So I am doing my normal Act3 farm run (#4,863,921to be exact) and I get a Grail drop. I kill 2 more mobs and get another grail drop. You guessed it, 2-3 mobs later and I get yet another grail drop. Nothing new there...crap item drops....woot! So I finish my run and go and identify, and the 3 grails are the exact same item. Same name...same stats...same crap loot.
Random is random eh?

I had that happen a few weeks back with an item. The next drop was the exact same rare item. Same stats and name. I don't know if I took a screenshot but I sold them cause I didn't want them around in my inventory.
I got 2 fists that dropped off the same mob. They were stacking at the same location so the names were right on top of each other... the very same name as the items have exactly the same dps with the same stat roll and vendor value.
This has been happening quite a bit to me lately. I haven't paid particularly close attention to the ID stats, but I will tomorrow. Just off of the top of my head I saw:
-Two Dread Shields from the same mob
-Two Sovereign Tassets from the same mob
-Two Archon Helmets from the same mob
-Two Colossus Swords from the same mob
That's in a handful of runs today alone. If those indeed rolled the same stats, it would seem pretty obvious the bug in the algorithm has returned in a serious fashion (and of course none of them were awesome items).
Its nothing new tbh, but im sure there will soon be a choir in here that yells RNG RNG RNG..
I for one dont think this game is as random as blizzard wants you to think. Surely there would be a easy way to prevent duplicate items to drop.
But, is it random "enough"? I think it is, only got duplicate items twice out of a gazillion runs.
Havent played for a while, only checked AH though, so dunno if there is a trend of duplicate items dropping at the moment though.
As opposed to a choir of trolls yelling about another choir that doesn't exist...
Again, this is a known bug, and has nothing to do with RNG or your tinfoil hat theory about how this game isn't as "random" as we think. The algorithm that generates item stats gets stuck (for whatever reason [the bug in question]), and resets to a previous point (the duplicate item) and then begins randomly generating again (because the algorithm is nearly truly random, that's why you don't see back-to-back duplicates).
If everything was as easy as you probably think it is, we'd all be living in world peace as millionaires.
This literally just happened to me for the first time. I have read these posts numerous times, but have always doubted it for some reason. Well, here I am, in the fields of slaughter inferno, and I kill a normal Blood Clan Warrior, and he drops rare Archon Greaves. Sweet! less than a second later I kill another Blood Clan Warrior, and out pops another rare Archon Greaves. They both ID'd as Scavenger's Hooves, and same exact crappy affixes and crappy stats, and same vendor price etc. So now that I know this happens, has anyone ever gotten dupes of a good item? dupes of a high end legendary would be great :-)
This hapened to my buddy and I when playing the other day. He rolled a storm shield that was exactly like the one I rolled a few minutes before him. Thought it was just coincidental...
