so i finally get a 1b+ item last night, 4cc 199 str 9% ias mempo, and i was so happy cause it felt like i hit the jack pot! then i checked rmah to see how much irl $ my gold was worth and reality set in.... 2b gold went from being worth $500 to $75 over night? are you kidding me? so now after 1600 hours played and finally getting my 1b+ item it doesnt feel rewarding at all.... im actually enraged! looks like i wont be putting in another 250+ hours and ill just be casually playing this every now and then cause really to me there is no point in fighting the same monsters over the same acts in the same exact areas over and over and over its pretty boring and not rewarding at all anymore. damn i feel bad for these guys that put in hundreds and thousands of dollars into rmah/gear just to see it worth nothing over night. pretty fucked up if you ask me!
the whole reason why i even put in all this time into this game was because there was money involved. the only game ive played besides this that ive put in 100+ hours into was quake 3 arena because that game was actually fun and there were real pros playing it. but this game hah i wont put in no more then another 100 hours because i see no point in doing anymore then that anymore.
Gold hasn't been worth 25 cents a mill in months, because most of the gold bought was on third party sites for 4 cents. You have to realize, ITEMS keep their value, gold doesn't because every day people are amassing more and more gold. If you want more for it, sell it on the rmah, and then buy gold with the money.

well heres the thing about selling it on rmah for more then gold ITS IMPOSSIBLE. only a moron would pay $250 for an item when all they have to do now is buy 2b gold off rmah for $75 and buy that same item off the gold ah.
true enough gold farmers were selling gold way cheaper but the thing about that is people believed them to be shady business and would rather buy the gold off rmah so they wouldnt get scammed/banned. so now this is just ridiculous.
so in all actuality if i wanted to get what my item was worth, the day before patch, i would have to wait till everyone got on board and took all similar items off the gold ah then i would have to post it on the forums for 13.3b and hope that i count all numbers correctly in the trade window.
so all in all i just sold a $500 item for $75 because just a few days ago gold was .25 cents per mil and i read the patch notes that gold is sold by 10x mil in the rmah not that the gold @ 10x mil is worth about the same as 1x mil before. if i would have known this i would have kept my item. ty blizz for screwing me over once again.
if i had the right mind, and the money, i would buy billions of gold off rmah right now and buy every single cc mempo off gold ah then post them all on rmah @ $250 a piece.
Use that 4cc mempo on your own character, or sell it on the gold auction house and use that gold to buy new items for your character.
Never mind, sorry, I forgot for a moment that people are still interested in profiting off a video game that is supposed to be about fun and entertainment.
I forgot for a moment that people are still interested in profiting off a video game that is supposed to be about fun and entertainment.
ya bro games are supposed to be fun and entertaining. but like i said this game is NOT FUN after 1600 hours played its the same old thing over and over and over. quake 3 arena probably got 1k+ hours out of me BECAUSE THAT GAME WAS ACTUALLY FUN. the only reason why i put in 1600+ hours into this was because it is a video game, i love video games, and i could actually profit money wise off of it. if i knew i was never going to make a penny off this game i wouldnt have put in more then 100+ hours, probably no more then 40 hours because this game is so boring and it only takes about 25-35 hours to beat.
so you are telling me doing the same thing over and over and over only to be able to do it on a harder difficulty and faster is something worth doing after 1600+ hours put in? please dude thats dumb as hell YOU ARE PLAYING AGAINST BOTS not real life people so how do you get ANY kind of satisfaction out of that?
you know what dont even answer that i dont even want to know. im just going to go ahead and uninstall and wait for the itemization patch and play for about a month and uninstall again im done with this rodeo show.
And that's what i think it's wrong with some players in Diablo 3. You basically played a game you don't like for 1600 hours with dollar signs on your eyes hoping to hit the jackpot. That's pretty sad in my opinion.
You could put 1600 hours into a job and make way more money. I have a very hard time believing that you played 1600 hours in search of an item that you will sell for a few hundred bucks if that. You should have quit at 150 hours if you weren't having fun. Your argument is almost impossible to side with because your logic is so flawed.
Video games are supposed to be fun, yes that is about your only valid point. However you were not having fun playing Diablo III yet can justify playing 1600 hours by saying you were hunting for item worth a few hundred dollars. I helped me neighbor clean his office for 3 hours and he gave me $100. A minimum wage retail job will give you about $120 for like 20 hours of work per week.
By the way gold on the RMAH has been worthless since last July. People have claimed gold sales have not moved in months because the RMAH was far more expensive than 3rd party sites. 25 cents for 1 mil is a joke. That's why they moved it up to 10 million. You could have put your 1 billion up and you still would have been angry.
the whole reason why i even put in all this time into this game was because there was money involved.
