I have about 1.3B right now and I haven't kept up well enough with the info from Blizcon and leaks. So I didn't know if I needed to try and save up more or just go a head and spend now since gold might not be needed as much. What do you guys think?
Well, can't say for sure since i dont have beta but KingKongor spend like 1.5B gold in 5 days due to enchanting etc. so maybe 1,3B isn't really that much.
Save it. If you spend it now it's pretty much a waste, having a large sum of gold in RoS couldn't hurt you. Oh ya and enchanting with the mystic gets real expensive real fast if you have to keep re-rolling a stat on the same piece of gear.
Last I heard, completing a set of bounties for one act gives you 3m gold (in the highest diff.). Since they are reworking the game to be extremely self found, I really think you don't need to worry about saving up. Like Dylan says, it can't hurt you, but I wouldn't stress about it.
a single bounty in T6 grants you about ~3.2m gold, enchanting a ring (rare) for the first time costs like 5m and it gets increasingly higher every time you try to enchant it (10th time costs like between 70-80m) so yeah, it gets REAALLY expensive very fast if you try to optimize a single item multiple times.
Really I don't think any of it matters in the long run. The best thing you can do to prepare for RoS is get every class to level 60 - after that, you're pretty much set.
Kongor went through that much gold because he is a moron.
If you don't try to optimize everything you find when you know you'll find something better fairly soon then you won't have problems.
Please don't insult members of the community like that. Kongor also has a forum account here so it's not really nice.
I udnerstand the Twitch chat trolling humor and all but it's just not suited for this forum.
About the gold, i got around 700m saved up and i think it will be enough. I don't think anyone should be spending all of their gold on ROS release just because we don't know and won't know enough about what items are the best and what we should be crafting, enchanting, etc...
most streamers i watched spend 100-300mils and after that they become fairly self sufficient
most expensive things in beta are crafting/removing 1st tier of gems
and enchanting jewellery 1mil up
if i got aces to beta 100mil would be enought
but i expect that crafting gems (that is right now for free) is going to be expensive
upgrade from T1->T2 50MIL
upgrade from T2->T3->T4-T5 for free
if they are going to follow current progression its going to be like 50-100-200-500m and is also much likely that u wont find such high level gems in live game
50Mil for T1 ->T2 is probably place holder value - i expect it way way lower and probably reduced number of gems to upgrade for next tier lvl (consoles require only 2).
If you have 1.3 billion gold, it will be more than enough for the start. Blizzard has to balance the game also for the average gamer and I guess the average gamer has 10 to 50 million gold in stock. These gamers need to have a chance to use the ingame mechanics without saving months for a single enchant or craft.
I'd say your estimate for the amount of gold that the 'average gamer' (if there is such a thing) hs is about 10x too high.
With the bounty rewards gold is worthless. Same for Paragon leveling before the expansion.
You currenty get 3 million gold per bounty at high torment level and in takes 5-6 solid days to get to para 100+ with boosted Xp.
Blizzard went out of their way to make sure everything vanilla D3 players did to get an advantage was taken away. Having an insane amount of gold and 150+ para levels only means you are leading for like a week.
In hind-sight i dont think a years worth of para leveling and gold collection was worth one week advantage in RoS... Do you?
Okay, can we stop assuming that everyone has billions after a couple of days in RoS? The numbers just don't work out.
Yes, all the famous streamers get a few dozen million gold per hour. But that's just because they are playing 24/7, brought in 500k+ DPS gear and billions of gold, enchanted their gear to have a crazy head start on high Torment levels, then grabbed jaw-dropping new legendaries and are roflstomping through Torment 6 now with insane speed. After three days of beta these guys have gear that many people won't have even months into RoS, they are using broken skills that won't make it to live.
Did anyone watch the Diablofans stream? I can relate much more to that. They're playing on lower Torment level (2 or 3 IIRC), they're playing like a normal human and not like a robot, and their money/hour is much lower (I remember seeing some 300k for a bounty or so).
Yes, you can get to paragon 100 in 30 hours, you can find 6 legendaries/hour, you can kill MP10 ubers in under a minute. But most players haven't even reached paragon 100 after a year, some players play a day without seeing one legendary, and some players have never killed MP10 ubers.
If Blizzard were to balance the game around your famous idols from Twitch, we'd be screwed. It's like watching Michael Jordan and deciding that your own Basketball basket needs to be 5 meters high up and super tiny because otherwise it's "too easy".
If Blizzard were to balance the game around your famous idols from Twitch, we'd ...
... actually have a challenging game.
but on topic : Of course the streamers blow trough all their money on PTR. It's only the ptr and they will have the money back when they go back to their live chars. I dont think that they'll blow trough all that gold as fast on live.

Actually the typical 30-40 level paragon player will be like this easily. Gear drops are pretty common atm. Most of the people streaming on twitch are just average people... It doesn't take anything special to play D3 it's a hack n slash lol. Do bounties over and over loot bags, collect gear.
You make it seem like people are going to have a hard time doing that. Going into the game with gear really doesn't change much than just starting with nothing... Bounties get someone from 60-70 jokingly fast, and after that just collect bags, open em up and enjoy the beams of light.
It's super fun, and enjoyable, everybody is going to be able to beat torment 6, and that's not a bad thing at all.
Guys, just sell your gold on the RMAH while you can.
RoS isnt balanced at all! They will most likely further balance the crafting/ enchanting etc. according to the gold income. I've seen a blue post somewhere stating the numbers weren't final at all. So yeah, you're probably set if you got some hundred million gold. I'd convert the rest to euros while still possible.

The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t...
i also dont expect marquise gems drop when ROS get on live servers. it takes only 81 marquise gems to craft highest tier
instead stars/flawless star will drop and therefore 2200 needed to craft last tier same as marquise need right now
(all this assume they want to keep same speed of gem progression)
I do. If Marquise gems don't drop then they haven't "reset" the gem portion of the game.
u need high end goal right now gems are only mater of gold but in ROS its pretty accurate display of your progress
u can get lucky with drops and have high end gear but finding 2200 is only mater of time
and also difference between them is so small that that u wont be seriously cripled
when come to price i believe that gold will be balanced that u get enough gold to craft but not enough to waste
right now in beta after couple days there is nothing u can spend gold on
Out of all my 600 hours of playing softcore, when i sold all my gear/gems I managed to get 275m. I only have few keys, machine, 4 crafted piece. My whole stash is empty.
Out of my 100 hours of playing hardcore, when i sold all my gear/gems i managed to get 1.1b. I only have 1 tab filled with leveling items in case i die.
Few days before auction house shutdowns, im gonna spent 5m on gearing my softcore character so I can clear new content. Really not planning to spend more.
But i have doubts what to do with my HC gold. I have no fucking idea what to do with it. My character is naked, so I will need some gear when i get into expansion. Probably gonna spent 100m on gear before AH shutdowns, but i wont play HC until i test everything out with my SC character. It will take probably 200-300 hours until I decide to play HC. But that HC gold is gonna be useless for few months, so i really have no idea what should i do.
Maybe i should swap for SC gold and sell for real money, but i dont care really about real money. I dont have authenticator anyway so its pointless. I think i will just farm AH while its there, wont have that fun in expansion anymore.
