I own both PC and PS3 version of Diablo 3. Over the last week i've watched as PC gamers have raged at the insane loot on the console version. Well the console version isn't perfect. So i figured I would make a list of certain things i think should be brought to peoples attention that are freaking out about this version.
My personal console cons:
1) Graphics: Low res, zoomed in camera, shoddy performance with too many monsters on screen, constant client freezes in four player public games. All in all the game looks bad and after a week of playing i stepped into Path of Exile and thought GGG upgraded that games graphics LOL!
2) Co-op loot: There are zero loot options in local co-op. Its 100% FFA. No round robin, no loot priority based on main stat... nothing... just fist fights, thrown controllers and arguments. Also that wonderful version of smart loot on the console version doesn't exist in same screen co-op so the loot is crap. Anyone seriously trying to gear up a character... play solo or online.
3) Gearing up alts: You can't gear up alts at all. Have a level 60 master V main and want to farm for loot for that new alt? Cant because 99% of the loot solo and online is for the class you are using.
4) Gear: Gear stats are horribly boosted, Im down with smart loot, im down with gear rolling with good stat set ups however i am not fine with gear having 400+ main stat, not fine with having almost 100k dps in hell mode. Who asked for that? why trivialize your game like that? At least balance the difficulty to match the gear. With that gear on the first 4-5 difficulties you 1-2 hit everything...
5) Difficulty levels: Blizzard decided to not offer benefits for Easy, Medium & Hard difficulties and the MF/GF % boosts for Master 1-5 are pathetic to the point of MV not being worth it at all passed Master I. So not only does the endgame start at mp5 (master I) but the benefits versus the risk arent balanced at all.
6) Inferno Mob Density: We all know console can't handle mp+ PC mob density however console does boost density slightly as you raise Master levels. Bad news Blizzard didn't bother balancing Act 3 default density with the rest of the game... So guess what we will be doing our entire time in inferno? Act 3 runs... How does Blizzard make such a silly mistake? Not even an attempt was made to raise Xp levels of monsters in Acts 1,2, and 4 to make those areas viable farming spots...
7) Cheaters: With offline play comes save game hacks, dupes and more... this isnt a problem since Offline is supposed to be solo and local (lan) co-op only. However for some reason Blizzard doesnt let us create online only and offline only characters similar to Diablo 2... So now we have 2k dps hacked characters in public games... GG blizz.
8) Legendary items: Ok they they let every legendary drop at any level. This is ok i guess but by doing so they made rare items worthless... once you get into inferno and get a lego or set item in each slot you stop caring for anything but orange beams! I wanted better loot drops, I didnt want them to kill off rare items... So on console Yellow is the new blue.
9) Crafting: Crafting has Smart loot mechanics... however its only for the main stat. Roll an item as a barb 90% of the time it will be a Strength item. Sadly most of the time all the other stats are ass which makes crafting worthless... again. Blizzard made crafting easier by making it cheap but certain recipes are still a tad expensive like the BOA chest recipe. 150k a pop is a bit high when the gold average of players getting to inferno is 300k...
10) Controls: All in all i like the controls... this is because I play melee characters mostly... However, if you enjoy ranged characters and play a spec that requires you to place spells on certain areas of the screen you cant. Sure you can use L2 to target a monster but the lack of precision control really kills ranged classes for me when i tried to use them on console. This could be a gamebreaker for many so i figured i would add it.
Ok i think im done, I know many PC gamers are mad and/or jealous of the console version... some even say that diablo 3 on PC should have released like the console version... boy oh boy diablo 3 would have been dead in less than a month if blizzard did release it with these issues.
So don't get too mad PC guys and gals... other than loot that basically breaks the game... PC version is better in almost every way. Ill see you guys in RoS on PC.

Nice post and thanks for being honest.
Glad some people realize the console isn't the greatest, I mean its fun in its own way..
But as you stated above, it seems like some important things that PC got like mob density..and the cheating in public games would just ruin the experience in my opinion.
PC is still better in many ways and is going to get the big, necessary changes it needs when the time comes.
3) Gearing up alts: You can't gear up alts at all. Have a level 60 master V main and want to farm for loot for that new alt? Cant because 99% of the loot solo and online is for the class you are using."
WHY is this a bad thing? That's just what I've always wanted. The way it should be. You get loot for whoever you're currently playing, that encourages actually playing different classes and having more than 1 character, and it's just good no matter how you look at it. Why would you want to have 1 char that finds gear for every other char? What would you then do with the other chars?
It has pros and cons. I'm used to the concept of having one farming character that gathers equipment for all of my chars and I like it.

