I wish Blizzard would implement another form of an AH. Like one were you list your item up for trade and was able to receive item offers for said item. I would elaborate more on my thoughts but I am short on time. Will post more later.
So, back to elaborate. My idea is similar to the in game trade window but have it be wide spread like the AH is. Right now I have a 2 hand axe in my stash that is of no use to me. Has pretty decent stats. I would love to be able to list it for trade in a trade house because I: a) am not for sure of what to price it at. would much rather see what others would offer me for it as far as items go. I mean, who wants to go through the trouble of having to sell an item to get gold to search for another item to purchase and hope that you sold the first item at a high enough cost to either make a profit or to break even.
Stats could be incorporated for both searching and listing. What I mean by that is you can search for hey I have item a with these stats to see what offers would be available to you or you can post in your listing what stats you are looking for.
I'm hoping this post is somewhat clear. I stubbed my toe and believe it to maybe broken.
As simply as the OP put it....this is actually an amazing idea. Entirely simplistic and intuitive.
Currently I'm pulling my teeth out wanting to trade Item X for Item Y. For example, I have some damn nice Blackthorne's pants I found for my Monk....but it has poison res instead of the Phys res that I need. Soooo I'd like to trade the pants straight up. Using different forums....I'm getting zero responses other than people wanting to make gold offers.
Must be the fact that we are both from Indiana that it makes pure sense to us.
Like it couldn't be that hard to implement. Or at least it doesn't seem like it would. The listing could stay up until you either make a trade or there could be like a week period of time which at any point you would be able to pull the listing if you wanted to. The item would come out of your stash so you couldn't double dip an item or anything like that. You would also be able to get a feel for what the real world wants to give for an item. It sounds dumb and may just be me but personally in real life I don't want to spend my money on something that I could potentially trade for. I don't know if it's just how I see the economy at the moment but no monetary exchange seems the way to go. I know that gold is just in game and has no real world value (unless you sell it on RMAH) but I still worked hard to get that gold and I would like to hold on to it if I could.
Seriously, someone refine this idea and post it on the official forums. I won't be butt hurt.
Also, as far as the toe truck goes, I loved that joke.
I don't think a trade ah would work or get implemented.
What I miss from D2 was being able to creat games with names and have 7 random join and leave as they wish. You can't that here, and thus it's either gah or rmah or trade chat. And it sucks. So much items going to waste or getting overlooked, which could turn a sell to not being a sell.
In d2 there was always that "yeah this item ain't worth enough, but I have this item too you can get". Most best deals were the trading up in items value with items you had left you wouldn't be able to sell alone. Can't do that in d3 in most cases.
Ya know....there were positives to the old created game trades, but the downside was horrific and I don't miss it at all. 98% of the people that would show up would either;
a) Be entirely ignorant of an items true value.
b ) Refuse to do a trade unless you knowingly allow them to overcharge you (people for whatever reason like to feel as if they've "won").
c) AFK'ers. They come in and just stand around the stash, not responding in any way.
e) OOOOOOHHH who could forget those fucking scumbag snipers? You know, those A-holes that showed up to your '190 HoZ FT' game with a better one for cheaper. Or otherwise just staying there telling people how you're asking too much while trying to sell their 185 HoZ.
f) Scammers. Even when their dirty silly tricks failed miserably, they still frustrated and wasted your time. You've already watched 10 people come and go while you're bartering with this moron only to have him try a switch.
g) People that bring the wrong item or, even though you clearly stated your request prior, they have some other lame offer for you.
h) Getting a high end item only to run across a much better one a hour later.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
Point being, I'll take the impersonal and sterile format of the GAH over the trade games anytime. Anyone whom played D2 for a substantial time know exactly what I mean. I don't know how anyone could miss the headaches.
It's a legit idea, really. I don't know if I'd use it (I tend to prefer liquidity in my assets, but that's a personal thing) but it's certainly something that could be considered. It's definitely more complicated than the GAH/RMAH in terms of how to actually handle trasactions, but I think it's an idea that is worth discussion and consideration from Blizzard.

I played D2 off and on. Less than a year in total. Never had any high end items but had friends local to me that did. All that I can remember is either them complaining about being scammed or trying to scam someone else. It was a vicious cycle that never ended.

Thank you for the positive words. I don't think it would be more complicated just different from what most people are used to. I mean how many players know about the trade feature already in the game? Just broaden it from just in game to the whole D3 world. You could even receive some sort of notification or a whisper about an offer that you receive. If done correctly you wouldn't have to leave a game to agree or disagree to a trade.
Think of it as giving the chat channel a GUI that they can use to see what they are offering, looking for, and what others are offering.

It's application would be very specific and I would venture a guess that typically it would be medium to high-end items only seeing much transaction via this AH. I have an Inna's Stone that I'd like to trade as well for one with Spirit Regen for a specific build I'm using. Not everyone has 20 mil just sitting around all the time, so selling mine for gold and trying to find a very specific one is a liability to me.

I completely agree with this. I absolutely love D3 and play it much more often than my wife would prefer, and usually just shake my head at all the emo rage over the various issues that people have had with the game. But the fundamental design of the public game system is my one true complaint. D2 wasn't perfect either, but being able to name your game and/or browse a list of games named by others was a really great system. It made finding people who were actually doing the quests you wanted to do nearly impossible, and the D3 system did fix this, but in the process this game lost one of the huge advantages of the old system.
A lot of times I have fairly low to mid-level stuff that would never sell on the AH for enough gold to bother listing but still might be useful to people. I miss being able to make a game titled "Free Junk" and watch how fast it filled up.

A trade AH would be unbelievably frickin sweet.
