I am not sure how a game company runs but from my point of view any 'release' would have a Business Analyst (BA) across it.
I get the impression that the D3 Developers are the BA's...
It would explain why we always hear them 'talking about it', 'it's on the table'.. etc etc.
They have got their head in the solution space before doing the analysis.
A BA should be there to:
- Identify the problems
- Analyse the problems to find the root cause/s and separate from the symptoms of each problem
- Elicit the requirements to address the root cause/s of each problem
- Prioritise the problems
- Send a requirements document to the developers
If Blizzard uses some stupid ‘Agile’ SDLC methodology that lets Travis Day and any other head developers decide what the ‘problems’ are with little/no real BA Analysis techniques.. god help us.
All the developers NEED to do is design systems/enhancements that meet the specified requirements!
GOD HELP US IF THE D3 DEVELOPERS ARE WRITING THE REQUIREMENTS!!
All that means is that they will have a ‘solution’ in mind and retrofit it to a broad set of requirements.
Solution idea first, Requirements second…D3 Community pissed off again because Devs did not fix the root causes of D3s problems
Also, their devs are all interns, their requirements team are a troupe of shaved monkeys, their QA team consists of life-sized sculptures of 'cabonite Han Solo' fashioned out of green Play Doh, and their art team is actually an ant farm dipped in a collection of browns, reds and golds.
I know this because of reasons, and could do a much better job myself if it wasn't for stuff and things.
Jeez... if you're going to rant, at least make it interesting. It's been over a year since release, I'm way beyond bored with 'Blizzard is terrible' posts like this. They're soooo 2012.
"Stopped reading" is not a sign of "I spotted the sarcasm" but rather indicates that he failed to recognize Catalept's sarcasm and took the "all devs are interns" bit seriously.
Try playing some other games and you'll find that Blizz does a lot of things right
I'm referring mostly to technical issues here, Diablo 3 has hardly any bugs or crashes or savegame losses. I suppose they have guys to ensure that.
"Our" (by that I mean: veteran gamers) problem with D3 is just, that we're no longer the target audience of their games. They want the new people, the beginners, the casuals because that group is much, much larger than our one.
Therefore our issues (design-wise) are tackled last or not at all depending on if it fits their other customers
