So I have played over 160 hours of gameplay across two characters, I'm up to act III inferno, and I have never once found a legendary or set item.
I know that making legendaries very rare is good for the AH economy and whatnot, but it has the massive side effect of causing me to be incredibly disheartened and I have pretty much given up playing.
Every day I would log in and do some inferno runs and think "Today! Today is the day I will finally find a legendary item", but it never came. I am sick of doing runs and have gone back to playing LoL.
I enjoy collecting legendary/unique items for the sake of collecting them and having cool items, not necessarily for the stats so I don't care if rares are better than legendaries anyway. You can't collect items when the total is infinite in number (as is with rares).
I feel that something is not right when I go through the whole game without finding one legendary, let alone go through the whole game three and a half times. I hate games that force me to farm, so it's already a compromise that I do it for Diablo, but I just can't do it anymore. I need to be rewarded at incremental stages or I get bored and quit.
I'm not going to use the AH because I hate it and I want to earn my items, not buy them.
Sure, other people have found legendaries, but I haven't, and there's something wrong with that and now my butt hurts.
I've found many. You should be glad you were spared the let-down.
The best of which was a LvL59 Kymbo's Gold Amulet that I actually did use for some time with my Monk in Inferno....it's been since replaced. It spawned with 200LoH and 5.5% CC 88 Vit 7% life, so it had it's uses.
Tal Rasha Focus that brought me a few mil....Inna's Splendor which earned me a mil....Blackthorns Leggins I use for MF pants...Bul Kathos Wedding Band that I simply could not find a use for, nor did it have any real value....an abomination of a Legendary in a Giant Skull with a near minimum roll....LvL 55 Cindercoat Chest armor that was so bad I threw up a little...and several low level Legends that may or may not be useful for leveling chars.
Yeah I'm slowly building up my MF, I'm at like 179% with 5 stacks atm. But I mean if it weren't for the internet, I wouldn't even know that legendaries exist.
You can pump up your MF to get more legendaries, but you're not missing anything by not getting them. It's more of a letdown when you get one and identify it.
You prolly need more magic find to get legendaries. All of my legendaries (~6 or so) are from normal monsters.
Btw 90% of legendaries are useless crap anyways so don't be sad about it. I am much happier to see ilvl63 item dropped than legendary.
Yea...I forgot to add that only one of my many legend/set drops have come from a champ/elite/rare/boss....only one out of many, and that was a lvl59 legend amulet from the Blacksmiths wife (rare) in the very beginning of act 1. I got a Lidless Shield from a dead villager corpse and some other legendary (can't remember which) from a destructible in act 2.
Most of my Legendary/sets have come with either zero MF or just NV. Ironically, since I began using MF to farm act 1 Inferno, I've have only 1 set drop over weeks of MF'ing
As today's update from Mike Morhaime just shed light on, the Legendary/Set buff is coming in patch 1.0.4 (not the originally slated patch 1.1), so it is closer. And the buffs won't be retroactive, so it only applies to new Legendary items drops/crafts (keep in mind: Identifying an item is merely a formality. Item stats are rolled with the drop of the item, not the identification).
i have found probably 10 legendarys under lvl 59 all of them sucket except for Boj anglers that i got while leveling, i have only found 2 legendarys that have been 60+ and they where only worth thier gold in brimstone

I've found a few, all of them complete crap lol. I did get 2 set pieces within 5 minutes the other day though. Would tave traded them both for a skull grasp though lol
I agree, it's a shame that you typically don't find them going from 1-60.
For example, my friends and I play every Wednesday night as a group of 4 and we just hit 60 last night (yay). None of us have found a single legendary item yet. So even at drops x4 going from 1-60, we had 0 legendary items drop. That's way too low of a drop chance.
On my WD I find legendaries fairly regularly when I wear my full MF set (295 MF without stacks) and do warrior's rest. I believe having a high MF is the best way to actually find a legendary more than once a month. Set items on the other hand.... I found 3 within my first week in Inferno and 0 since... even with high MF... I don't get it.

Set Items are Legendaries. They don't occupy a different drop chance on the table.
This is why their text may be green, but the inventory background is the same colour as any other legendary: Brownish-bronze.
I don't care if most of them suck, its still fun to find them and see the different color loot on the ground.
The first legendary I found was after I died and was running back through an area I had previously cleared. The brownish lettering of the object blended in good with the scenery of the area. I am sure I have missed others this way. . . happens.
I got several when I was still playing, but they were all the crap weapons like skadge and GF sword... in fact i got two skadges... woot 450 dps legendaries lol
The problem is in your perception of what's good and what's not. The quicker you move past the color of an item and start looking at stats, the quicker you'll stop being depressed about everything.
I've found 3, all have been really garbage. I wasn't doing anything special either. All 3 on my monk who only has around 130~ hours of playtime and no MF set.

Right, because why in the world should the rarest items in the game be any good? They're just orange silly!

NOTE: These were all found with ZERO Magic Find gear
1st Legendary - Found on a dead civilian
2nd Legendary - Pile of goop on the ground
Set item - Spiderling
I still am yet to find one when farming with 5 stacks and my full MF Gear set.
Go figure..

I see no issue with the drop rates.
