No, I understand the difficulty is the same..... however, if you die in hardcore, you lose the character. It wasn't a matter of not being possible, it's about being not worth the time because it takes so long to get decent gear to continue... just like it does in inferno. Difficulty has nothing to do with it... *watches the point fly over your head for a second time* I can draw you a picture if you have an issue comprehending that
Actually I would love to see that picture. I really dont get what you want to say.
Playing Diablo is not worth your time ? Well then dont play it ^^ But again I dont see how this is connected to hc or sc or the question of game difficulty.
Do you have a point ?
the issue which was originally being discussed, which you failed to see whilst reading the above posts on the matter, is simply that the "difficulty" goes up substantially once you hit hell act 2, in terms of gear. yes, you can do it. it's easy! HARRAY!!!!!!!! on soft core. i can literally run out and die, for a solid 8 hours, to a zombie, a single zombie in act 1 normal. i'll say it again, all day. and it doesn't make a difference. for 20 hours after that, i can overcome every obstacle. not hard, EASY YAAAAAAY!!@!! now do it on hardcore. self found. fresh start. you CAN DO IT. it's POSSIBLE TO DO IT. but you have to farm normal and nightmare for days, to get the gear to proceed. imagine fighting a waller plagued desecrator arcane ANYTHING. you'll most likely die, no matter what happens, if you get stuck in a shitty situation... YAAAY SOFTCORE EASY. hardcore, that progress is lost. 12 hours into the character wasted. the situation, though my example would likely kill the average player, could have be BETTER COMBATTED with better GEAR. that being said. this gear, can't be found, unless you kill that which you died to. i've played multiple characters in hardcore. do you want to know how many of them found a piece of gear with res all on it? none. this = waste of time.
the posts above, state that you hit a plataeu in hell. where things kill you easily. but there's one issue. i want to play the game, i want to get to inferno, i want to improve gear(in hardcore). it takes godaweful long. yes, softcore it would too. the difference here is, you don't lose all your progress... "difficulty" as you say, is the fact that you can't kill what drops the gear to get the gear to kill it. even on the off chance you find, say, a shitty, yet res all pair of boots. you say, SCORE! put them on, and die slower. so you farm for 3 more days, get another pair of res boots. kinda better, but not by much... you could have used anything else with res all, to progress. this is what we're trying to say. softcore doesn't have that issue since you can just keep spawning and damaging til they're dead. itemization blows. fix that, and self found may be more popular. more people would do it. i would want to continue to self find a hardcore character. who wants to spend way too much gold (and time spent farming it or the items that creates it) on the AH when they can play the damn game to find something worthwhile for their character?
playing hardcore is a waste of time as it currently sits, because of the itemization. that's what those posts had to do with hardcore hell act 2 self found. i don't have to play diablo. but i'm a fan of the diablo franchise. it pains me to see such a shitty line up of stat values, and such stated values, provided in innumberable amounts, pushed people away from the game. i've touched on many points. the reason why you can't see the original point is because you aren't trying to.
TwoFlower - thinks difficulty is good to have. It is good to have a wall (almost like act 2 inferno pre-nerf). You should have to grind for a good while at points in the game to find gear to help you keep progressing.. stop wanting the game to be easy
Ashy_Larry - thinks that when you get to hell Act 2 (self found hardcore) you hit a wall. That wall is not so easily overcome by grinding for more gear because you have to drop to say Nightmare/Hell Act 1 because you will die (unlike in softcore) if you try grind Act 2 Hell. Then the gear you do grind for if in Nightmare/Hell Act 1 sucks due to the itemisation around those levels (lvl 45 -56) and don't help to overcome the Hell Act 2 Wall..
2. Self found play=huge respect but very tiresome since drops are like they are.
I don't get this. Its easy to play self-found and beat the game currently. What drops do you expect?
PLaying self found and "beat the game" ?? Then i think we differ in what beat the game means, to me is it to defeat Diablo on MP10, and to do that self found way is not an easy task if you ask me.
MP 10 is for AH flippers, RMAH players and people who use OP cookie cutter skills. All those MP levels where added because blizzard was too lazy to balance the game, skills and items in D3.
Zero MP is the standard bar of Diablo not MP anything.
Sorry, it seems that I did not really get your point since what you are saying is so obvious. To me it is part of the game design. Getting trough hell and to lvl 60 is almost as hard as getting trough inferno, if not harder cause as you say, yes the items around that lvl range are not too great. Lots of elemental damage starts coming in and the allres items dont show up yet. Yes, I know, I played a few chars on HC from scratch and at least half of them died between lvl 50 and 55 ^^ But that is part of the challenge, isnt it ? And they were mostly silly deaths too, like standing in a AoE. Clearly not well played on my part, and I am not trying to blame it on game design, I just make a new char and try not to stand in the shit the next time.
I still dont believe that you should always have the gear to overpower the content drop rigth at your feet. Yes, so resis are a little tigth around hell act 2, and AoE elemental damage is going nuts, but why ask for better geat rigth away ? How about dodging those poison wasps and getting out of these motlen explosions in time ?
But yeah, I guess you see that as big flaw in the game that needs changing. I know I finally made it trough inferno hc and that from starting with only a "create new character" button, and it kinda still feels like a bit of a achievement. It was probably wasting my time, but I had fun doing so.
Guess its one of those agree to disagree situations.