And that's exactly why you're disappointed.
The problem is you, not the price of gold.
EDIT
It's also magnificantally ironic that someone who admits he/she was only playing the game to make money had NOT ONE FUCKING CLUE as to what gold was actually worth. It'd seem to me, if you wanted to make money on D3, that would be one of the most basic things you'd need to know.
Gold hasn't been worth 25 cents a mill in months, because most of the gold bought was on third party sites for 4 cents. Items worth more than 2b aren't put on the gold AH anymore. It's all going to RMAH because gold has lost most of it's value. So, no, that wont work. Also, your numbers are pure fantasy. A 4cc mempo has never been worth $500. 6cc ones go for 90-120.
if i had the right mind, and the money, i would buy billions of gold off rmah right now and buy every single cc mempo off gold ah then post them all on rmah @ $250 a piece.
well for 1 im mentally ill and cant get or keep a job because of its severity and no its not just about hoping for a few hundred bucks i was going to put that gold into flipping shit on the ah and making a couple thousand because ive studied the ah enough to be able to do so like many others have. please tell me of one single player game, or game specifically and only against AI, youve played for more then 1000 hours. no one does that unless they are crazier then me.
Also, your numbers are pure fantasy. A 4cc mempo has never been worth $500. 6cc ones go for 90-120.
what is 2000 x .25? 500? did i calculate that wrong? thats 2k x 1m = 2b = $500
and yes people were paying that much for gold cause like i said they believed gold farmers to be shady business or did not want to get caught doing so to get their accounts banned.
This thread is evidence that RMAH's destroy games. Dude straight up said his awesome item drop wasn't so awesome because the fuckin dollar value of gold is down.
The problem....is you. Most people don't play games for income.
Or if they do they are:
A) Actual progamers playing competitive games in tournaments with cash prizes and sponshorship (and they are still a huge minority)
B ) Chinese farmers
If you thought you can sell 1-2b gold in the last 6 months for RMAH price, you are naive. Out of the percentage of players that do buy gold in general, the majority of those players buy via third party. Why? Because before patch 1.08, the minimum for gold was 25 cents per million while it was significantly less than 10 cents per million everywhere else. So if you need 2 billion gold, instead of paying $500 in the RMAH (plus tax), you'd pay $200 flat on another website.
Yes, that's against the ToS, but honestly, not many players follow the ToS to the dot and I can say with confidence that the vast majority of people in general will be willing to take the chance to save over $300 any given day.
In the past month, gold has been hovering around 2 to 3 cents per million. As soon as the price for RMAH gold drops to 25 cents per 10 million, you can bet third party gold will drop to one or two pennies per million.
Players have been converting real currency to RMAH gems to sell in the AH for gold. That's how it was done. That's part of the reason for gems skyrocketing to 200M a piece during the gold fiasco because players were duping gold in RMAH, buying gems in mass, and selling them for colossal prices in the AH, thinking that's even more gold for them to dupe.
Your gold will devalue consistently over time. Your items' real money value, however, will not—as long as they have stats players will still go for, such as Mempo.
I'll throw this bit out this comparison in another similar thread before (hence why I said—in a very exasperated tone—"another one of these threads?")
That was my original Triumvirate, all the way back in December 2012. Based on DiabloProgress, it's still the 16th best Triumvirate in the entire American server.
I sold it for $250 back in December when I cashed out. It was about the equivalent of 1-2 billion gold.
Last month or so, I was hunting for a new Triumvirate and thought about digging through my connections and sources to track down the current owner. I found him. And guess what he wanted for it?
A minimum of 10 billion gold. You know what that's equivalent to in the past month in terms of real money? Approximately $250.
The real-money value of your gear does not change as long as players still desire it. But the gold equivalent will continue to climb as long as gold becomes cheaper and cheaper.
More and more high-end items are now RMAH only considering they're usually worth well over 2 billion gold. Can you find a 6 crit chance Mempo in the gold AH? Absolutely not. And if you do, be prepared to flip that for over 300% of its value.
You don't make money in this game unless you play the AH full-time, as if it were a real job. And even then, chances are it'll be below minimum wage considering you can go days without a sale. In addition, if you were to treat it as a real job, you'll have to follow current builds trends, negotiate sales on third-party sites and risk losing your account, on top of camping the AH day and night to snipe 2 billion gold items or snipe underpriced RMAH items. It's not happening. Never once did I think, on my own, I'd be able to make sufficient money in this game.