I think having an option to use a Master V character would be good for certain people since Master has MF% bonus. Its a subjective thing and i do agree that others will like this and not consider it a con.
I have been playing console the last couple days and I am really loving it. I havent seen a hacked character yet so hopefully I dont anytime soon.
My only gripe is that when in publc games it doesnt announce when someone has engaged a rare pack or unique mob. I dont stick to my group like gum to a shoe.
Nobody and nothing can satisfy everyone. It never happened and not going to.
Thanks for sharing something so meaningless.
Well everybody, that's a wrap! It's official: Nobody and nothing can satisfy everyone. There's just no longer a reason to exchange ideas. Let us finally begin with the shutting down of every forum on the internet.

1) Graphics look fine to me. It's actually a more zoomed out camera for console. I have yet to have performance issues, even when the screen is full of monsters.
2) Learn to compromise with your friends. I think Blizzard is assuming if you're playing local co-op, then it's probably with a friend. If you can't communicate with your friends and you fight over loot, that's on you.
4) You just said it yourself; It's easy on the first 4-5 difficulties. Then raise it to master 3, 4 or 5. Not sure what the problem is here.
7) Considering there isn't a battle.net for console, and Blizzard doesn't control any of that, if you're going to get mad at people being able to cheat, get mad at the console, because it's Microsoft and Sony's job to mitigate cheating. Nothing Blizzard can do about it. And, I'm pretty sure having online only characters, and obviously you'd need if you ever wanted to play online with friends, completely cuts the offline availability at the knees.
8) I... I don't even, what? That's EXACTLY what people were bitching about since launch! The overwhelming majority of players wanted legendaries to be better than rares, because it was lame to find a leg and realize your rare was far better! You can't have it both ways. So yes, the top tiered items are the best.
9) I have no idea where you're getting those numbers of 'gold average of players entering inferno'. But lets assume they are true; They just entered inferno. You're mad because you don't have piles of gold to spend on crafting right when you reach the end game? And yes, it's still RANDOM rolls with crafting besides main stat. This is a Diablo game, after all. In fact, it would go against your argument of wanting a slow grind to better items, if every item you crafted gave you all the stats you wanted.
10) My main is a DH so far, and as ranged it kicks ass with console controls.
I can foresee a lot of angry barbs at getting mostly loot only for themselves.
More seriously though, the idea of actually getting loot that will boost your character in a reasonable amount of time is millions of times better than right now where you can go days or months without an upgrade for your main... and means gearing up alts can be done on said alt. You can also still collect crafting materials for alts (like you can now with Demonic essences)
Low res and hickups do occur, but "constant game freezes in 4 player games" is something that hasn't happened to me. And I've played with 3 other friends, both on local coop and online (pugs).
Number 2 is kinda sad. If your group of friends is actually fighting over something like that, instead of cooperating, having fun and laughing, something's wrong in there. And I'm sorry to tell you it's not with the game :S.
Smart Drops were working quite well when I played 4-p coop last week. You can clearly see when something has been "touched" by the Smart Drop system. Also I'm yet to find any "cheaters" in public games, but maybe I'm lucky with that.
So I've been playing the Console version this last week. It has been a good bit of fun. I think that the main stat drop factor is nice, I guess I have horrible luck because I don't get it ALL the time. Again no problem there but I don't find constant upgrades like it seems you're getting.
For a casual, no internet method, I think it is nailing it.

My only gripe is the wonky menu system. I don't care for the wheel scroll thingamabob. And there is something very satisfying when looking at a stash full of stuff....the wheel scroll thingamabob really takes away from that.

