Its hard for them to listen to people who make sense if they don't understand what made D2 great in the long run. Which is why D3 is as it is.
D3 was lead by casual game devs and still is. They obviously played D2 causally which is exactly what this game was turned into.. They removed all the thing they felt hindered or complicated their short D2 experience which is what we got. The game devs also spent a lot of time playing WoW because you can clearly see the WoW influence in D3. They also noticed that a lot of stupid people spent money on items in D2 and turned that into D3s main focus in the RMAH.
Simple things like weapon swap where not allowed due to the fact that some people thought they lost their weapons. These are the people in charge now. Sadly.. If the people who actually created Diablo made D3, this game would have been a lot different.
All time and effort seems to have gone into making the RMAH function. Which is what these weekly 3-6 hour server down times are all about. RMAH issues.
o well if battle.net would like to make some real money i know a few gamers with good ideas they just dont know how to code thats why a good game hasnt been made yet.
I honestly think this game would be better if it was being run by the playerbase.
I wholeheartedly disagree. D3 is actually not a bad game at all, it just failed to meet the extremely sky-high expectations that everyone has in Blizzard games. Imagine the same game that is D3 as of now but created by some little kids... do you really think people would rant about the game as much as they do right now?
Besides, keep in mind that it's not a question of "franchise" but a question of "game genre". For an RTS game like WC3 or SC2, every new "game" is just a new "map". No one can do any damage by releasing "bad/gamebreaking" stuff.
So, action RPG's don't usually have mods? I think all other ARPG's on the market beg to differ.
Where did I say that ARPGs don't have mods? Please read my statement again, the part after what you highlighted. Sure, many ARPGs allowed modding, but that didn't help at all - just look at TL2. For an RTS game, this is different.
Also, when we talk about "franchise" people might put WoW and WC3 in one basket, which obviously doesn't make much sense within the scope of this thread.
You completely misinterpreted what I said.. I wasn't saying I wish D3 was designed by kids, I love the design of the game.. physics and combat are amazing. What I have a problem with are the features or lack there of that have come since. Basically everything they've added has either come from D2, or from player suggestions. Had it been left in the hands of the players via modding, we would already have TONS more legendaries, probably more classes, better class balance, better skills/rune combos, and the itemization revamp would've already taken place. Hell, go look at the synergies mod for TL2 and imagine that with D3. There are some solid modders out there.. and I'm sure we would be seeing brilliance with 14 months under our belts.

Nope, I got that, I didn't misinterpret your post.
Yeah, we would have had more legendaries, classes skills, and stuff. More stuff. But the reason why we don't have this YET is because balancing all this is incredibly hard. I just disagree that mods come up with "better skills/rune combos" or "better class balance".
Sure, there may be mods that have kinda good balance, but usually they're something like "version 5.18" or so. But some of the previous versions would be "broken" and they would be out there, breaking the game and potentially splitting the community into different parts. In an RTS game you can fix balance and release the next map version; but an ARPG is going on for years with the same character, once the damage is done it's done.
they really need to listen to the stuff that makes sense, learn from their mistakes, and make the game fun. we all know greed had its hand in play... but if they would have did it the right way it wouldnt have ended up like it is now... just logged in 10 people in general chat. gg blizz
simple solution for the pay to win and casual gamer = mp 0
now lets make this a real game please?
10 people in general or trade chat is a known issue currently, and not indicative of the player population. They broke the chat servers last maintenance, and they are not proficient at putting recently joined players in existing channels.
It would be nice to see the game have some community-driven content, but what would you mod?
The game is fairly simplified. Diablo 3 is what the individual player makes of it... Just like d2 was. So many players expect the game to rain useful items on them and play exactly like they want. Find your own content! I got bored with my sc characters so I made a HC WD an am happily playing self-found. If you cannot find a way to play that you find enjoyable, take a break. Come back when they add a feature that piques your interest.
What I don't understand is why some mods, that won't influence game mechanics such as D3 FXAA injector mod,or some other graphical mods are not allowed, and things like multiboxing are.The first one gives you ban,and the other is completely safe.
I wouldn't mind SOME mods to be allowed.
The reason it's not allowed is right in the name. That mod injects a shader file into the game's memory, which is also how many hacks work. If I remember correctly, Blizz said they weren't allowing it because they couldn't tell well enough what exactly was being injected, be it a hack or modded shader. This could be easily fixed by Blizz by giving us a shader selection in the Video options.
OT: I don't see why Blizz is so opposed to content mods after what Median XL did for Diablo 2. It added so much content that it turned into a completely new and refreshed game. The least they could have done was bring ideas from that mod over to D3.
I feel like Blizzard thought they should make D3 appeal to the type of people that currently buy their games, not the types of people that bought there games in the late 90s. Blizzard produced a different style of games back then, now I feel as if they have sold out to the WoW generation of gamers, which can you blame them? that's where the money comes from. Unfortunately they will never know the financial outcome of tailoring the game to make it more like its tried and true prequel and less like its tried and true peers unless they try.
Firstly, remember that D1 was pretty damn hard to mod, and D2 had no official mod support on release, with mod-friendly commandline switches only added much later on, so it's not like there was some golden-age Blizzard that showered modding goodness from on high. Honestly, D2 and SC (and SC2 which, let's face it, is pretty much just an HD-version of SC as far as most people are concerned) are the exceptions.
... but yeah, D3s lack of modability comes down to its client/server design, and that is basically down to RMAH.
