i understand that. But at this point and after farming cursed chests and all the major spots of act 1 2 and 3, the one legendary drop proves that something is wrong. A good legendary indeed ( i am at work no pic available, sword with lightning proc -not thunderfurry-) but still one. I am not expecting to find an upgrade that easily, i have good gear on live (i can faceroll mp7 according to diabro3.com) and smart drops are indeed smart now. But still since this is a grinding game, and the only reward is looting. I prefer having to drop 10 legendaries to find one descent than struggling to find one in the same time. I don't lose hope and i will still try to understand this new phase the game is going through but if the PTR is what will vanilla players will get and all the honey is in ROS, then gentlemen, we got screwed big time yet again.
OP, to answer your subject line...absolutely still like it. The official forums are filled with the trendy people, who follow the flow of whatever they think the general consensus is, because very few of them can actually think for themselves. They constantly post in hyperbole, there's rarely any real analysis on the part of the regular posters, and anyone who posts a thread longer than a couple paragraphs gets peppered in comments with "TLDR TLDR TLDR, you a fanboi, TLDR."

Ignatius...had no idea that Travis posted, but I went to the official forums to see what he wrote...the link is right here for anyone curious. Hopefully that's the one you're talking about?
I've been defending a lot of what the D3 devs have had in mind for this game, because I want to understand the philosophy that goes into it. Diablo 1 and 2 were really fun games, but the fact that they were so easy to exploit leads me to believe...not that the original developers got lucky, but that they weren't bold enough to tell the community "hey, don't exploit our game...play it." The D3 devs are that bold, and will risk telling everyone "what's fun" if it means the gameplay is more legitimate and less "exploitative."
That being said...I'm totally on board with what Travis is saying. I would absolutely rather see MF be relegated to Topazes in helmets and even particular legendaries, as those are specific things to choose to utilize at almost any given time (and the Nagelring, due to Smart Drops, can actually be an effective item, rather than causing a player to sacrifice power for more reward), than watch people gear-swap or stack it and get rained on.
I been into the game again after quite long break. Maybe ½ year tbh. I regret that a little bit because I also lost all the friends from the game during that time.
So nowadays I pretty much do some solo thing or some public games. Trying to level all classes to 60 in SC and finish Inferno in HC before expansion. I've been playing mostly self found but every now and then I go to AH. My main SC barb got quite many IK set pieces because I wanted to do that achievement to get full set before Expansion arrives and you have to find all pieces since there is not trading or AH. My main SC barb is most equipped from AH, but all the rest is self found (mostly found items with other chars i've been playing).
With the main SC barb i'm also trying to farm hellfire ring.
So overall its been quite nice to be back to the game. All i'm missing actually is some friends and play company.
I've had a great time with the 2.0.1 PTR, and all of the changes, including the loot changes. I'm a big fan of a smaller amount of loot with more choices based on unique affixes (like combining +fire damage affixes with things that add fireballs to attacks...as a Monk). I'm hoping to get an RoS beta key so I can try out Adventure Mode in a more prolonged setting.
The changes to combat: pacing, more random density, more random/larger elite packs, more random elite/champion combinations, new affixes, and abilitiy updates are right up my alley as it's my favorite aspect of Diablo 3.
I'm about to give up on the official forums...they are more of a cesspool than usual...filled with people who hate EVERYTHING.
We still have our fair share of haters and trolls that show up here, and even many of us longtime fans of the series can be quite harsh on the game and the developers when they make poor decisions, but this site is called diablofans for a reason. I'm still playing more than 1.5 years after launch (albeit not nearly as regularly as I was back when it first launched), and I have no plans to quite anytime soon. The game is a lot of fun to play, it has improved significantly since launch, and RoS will be offer many additional improvements.
This community isn't perfect, but there's a reason why I read and post here but stay far away from the official forums whenever possible.
I'd say most posters here like the game or at least have interest in it's future success. There are very blatant haters however they usually don't survive very long as it becomes obvious to normal posters here.
Sure we all disagree on a lot of stuff but usually it's a thoughtful discussion that ultimately shows that the diablofans community do care about the game. I actively play on and off but as long as I'm not super busy with school I try to stay active with these forums.
I'd say I still enjoy the game but I don't play it 6 hours a day, which I think is the reason why I still like it ;p.
Can't say I enjoy the game in its current state. RoS seems to bring many improvements but at the same time it feels like a console game in a way. The thing that gave vanilla d3 longevity was the AH, love it or hate it, that was the end game. In RoS there really isn't much of an "end game". According to Athene there is roughly 70-80 hours of end game game play, hardly satisfying for an online game. For a casual gamer I think RoS will be a very fun experience, for an enthusiast I think it will be a disappointment, sadly.
I've heard Flux from DiabloIncGamers.com describe his experiences with the console version as being fit for people who like "instant gratification." My thoughts when hearing that was..."and so, how does that compare with people who camped in the Auction House, got godly gear within a few weeks of creation and got bored of facerolling?"
As for Athene quoting 70-80 hours of endgame play...really think that's a first impression underestimate that he's using too much logic to reach. You say the key to D3 longevity was the AH? Please. Before Paragon Levels actually gave people something to work toward, I had no desire to sit "In Menus" staring at gear I wished I could get in the game itself. I understand the concept, that the AH was a form of trading...but even 100% free trade, with no BOA, still took longer and was more engaging a way to progress than flipping items and buying endgame gear for all one's alts and never having kill any monsters.
Legendaries actually changing gameplay, and skills actually having reasonable synergies with one another, will keep this game going a lot longer than the two-year struggle most dedicated players have dealt with. Only reason Athene quoted such a small number in the video he posted about it is simple...he's looking at Bounties and Rifts and not seeing much variety. His logic is, people will just do those things and nothing else, and he thinks people will get bored. Meanwhile, in truth, people will be experimenting with builds, trying out new strategies, and doing those simple objectives to get more legendaries that can change their gameplay, and the process starts over again.
Plus, by adding an almost clean slate like Adventure Mode, the developers can add so much more to it. When Athene posted that video (which, by the way, he spent at least a portion of it talking about PvP), they hadn't made any announcements on Hellfire Rings or Uber Bosses, but apparently there will be a lot more of those...NEW Uber Bosses (including Diablo) are likely, in addition to the Bounties and Rifts, as well as Cursed Chest events...
70-80 hours? Not saying Athene isn't reliable for good feedback, but...try to not take him literally on that estimate.
I'm about to give up on the official forums...they are more of a cesspool than usual...filled with people who hate EVERYTHING.
I do, very much so. I've played since the first game and have high hopes for ROS.
Haters gonna hate
Never played d1, d2 or any arpg but played over 2700 hours of d3 and still lovin it

Absolutely. I've spent a lot of time on D3. I'm currently playing on the PTR, and I'm enjoying it as well. My only gripe on the ptr is the difficulty.
friggin yea I love the game =D Playing PTR all night
Yes. This is the forum where people that actually like the game write.
Ha. Bagstone.
