I remember saying in another thread that I thought the extra stats from 100 Paragon levels would be "nice, but not gamebreaking." Figured I should do the maths on such a claim rather than just pulling it out the air, though.
So I looked at my main: http://us.battle.net...377/hero/977211. A Barbarian, with gear that is really nothing special. Not even all level 60! My weapon is my only ilvl 63 item, everything else is 61 or below. But it's enough to trivialize Act 1 Inferno, handle Act 2 with a few deaths on nasty elites, and get absolutely wtfpwned in Act 3.
Imagine that I had Paragon Level 100 right now. +300 strength, +200 vitality, +100 intelligence and dexterity. I went to http://d3up.com/ to calculate my DPS and EHP, and see what would happen if I changed one of my pieces of gear to an imaginary piece with those extra stats.
Here's the before and after comparison.
So, if you took a poorly geared character, and dumped 100 more Paragon Levels on him, that would give roughly 20% DPS increase, and 25% EHP increase.
I'm happy to stand by my initial "nice, but not gamebreaking" assessment.
A paragon level is obviously much weaker than a skillpoint and 5 stat points in Diablo 2, but it feels rewarding to earn one of them. And having more rewarding things in the end game was something that D3 has desperately needed.
You aren't supposed to get much stronger by getting paragon levels. It just makes the game feel better as it is no longer "I farmed for hours and found not a single good item". It is "I farmed for hours, found nothing, but at least I have some extra stats, mf and gf now".

Oh, agreed 100%, absolutely. That the way I wanted it to be, and that's the way I believed it was, after 5 seconds of thought.
I just decided to do 5 minutes of maths on top of the 5 seconds of thought to make sure that things were as I thought. And they are.
I dunno, that 25% EHP probably makes a lot more difference than you think.
Still, if you get to PL 100 and aren't swimming in good gear by then you're a pretty damn unlucky person lol.
Yeah I'm pretty sure that it was something in the ballpark of 25% EHP that took me from getting smashed by Act 2, to handling it reasonably comfortably. If 100 PLs did drop on me in an instant, that would be a massive upgrade. But spread across lord knows how many days /played, and combined with all the gear and gold I'll get in the process, I think it's very mild and gradual.

All depends where you spent that skill point
