Yeah, replica, I don't mean any disrespect, but you seem pretty antsy. I love D3, but I'm also optimistic...
1) Blizzcon is 3.5 weeks away, and the devs have been active in answering questions lately, in preparation.
2) We're seeing more datamined updates to discuss, so that's good.
3) I've been XP grinding pretty hard when I play, so come the updates, I have as many Paragon Points as possible to allocate.
4) Since not much is changing for Diablo lately, I'm using my time to catch up on other games. I'm about halfway through GTA5, I just bought Beyond: Two Souls, I have Watch Dogs coming out next month...
Diablo 3 is awesome, but I've got other things to do, too, :-)
Noto mentioned he was in the F&F beta last time around in another thread. I think we're likely to see a much more limited beta this time around though since its only an expansion. Proportionally much more of it can be tested in-house or with a much smaller test base.
No, man. You're doing it wrong. You have to look forward to the nearer future. Right now I'm looking forward to Blizzcon, which is less than a month -- not so bad! Then after that, perhaps the beta, which is perhaps... 2/3 months past Blizzcon? Then before you know it, it's arrived!
I don't think Blizzcon will be that huge regarding new RoS reveals, considering we already know/ suspect most stuff from the datamining >.>
We only know what has been datamined, which is only what Blizzard has put in the PTR. How can we possibly know what else they have to show that isn't there?
That's like saying that because only oreos are at the top of the cookie jar, there can't POSSIBLY be any chips ahoy at the bottom.
I don't think Blizzcon will be that huge regarding new RoS reveals, considering we already know/ suspect most stuff from the datamining >.>
Well see, that actually goes back to my predictions before Gamescom...which came true to a minor extent...
Basically, Gamescom featuring a more general audience from the whole industry, they'd want to announce the biggest most game-changing stuff there, to get the most attention and interviews. Blizzcon, on the other hand, I'm sure attracts industry people as well, but it's mainly geared for fans and customers of Blizzard products. Thus, like you said, we may not get much more about Reaper of Souls specifically at Blizzcon, as most of their major additions in Reaper of Souls were already driven into the ground at Gamescom, and the fans and customers already know about them already and have read them a million times over.
Then again, they will most likely discuss it further, in an attempt to put some rumors to rest while confirming others, not to mention confirm or kill things gathered from the datamining. Obviously, the datamining was great for us here, so we can discuss things they're working on, but it wasn't supposed to happen. That isn't to say Blizzard doesn't know about it, I'm positive they do. So it'd likely benefit them to announce other free system features they're adding, that we found in the datamining, that they haven't talked about yet...
Like the Devil's Hand gambling thing, Bounties, clans, guilds, the open-world/adventure mode, ladders/seasons, expand on features and aspects of Loot 2.0 and Paragon 2.0, as well as...and to some people, this is probably the most important...
How they'll be updating the trading and communication systems in D3, with the removal of the Auction Houses. I'm sure since the announcement that the AHs are going away, some people have been panicking pretty hard about it, and they'd do well to quell that panic and turn it into anticipation, :-)
They are going to have to release some fantastic news at blizzcon to get me excited for Diablo 3. I have already accepted that Diablo will never be the game that I dreamed of. I am sure Reaper of Souls won't be either =\
And I'd just like to add I'm extremely happy with everything announced and read between the lines so far (even the offensive stat caps, which sadly got removed - hope they reintroduce them) and if implemented properly it would fix all the bigger issues the game has had since launch.
In regard to the stat caps, Shad...I did see that in the last batch of datamines, the stat caps were removed...my theory on it is that they're still doing tests, and wanted to remove them temporarily for the sake of testing new features.
I do feel, like many, that capping certain stats like the datamines suggested is a bit of a shallow way of keeping the ceiling for godly characters lower, and keeping the game from getting too broken, but it also ensures the game stays reasonably challenging and rewarding when one succeeds. Plus, the way it would've been implented wouldn't eliminate the ability for people to raise their Crit Chance and Attack Speed to really high places, it just meant that people wanted to work for it instead of just click a few buttons, buy a few gear pieces and HAVE it. :-)

Why are you so sure of that? What part of the announcements and proposed major changes to the game do you think won't make it way better?

The crusader and act 5 looks awesome. I'm sure the randomized events and dungeon runs are cool too but I like to think realistically. As far as I know I have no idea if open world will be implemented until blizzard gives us the official word. Also these new features that we are getting are awesome but unfortunately (again as far as I know) we'll have to play through the first four acts which are tightly scripted and linear and have been over played. The game itself has not changed.
It is easy to think "well of course they are going to add these things to RoS" but let me remind you about Diablo 3 beta. We were told that the skill system was going to be a certain way and that we will be getting an official PvP and they changed their minds literally a few months before launch. You would think that things that should obviously be in the game should be but blizzard will never give you the pleasure of a straight answer.

