I am no expert, but the general opinion before patch 1.0.7 was the most efficient paragon farming was done on MP0 or MP1(as long as you can still 1 shot monsters). With the changes to the way XP scales in higher MPs, does this hold true?
In case noone remembers the change here it is:
The experience bonus rewarded for killing monsters on Monster Power levels 1-10 in Inferno has been increased:
MP 1: 25% (up from 10%)
MP 2: 50% (up from 20%)
MP 3: 80% (up from 30%)
MP 4: 120%(up from 45%)
MP 5: 165% (up from 60%)
MP 6: 215% (up from 75%)
MP 7: 275% (up from 95%)
MP 8: 340% (up from 115%)
MP 9: 420% (up from 135%
MP 10: 510% (up from 160%)
I can farm MP5 rather quickly(no longer than 15-20 for elite packs) and i never die. Is it still more efficient to farm on MP0, or with the increased XP gain is it more efficient to farm higher MPs even if I am not 1 shotting everything? Thanks in advance
If you can kill elite packs on MP5 in mere seconds, then you have to be one shotting trash. So you would therefore be drastically overkilling MP0 mobs, thus wasting dmg.
depends. im currently farming items AND xp on mp5 and both work out well for me
doin core of arreat, tower of the damned 1, stonefort, keep dephts 2. thinkin about adding rakkis crossing.
...On a more serious note, start at MP0, run for like 15-30 minutes and see how much EXP you get on average.
Then do MP1 for 15-30 minutes. Then MP2. Then MP3. Do it until you realize you're either dying or things take way too long to kill and your average EXP is dropping fast.
Then go back to the previous level you were comfortable with and netted the best rate of EXP.
There you go, that's the MP level you should farm EXP on.
For me mp9-10 is the best even though it takes much longer to kill mobs, but playing CM wiz on high mp is tiring so I prefer mp7-8.
You don't need to 1shot mobs to be efficient, your kill speed just needs to outpace the exp bonus. You also got to consider that part of the run is dead time where your not in combat and killing mobs and regardless of the mp lvl this time always stays the same, say its 30% of a 10 min mp0 run for arguments sake. that's 3 min a run or 18 min an hour on mp0, on mp10 you might only do 2 runs which would be 6 min an hour. So just because your going slower doesn't necessarily mean your going too slow. Ultimately you just need to time each run and figure out what works best for you.
If you're a barb I recommend going at the MP where you can 1 crit rend trash mobs and run crater 2. I've recently been able to hit the 2.9M range with brawler which lets me kill stygian crawlers on MP10. The net result is 200M XP/Hr. With proper gearing hitting MP9 is very easy to reach.
Wizard can do the same thing but with blizzard. The scaling on it isn't going to be as great though.
I played my DH using Strafe at ~100m exp/hour in MP0 in patch 1.0.6. I think even after 1.0.7, speed farming MP0 is still considered good for a DH.

On my monk (since DH is already P100) i'm farming Arreat Crater on MP 10 averaging around 150m exp/hour. I uploaded a few runs yesterday with my gear and spec:
I started leveling my barb and tried the MP10 Crater only kill scorpions method. It's crazy efficient! Did a bunch of timed run and i'm averaging about 120mil/hour.
All this assumes you're interested in maxing xp/hr gain without regard for drops. Personally I'd think you want a strategy that is a nice middle ground, so that you're making good money even if it is slightly slower.

This run is good for exp and legendaries but bad for essences, gems, other things like that.
You're welcome to try that.