So true!
You guys should see me, my brother and friends playing a fighting game, split screen shooter or even a racing game together. Headlocks, pulling out the controller cord, flipping a sofa seat upside down, gut punches and more...
The funniest part of the whoel thing is that we aren't some teenagers... im in my mid 30s lol.
At my age if we dont polish off three cases of bud, break a controller and leave with some bruises we did it wrong haha.
Did that (stealthily) to a mate the other day, playing a football (soccer) game. The funny thing was, he didn't realise it straight away, which gave me enough time to execute a long pass and coolly put it in the back of the net
I'm pretty sure this is a foundation of the console experience and executing it flawlessly is more rewarding than beating the game!
@OP, thanks for your assessment and I appreciate your opinions. I just want to share my experiences with both the PC/MAC version and the PS3 version for yours and others comparison.
I purchased the PC/MAC version a few weeks after release. At the time, I was living in a temporary apartment in Tampa for work and was using a 4G hotspot for my internet access instead of a land line. So I had issues with latency and the game itself where loot could take a second or two to drop after a kill or the system would lag out. I was loving the game but always felt they were being very stingy on loot drops. At the time, if I remember correctly, the RMAH was not yet online though I wouldn't have used it if it was. (It might have been but that's not my bag) I finished Act I in a few evenings, as I like to take my time and clear everything that I come across for the xp/loot. When I started Act II, I like to think I was appropriately geared for my level and by the players guide, I was over leveled by 3 levels or so to start the next Act. Upon starting though, I got my butt handed to me by the first two bugs that you encounter. Two shotted. I tried numerous times to beat them (I'm not a bad gamer, I just didn't have the gear) and could not do it. It became clear that I would have to re run some of Act I for loot and xp, or I would have to buy gear off the AH to make up the difference. So I checked out the AH and that's when I ran into the problem. A rare weapon for my Wizard was over a million gold! I searched the AH high and low and everything that I could find that was an upgrade was EXPENSIVE to the point that I could never afford it. So I was pidgeon holed into having to grind for gear and levels to be able to move on. It wasn't like I point A to point B to get through Act I. I killed everything, explored every inch of every dungeon, etc. That was the end of my playing Diablo 3 on my Mac.
Now enter D3 on PS3 which I bought about 3 weeks ago.
I have leveled my Wizard to 60 running through the whole game on Medium difficulty. I'm well geared (IMO) for a paragon 6 character with a stable DPS of about 130k with buffs. Farming Keywardens on Master I though I feel I am going to try Master II soon and see if I can handle it. I don't play PUGS online so the cheating isn't a problem, though I can see how this could bother some being how easy it is to dupe items/mats. I mostly play solo but my 11 and 12 year olds play couch coop with me on the weekends. We love it. We can always agree how to divide up loot though I really would love to see implementation of Round Robin or Need over Greed to coop modes to streamline the process. Going through Normal mode with 3 people on the couch can get tedious with inventory management. We have a rule, no whites. So we can go a bit longer before we go back to town, then it's bathroom breaks and snacks while one person does their inventory. There have been times that I was over powered due to a great loot drop. Act IV of inferno comes to mind. I picked up a 1400DPS dagger at the beginning of Act IV and burned everything down including Diablo. But in a way, it felt rewarding. I already went through beating him numerous times, and to finish the last difficulty so powerful felt gratifying to say the least. Like I really did wipe him from the face of Sanctuary.
I do have to say, the crafting system is weird and I don't like it much. I want to like it... I really do. But I just don't. Inferno mats are not all that common due to having so many under lvl 60 items drop. I can do a Master I clear of Act IV and only end up with 6 tears. But I do convert the Hooves into tears when needed as I have an over abundance of those. I guess I would like if you could refine the crafting recipes more. I have many copies of some of them that I give to my kids. If every time I "relearned" the recipe the stats became a little more predictable I would love that. I also dislike that I can craft gear for another class (IE my daughters DH) without switching to my DH and doing it from there. I would like an option on the crafting system to turn off smart loot for crafting.
And the final piece of the puzzle is the controls. Playing a wizard has been a true joy with the controller and I am someone who dislikes controllers in general. It feels logical, easy to control, and it is just satisfying. I went back last week and tried to play the Mac version again and disliked it even more. My dodge stick is always being used and it just feels great. As a glass cannon wizard, being able to dodge on command is so amazing!
So to sum it up, no the console version is not the end all be all of the Diablo universe. It does address many issues that I had with the PC/MAC version that made me feel like it was a waste of time. Players who are heavily invested in the current PC version may very much dislike this version of the game but I know that I am not alone in the world in my opinion of the original. I was on the fence if I was going to get a new console when they come out soon and I am now sure that I will get a PS4 just so I can play Diablo 3 on it.
Thanks for taking the time to tell us how you feel and I hope none of what I say comes off as offensive. This is just my take on what the game is to me.
Cheers Mate!

For a casual, no internet method, I think it is nailing it.

I'm pretty sure this is a foundation of the console experience and executing it flawlessly is more rewarding than beating the game!