Well see, right at the end, is a very common paradox. You took the beta and their distinct word that a particular skill system and PvP would be in the game at launch, they weren't as advertised, and you're now upset. Understandable...anytime I get something that isn't as advertised, I'm also upset. However, then you complain that they're not giving you a straight answer. You can't have both. What you want is for them to give you the straight answer you want. As far as I've heard, the devs have said numerous times 1) that they don't want to turn D3 into an eSport, and 2) that a solid PvP system will be in place when they have one that really has a lot to it, and they can be proud of introducing into the game. So maybe "it'll be ready when it's ready" is a poor answer to you, but it's the truth. They're gathering feedback and working on it. Which they've said. Sorry that's not straight enough.
As for the game's linearity...yeah, the story is linear, but be real, no one who played D2 for 12 years straight played it over and over for the story. They jumped around the game and did side-quests and experimented with builds, just like you can do in D3. All you do is create a game at the end of an Act and jump around waypoints...same as in D2.
I hated how D2 had 6 little quest boxes per Act (3 for Act 4), and 1 was always killing the boss. But I love that in D3, you find most of the sidequests through exploration. Granted, some of the maps are shaped the same, but you never know exactly what events will spawn. Anytime I run Keep Depths 1, I love finding Ironsmith Maldonado and I always help him out. 64k XP per finish, bunch of loot AND I can sell to him right after. Fields of Misery, love when the Decaying Crypt appears. HUGE mob density, Resplendent Chest, quest XP, and loot pile after you beat the bad guys. Black Canyon Mines...not a big one, but I love finding that doorway that takes you to the Rockworm cave.
Best part is two-fold 1) those sidequests don't always spawn, encouraging repeated game creations just to find them. Countess ALWAYS spawns. Pindleskin ALWAYS spawns (unless you talked to Anya after the quest, or something, then you can't fight him anymore with that character...they really should fix that...and yet, they won't). Bosses I think are always there now. Sure, it ensures you can repeat them, but there's never that random chance they won't be there. 2) the Reaper of Souls expansion will be adding a bunch of sidequests (as well as the Mystic for additional time spent messing with items), and things like Loot Runs, Nephalem Trials and other stuff added free in a patch outside of RoS (which may include Bounties, the Devil's Hand card flip for an item reward, Gheed might even be making a return for gambling) will further add to what can be done outside of the story.
So I'm not really sure what you're talking about in regard to D3 being too linear. Outside of the story, I don't find it all that linear. Even now, without all those updates.
To be fair, I find the sidequests to be pretty crap in terms of rewards. Gold reward is ridiculous; XP isn't even a drop in the ocean, it's a molecule in the ocean; and the gear is just more rares.....as if I'm not filling my bag with rares all the time and they're always crap. I never do them anymore.
Well I know, Maka, I've read your posts before where you don't want Diablo to feel like God of War, because you play for the gear. I'm also not saying the actual items you get as rewards are terrific. You're right there. With better itemization coming, the rewards for doing sidequests and events will likely go up as well.
In regard to some of the XP rewards for quests, it may be a drop in the ocean, but they still stack up during runs. Plus, finishing an event nets you an NV stack, even without opening a Resplendent Chest at the end, if one is given, so even if the XP reward isn't huge, doing events still gets you to five NV quicker, which nets you more XP for killing mobs, so all in all, it's good to do them.
Mainly I was just saying that I like D3 sidequests better than D2's. There's way more of them, you have to find them out in the world, and they don't always pop up. Ultimately, WHEN they fix itemization and revamp loot, more than likely sidequests will be more appealing, :-D
Pindleskin ALWAYS spawns (unless you talked to Anya after the quest, or something, then you can't fight him anymore with that character...they really should fix that...and yet, they won't).
Can't help but nitpick...
Pindleskin spawns at the entrance of Nihlathak's dungeon, but after you complete the quest AND grab the waypoint inside, the portal disappears. The trick is to not grab the waypoint, that way the portal is forced to remain open and you can use it to farm Pindleskin. However, even if you do grab the waypoint (which makes farming Nihlathak easier, not that many people did that) you can still backtrack to the entrance and Pindleskin will be there.
So, Blizzard can't really fix it, since there's nothing to fix. Keeping the portal open to farm Pindleskin is technically an exploit.
Yeah, they're better than D2's. They're just not worth doing, for me. I'm just not that into action games; I AM really into loot-based games, though. That's just why I play these games. I want to want to do the sidequests, though; I just.....don't want to, at the moment

Nitpicking that is fine. Believe it or not, I didn't even remember what Pindleskin was when I played D2 more often years ago. I only just found out within the last few years that farming Pindleskin was actually a thing people would do repeatedly. Admittedly, I only had minimal knowledge of what it required, and of the trick to keep the portal open. So yeah, I was mistaken, I thought part of the trick was to not talk to Anya, but something about that didn't seem right.
Thank you for setting that right, :-)