When I was chasing DPS for my wizard in September through December 2012, I spent well over $3,000. When I cashed out, I managed to get back $4,000—which out of that, I pocketed one grand and spent the remaining 3K on re-gearing. I'm in the hole now since I'm mostly maximizing my stats as a hobby (and hobbies cost money). So in three months time, I made about $1,000? That's like working for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, less than minimum wage. Plus, all the "money's worth" is in high-end items that players rarely let go.
You want my Ice Climbers? I'm willing to let it go for $650 minimum or a little over 25 billion gold. You want my sword? It's valued at $1,000 minimum or 40 billion gold. My Tal Rasha's Allegience? I might settle for $700.
Not that I actually paid anywhere near that much for any of them, but gold's value went down, there haven't been any new drops in the past few months that came anywhere close to matching up with such items, and as more players reach new gearing heights, there's more demand for high-end items and less supply. Oh, let's not forget the many accounts that were banned or BoA'd after the gold exploit. Two of my friends (high-end characters) have been perma-banned. Three others have been BoA'd. That's 5x 9/6 Mempos gone forever. 10x trifecta rings, trifecta gloves, Zuni Trails, Lacunis, etc. never to enter the market ever again.
9 ias, 4 cc Mempo? That's mid-tier now. You're not going to make any sustainable income off of that aside from some additional spending money if you have a real job. It's like me selling on eBay all my old collectible cards from my childhood. I'm sure as hell not going to keep collecting them and selling them off as my income.
damn i feel bad for these guys that put in hundreds and thousands of dollars into rmah/gear just to see it worth nothing over night. pretty fucked up if you ask me!
Hobby. Golf costs money. Mountain-climbing costs money. Biweekly excursions to your favorite pub costs money. Decking out your car costs money. Building new power desktops cost money. This game costs money (if you choose to play in such a way).
And as I've said, no value drop. Your Mempo cost you 1b? Well, guess what, you can sell it for 2b now. Congratulations.
There are job opportunities for the mentally ill, so I don't buy that. $6 minimum wage x 1600 hours = $9,600. I don't think you could find $9600 worth of items in your lifetime of playing D3.
If you are serious about gaming for money then why would you pick a (largely) single-player action RPG? Why wouldn't you pick up a tournament/competition style game like League of Legends, Starcraft 2, Halo, CS, etc...? You were trying to make D3 into something it was NEVER intended to be in the first place.
I think it's kind of sad how many threads I'm starting to see like this. Play video games for entertainment. If you want money, get a job. Don't ever think you can combine the two with any sort of efficiency unless you are a video gaming god. (which you are not).

back in the day with ra3/cpma, quake 3 arena mods, i was a god. i had any where from 60%-100% accuracy online with latency in ALL WEAPONS. i would take on entire clans by myself and win. i was going to go to quake con but i went to prison, made some bad decisions. yes d3 could become very competitive when pvp comes out but i dont have the means for money to play against the pay to win "top players". ive beaten dh's, wd's, wiz, and monks with 2b items in every slot, just cant beat invulnerable barbs, in a 50m set or less. so ya i would like to compete in d3 but like i said i dont have enough gold earned or the money to buy it. i am a good gamer trust me ive been doing this since i was 4 yrs old and im hooked. i was getting hole in 1's in golf games when i was like 6 yrs old on very hard maps, i beat ff7 in 18-20 hours when i was like 11 yrs old, i also beat tekken tag 1 in 2 minutes 50 seconds play time on normal mode all perfects. so ya i am a real gamer trust me.
edit: also unlocked every single cheat code in golden eye 007 n64 when it first came out. i also used to get nothing but head shots in the original cs with 250 ping, dial up, and nothing but the glock and it was my FIRST fps.
or how about the original myst? could you even beat that now? i did when i was like 10 yrs old.
and just to let you know i never spent more then 150 hours on ANY game except quake 3 and cs. the only reason why i did with diablo is because i hoped to make money because i heard so many success stories of people making over $10k usd off of it. well anyways im still going to do what i planned on doing in the first place getting my 1-2b item to drop, accomplished, and use that gold to flip the ah, made 40m off 1 item just now, and putting all the gold im going to flip into a pvp set so i can own you noobs and make REAL MONEY
and just to let you know this is my first online rpg the only real rpg i ever played was ff7
yep pretty hard to believe isnt it? i spent 4 yrs and 3 months of my life in prison and lost alot of my gaming skill and just recently found out im schizo effective. so ive been out now since 2009 and ive been trying to get back into the gaming arena and i chose this game because i knew it would become very competitive and i could make cash if i succeeded. like i said first online rpg and challenge was accepted.
but anyways i can tell this is going no where and i dont want to get the mods angry so yall have a good day.

but anyways i can tell this is going no where and i dont want to get the mods angry so yall have a good day.
