They changed it to get more data out of the PTR. We have no reason to believe that this will go live.
What data? there are hardly any changes to legendary items on PTR if any, there is no reason for this change testing wise...
Because there have been bugs related to items dropping and causing errors, and they want to increase the drop rate to get twice as much data to look at in order to see if it' been fixed? Just a thought..
I REALLY hope they won't increase the drop rate of legendary items...
Legendary items already make up most of the gold you make even if you pick up everything and sell anything you find on the AH. Doubling it will just make it worse. AH is already spammed with legendary items.
Also, generic drop rates increases is something I fear more than nerfs, as anything I buy now (rather than sell the gold on the RMAH) will lose value so much when the patch is out. I mean, over time items lose real money value due to people finding more of them, but a huge drop rate increase makes it much much worse and makes me much less willing to power up my character rather than just cache out.
I like it because I don't want to buy my set from you, or you, or you. The satisfaction I gained from the loot grind in previous games was wearing stuff I found myself, not converting what I found into gold to then use to buy what someone else found.

I'm also flabbergasted by the greed shown by so many in this thread. They are complaining about loss of value of the items or deflation that ruins their well-oiled gold making machine. "Bad for you!" I say, good for the rest of us that want to find upgrades for our own use.
You do realize that a big portion of "the rest of you" will be complaining a week after the patch goes live that your new found legendary items not for your class is worth so little right?
as we might finally get a chance to find a good legendary and/or set, and we can actually afford some of those well-rolled legendaries from AH which are atm hugely overpriced/ impossible to reach without getting good drops and selling them.
But your drops will be worth less and the top items will just be harder to reach, the only thing helped by increased drops in a AH economy is mid level gear, higher drop rate just moves the bar what's a good item and the almost good items gets more saturated.
This conversation, if anything, highlights the divide in the player-base's mindset that Blizzard is struggling with. There are those who think the AH is a natural extension of the game and thus the game must entice its use, and there are those who think the game has to be good even if the AH never existed and that using the AH will only spoil the experience. I'm starting to believe that making a Diablo game that compromises for both sides is impossible...
Oh, and if you're curious, I'm in the non-AH camp. So yeah, I like the change.
I've never had an issue with drops. Rare as they are, I've gotten enough goodies to fund my travels and several decent pieces to use as an upgrade.
The issue with this game is that without PvP.....it's friggin boring as shit. They could at least realize that one of the keystone issues is a lack connection with the core-fans, D2 fans. In such, the lack of a hostile feature (mutual or not) relegates this game to the status of a farm-only game with no substantive goal other than finding gear with an idea of PvP far off on the horizon.
I don't see any of these changes truly tackling the issue of player boredom.
Love these random changes that usually fuck up alot of players..
what you talking about? legendary drop rate doubled would fuck up a lot of players? will make many others happy also ... ppls will not be punished cmon
Pretty sure its not just for testing, merely for the fact that if people saw them release 1.05 with that missing they would flip their lid and crap their pants. Blizzard is usually straight forward and has to explain things in great detail since there are some people who eat paint for a living.
Plus if they wanted to test drop rates, they'd just turn it into open bnet style and you kill a quill rat and 500 items pop out.
doubling these dropchances will change almost nothing....
before it was like 0,0001%, now it's 0,0002%...big fucking deal
So if you ran with a lot of MF before this change, depending on the number the chance for legend drops would be doubled - tripled with enough. Now that they double the BASE drop rate, wouldn't it make sense that the chance with enough magic find will now be quadrupled - whatever the hell means multiplied by 6? It's a pretty big deal sir.
It's good for the people who are searching for legendaries but aren't in the 1%. It's bad for the 1% who have the time and focus to min max their gear and time and sell legendaries and set pieces at ridiculous prices due to their rarity.
On the other hand, as people have mentioned, the rolls on items can be downright pathetic, this means the 1% have twice the chance to find well rolled legendaries to sell for huge sums of money.
I really don't see why anyone can complain. It gives the poor hope and a little more reward and makes it easier for the rich to find top selling items like Skorn with their ridiculous gear. If you find twice as many then you have twice the chance it'll roll well right?

Currently D3 is like only half way through to reaching its peak. The D3 that will be considered one of the best games ever will hit its best after 2 or 3 patches of D3X.
PvP will either be a success and signal that D3 is ready to become what we all hoped it would be, leading to D4 sometime well into the future, or, it will be a failure and signal the death of the franchise.
Hence why Blizz is being very judicious about PvP's development.

I like it :Thumbs Up: (if it say for the live 1.0.5)

Your contribution is highly valued and will not be forgotten. Such comical talent. How original and refreshing!
