Well, to be exact there were two exploits. The first one was fixed about a year ago, and the second one, where you took it on to the PTR and I'D it, was I want to say 6+ months ago, but I can't remember. It was after the first PTR though.

Wow, I didn't even know that was a thing. How did they go about fixing that? Did they make UNID items re-roll if transferred or something?
I think it's long gone, picha. Melkor told me he just bought a ton of unID Mempos and got himself one with CC (still might be a few mil in the hole, though). If the exploit's still there, he surely wouldn't have gotten one especially if he bought from people heavy in the unID market.
i purchased20 unid memp and not a single CC. And later the same day i purchased66 unid chantodo will and not a single with a socket.
RNG or it still exist?
RNG. There are 32 possible affixes that can roll on a helm (http://www.d3own.com/affix-list-105/helm/) minus 4 on a Mempo because they're already included by default (life%, allres, socket, mainstat). Leaves 28 possible affixes. So... 20 unid Mempos and none with CC is not even necessarily bad luck. (Note that even if you buy 100 Mempos there's still a good chance of not getting one with CC).
Like Jaetch said, there are still good rolls on unid items, but it's only a small chance. Just think about it, otherwise unid items would be worth much more. And to be honest, I don't think there's an unid exploit; if there was, the unid market would be pretty much dead, just like when the PTR exploit was around and no one was buying any unids. So, unless someone has any proof, I think we can say there's no exploit right now. Everything else is tinfoil hat stuff.
Well, it's possible that some people kept their stealth-identified storage after the PTR scam was revealed, waiting for unid prices to rise.
Or, even more likely, someone might have bought cheap stealth-identified unids during the PTR scam (without knowing that for sure), for the sole purpose of reselling much, much later.
Well, to be honest, almost all trading has always been shady business. We can all board the AH hate train, but the one good thing about the AH is that it made trading accessible for everyone (not just those who knew all the D2JSP folks) and doesn't allow for scam (just remember all the reports of people getting scammed in non-AH trades).
It's one of the reasons why I never traded in D2, it's the reason why I haven't bought unids yet (though I'd love to, I really loved gambling at Gheed), and I'm quite happy that my gear is so "cheap" that I can easily find everything on the gold AH and don't need to resort to D2JSP (like those people who are looking for weapons that are more expensive than the (RM)AH money cap).
if you enter the ptr all your unids would get identified if thats what you ment?
No, if you enter PTR all unids just disappear (source). What he meant is that at one point in time all unidentified items were identified so that potentially "known" unids would get removed from the economy. I don't remember such a thing and couldn't find a blue post/hotfix/patch notes saying that, so afaik there might still be "known" unids around. Though it's unlikely, it's fixed for more than half a year and unid prices went down quite a bit since.
i'm talking about people able to see what the item is before selling to unwary players, scamming them big time.
thanks

i did engage in unid buying a couple of times and have my ups and downs .. it's a love and hate thing.
buy unid = support bots
not buy unid and farm = takes forever
such as it is this game huh
No, I don't know if that's true. Only the guy that has the program (if it even exists) does.
But there will always be ways for exploits, duplication and stupid botting.
Be on the safe side; buy on AH stuff that are indeed identified.

Thought I read that in the patch notes at one time.
