I think with all the news about RoS coming even though its months away, look @ gold prices the past few days, they've got up almost 50cents, gem prices have gone up, and legendary prices have fallen.
I mean hoarding certain things won't be a bad idea. When you consider people will be using gems for crafting purposes that makes sense. I bought 50 radiant star rubys like 3 weeks ago and the prices have already jumped 4mil. I bought str gems because a new str hero is coming out, so people will obviously need gems..and once its out prices will go up.
People buying gold now at a frenzy is certainly interesting however. Either they want to hold onto some for the xpack or their seeing nice items at better prices and going for them.
And what do you do with those gems, if they make 2-3 more tiers of gems directly droppable? I wouldn't call that improbable
I don't see why this would matter. You'd still need the previous tier to upgrade the new gems. The won't make them directly droppable, just look how far the direct drops for the current tier is. I don't see them making it so the 2nd highest tier of gem will drop.
They're either hoarding, or they're buying gold to get decent gear and farm (paragon levels) in the highest MP they can.
I have never seen so many people in public games (also, so many leechers, jeez some guys with 70k and 100k EHP doing MP 8-9, getting killed left and right).
It's also possible they're stocking up on gold to have some for crafting when the expansion comes.
I think he was say what if perfect and radiant squares can drop in the xpac, or even stars? In that case the value of 25,000 flawless square gems will drop. Selling quick to satisfy those that want "gems now!!" will pay, but who knows for how long?

ahh I thought he was referring to me buying 50 rad star rubies, but yeah i see the point. Either way its all a gamble. But yeah people are stocking up or something crazy, xpack news has brought a lot of people back..for better or worse.
I had to level another character finally to start para levels even though I really only like melee classes. I imagine ill plvl a crusader when it comes out and be done with it. Leveling a new character solo for 90% of the experience wasn't too bad and it did renew some of my interest in the game..but only time will tell if I can hang out and level while waiting for the xpack.
I know a whole bunch of people who came back and started leveling paragon again after Gamescom, some even with an entirely new character. And when you come back you wanna change something and buy stuff @AH. Thus, prices go up. That's it.
Maybe some people are stupid enough to start hoarding stuff, but at the same time an equal amount of people thinks the x-pac starts in a week and is emptying all mules and stash space.

Yeah, well gold prices went up over 50cents on the avg transaction in like 2 days..that says something. While they might not just be hoarding it, prices reflect people are certainly buying stuff up and at a high rate.

Yeah, because people coming back after some months have most of their gear devalued and probably haven't bunked billions before they stopped playing, so RMAH might be the way to go for many people.
I've heard more people say they want to sell everything rather than hoarding, so I just don't see that happening. Btw, I think both is stupid (hoarding or selling). Just play on, nothing changed and nothing will change for another few months.
I have never seen so many people in public games (also, so many leechers, jeez some guys with 70k and 100k EHP doing MP 8-9, getting killed left and right).
Wow you are right. I usually have been playing MP 8 and amazed at the leechers. So many level 9 or under guys doing <75k DPS. Constantly dying.... who wants to play like that??

Bots do, lol
That would defeat the basic idea of every bot in D3, as it's very inefficient to run MP8 with 75k DPS.

Not when you're leeching from the rest of the players in random public games. If 3 players geared enough for MP8 are running it, you're going to kill and get DE / drops / exp far faster. I watch my buddy do it all the time.
They (the bots) could be, in theory, leeching for EXP and Demonic Essences.
But when I made that comment I had talked to the 5-6 guys I met in those public matches, and they replied. Now either bots are getting very smart, or they were indeed new players.
Most of them said "ok, sorry... thought that since I wasn't dying too much, this would be fine.. which MP you think is best suited for me?", but one just said "who cares... stupid elitist whores!" <_< the party opened a vote to kick him right after he said that, and yes, I helped that vote pass.
Thanks, Zero. Yeah, just talk to these "bots" and you'll figure out their story.
A public game with only 3 people (or even less) capable of doing the content is not efficient. Maybe efficient enough for some players, but not for a bot.
The other thing is that I'm sick of two comments:
"Oh, it's because of bots" and "oh, it's because of the RMAH." Both claims come up on almost every thread recently, and the only "proof" for these claims is a huge tinfoil hat on the poster's head. I'm becoming quite annoyed by the fact that some people don't even think about other possibilities and always continue beating on these two dead horses rather than using their brains.
That being said, and kinda going back to the topic of this thread: many people started playing again and buy gold, as RasAlgethi's example also pointed out. Bots don't buy gold, obviously. If the announcement of RoS would cause the game to have more bots, the gold price would go down and so would the entire economy (higher supply). Not the case. So please keep bots out of this thread.
Guess people are in hoard mode now.

I would imagine he thinks they will be needed to re-roll affixes or something, thus demand and price will go up after x-pack.

I listed 1 bil for 2.24 each 50m and it sold almost instantly.
