You could be farming Hell Cow Level for a WHOLE day, and only go from level 77-78... And that was as an op Sorc.
Level 77-78 in d2 would be something like 3 or 4 baal runs in a full game wich takes maybe 10-15 minutes. For any class.
Paragon leveling in general is much much slower than leveling in d2. In d2 it was relatively easy to get to level 85 the first day of a ladder reset and be level 90 the next day. Leveling did not become slow before in the mid 90's. As an example hell baal runs could take you from level 60 to 70 in less than an hour with no problem. In that time most people in paragon level 20+ would not even be able to get 1 level by farming act3 in good gear.
Did we play the same game? o_0
Granted it was over 11 years ago, and my long-term memory is quite wretched, but I remember leveling taking a really long time in Diablo 2.
(Though by a "WHOLE day", I meant more like 4 runs. I was exaggerating.. xD)
No its not too easy to reach level 100. Alakizer just facerolled all enemies in act 3 again and again amd all stuf dropped left behind self.... So many good items/legendaries and gold he missed... Seriously atleast he can now masturbate on fact he is world first... But every normal diablopayer will paly normaly with peace and clear everything to find best items
Chance that rare will have perfect roll isn't that high, so it's ok to skip it at all. Instead he got lot's of legendaries in a few days, which is way more profitable.
Time investment and degree of difficulty are two completely different ideas.
This says it all.
Blizzard are trying to hard to please everyone, Inferno was supposed to be hard and now look at it? getting level 100 is easy, it just takes a lot of time.
To the OP:
And you cant really compare diablo 2 pre expansion grind to d3 paragon levels, its quite obvious that they meant post d2 expansion.
Because it's not fun, unless there is an impossible goal to strive towards for years.
No, it isn't fun to have a goal which is impossible to reach unless you play for hours upon hours each day for years ahead.
Many have already said that 1-100 Paragon is roughly equal to 1-99 in Diablo 2. Your memory seems to elude you. It's perfectly fine as it is.
The difference was that in d2, you had farm mobs that wee way under your level, giving really bad xp, in d3, you get a buff, farm mobs above your level, and combat can be much faster (if you are a barb or really geared)
How long did the race to 99 take each time the ladder reset in D2? From what I remember, it was on the order of days, not weeks or months. I personally NEVER had a character reach 99, but that didn't stop others from getting there in a crazy short amount of time.
In D2 you could level up to 80-85 in a day if you ran uber trist until they patched the xp gains. Without the "glitch" you could easily get to level 50-60 in a day and then to 70-mid 80s the next. Even still you wouldn't run hell cows for xp, it was way more efficient to just find some guy botting and join their diablo/baal runs.
I think the paragon levels are good the way they are.
Blizz said the time spent to reach Paragon level 100 should be roughly equivalant to reaching level 99 in Diablo 2. But seeing that people got to Paragon 100 as fast as they did, I think that's wrong.
Getting 99 in D2 took EONS! You could be farming Hell Cow Level for a WHOLE day, and only go from level 77-78... And that was as an op Sorc.
Blizz needs to either make Paragon exp more, or give us another 100 Paragon levels!

Working with adobe and/or java is like pushing a paper clip against a building and expecting it to move...
Not as easy as it sounds... Also for those that are min/maxing it will take some time.
Not to mention it works only for barbs and no other class to murder mobs this fast and run between them so fast.
You can simply WotB at the start and keep it the whole run.

1) you were basically forced to play in full games or you'd get much lower xp. In Diablo 3 you can just solo your way all the way through, no matter how boring it is...
Or you could use players 8?
2) dieing makes you lose xp. At lvl 97+ this loss is huge and can be equal to losing like 2 weeks of playing, with one death!!!!!!
Was it even possible to die at that lvl with half-decent gear?
3) you don't get experience from most mobs. the higher you go, the less stuff gives you any experience. For example, from 98-99 ONLY baal kills give you any experience. And anyone who played diablo 2 knows how long a baalrun takes even in uber gear, just due to its mechanics.
It was annoying when he kept teleporting, but I don't recall him being such a lasting fight. My memory could be screwing me though, I mostly did it with my Sorc and I'm pretty sure Static Field worked on him, so maybe that's why I remember it not being such a long fight.
In Diablo 3 it's just a simple grind, and the biggest challenge involved is not to die of boredom while repeating the exactly same non-random maps for hundreds of hours.
True maybe in 2 years I'll have a PLvl 100... unless PvP helps us level up

I had several 99s. None of them did 98-99 on Baal. Nice try though.
You know what was boring? Pindleskin for the 50th time in the hour. Sitting in town waiting for the sorceress to TP hack to Baal. That was boring stuff.
anyone with life responsibilities will not be hitting paragon level 100 anytime soon. alkaizer is a student and is on break so he can spend his whole days just playing diablo 3.

Take off the rose-tinted glasses.
There are such things as stupid questions. This just one example.
