How many other games have you played for 200+ hours and still enjoyed it the same way?
Valid question, regardless of if someone wants to argue about it.
My list of games that qualify based on the question:
Diablo 3 (inferred based on the question)
Diablo 2 + LoD
Diablo 1
Starcraft + Brood Wars (did not play competitively, mostly custom maps)
Warcraft 3 (same as SC, mostly TDs ... and the other popular map type, I never remember the "name" though)
World of Warcraft (Vanilla through Cataclysm)
EverQuest (Vanilla through Omens)
Final Fantasy 7
The Legend of Zelda
Ocarina of Time
Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball (I shit you not, my friends and I had so much fun with this game)
Goldeneye (if this isn't on your list you need to be punched in the groin!)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
So, going back to Nintendo days there are 13 games, including D3, which fit into that category for me. Two were MMORPGs with subscription fees, which I basically expect extended play from. Almost half (six) are Blizzard products. Six were console games, six were PC games, and FF7 was both (I owned the PC version, but I first saw it on PS). Four of them involved expansions.
So, in the past 20+ years, I can name a whole 13 games which truly entertained me for an extended period of time. The titles on that list did something that most games did not. None of them are perfect, but they all were something special to keep me that entertained for that long.
EDIT
I didn't include Wii Sports on that list for one reason. I did not personally play the game for 200+ hours. It was a social activity where many people were taking turns (there is no way that Wii Bowling is not one of the most addictive drugs on the planet) but I'd say that total play time on Wii Sports was in excess of 1000 hours easily, just split between many participants.
In no way am I saying this game isn't worth 60$. I got a good 170 fun hours of play out of it--well worth 60$! What I will say, and maybe some of you will agree to this, but this game did not live up to the expectations for a Diablo franchise entry. Diablo II had, in my estimation ~6 years of replay valuable. Diablo III, in its current form, has maybe a few months of reply value?
Hardly anyone played Diablo 2 for six years in the way you would play a multitude of other games - that is, every day for multiple hours a day, without taking what might be considered a significant break (weeks off, playing other games, etc, on a regular basis).
Almost everyone I know that played Diablo, and plays Diablo 3, either play it off and on as their sole game (taking days off to do real-world crap), or they play it in conjunction with other games. I personally swap between Diablo 3, Runescape (you read that corretly), and Arma2 with Dayz mod.
As someone else said, at 200 hours played you've paid approximately $0.30 an hour for that entertainment. Replaying the game at a few hours a week, or even month, for the next 5-10 years means you're paying almost nothing for game play.
The final point; This game did not live up to the expectations for a Blizzard/Diablo franchise game. Obviously, that's very opinionated, and if you disagree with this assessment that is fine, but just know you are in the vast minority.

When you have friends to play with, it's totally a new game. My friend and I are starting hardcore and the progression is awesome. Try to grab some people you know and have fun, even on softcore is great.
I'm at about 315 hours played...but time spent actually playing is drastically lower since i just leave diablo running a lot while i'm tabbed out or in the shower or doing any number of things. Anyway, for what it's worth i still find diablo enjoyable.
It's definitely not without it's faults, i am disgusted by the itemization system in the game, absolutely hate it. That said, it's still fun to just kill shit. I think it comes down to taking things in moderation, I think I maybe spend 60-90 minutes a night actually playing. All these kids who played 15 hours a day for 10 days straight and then piss and moan that they're burnt out on the game are just mentally deficient. There's nothing in this world that i could spend 15 hours a day doing that i wouldn't drive me insane with boredom by day 2.
The final point; This game did not live up to the expectations for a Blizzard/Diablo franchise game. Obviously, that's very opinionated, and if you disagree with this assessment that is fine, but just know you are in the vast minority.
I'm unsure how you can tout this statement as fact. Who are you to speak for the people who play the game? How are you able to tell if a majority love it or hate it? The truth is, most users who are content are very quiet about their enjoyment of a service or product. This is why many companies will send out tons of surveys and only get a fraction of them back. Most people will only say something when they are dissatisfied. If you look at the number of people who bought the game compared to the vocal minority that are complaining then it paints a totally different picture than you present here.
I'm not going to pretend I'm an authority who can say if the majority is loving or hating the game, it very well could be true, but my own opinion of the matter doesn't mean jack because I have no way to prove it.. one way or the other.
Looking at the majority of posts in this tread, however, I think you're slightly outnumbered in your opinion. I think at the end of the day my original point still stands, you're expecting multiple content patches and an xpacks worth of replay value in a base game that's just been released. Blizzard will be adding content in the form of patches and xpacks down the road, then and only then can you really compare the two.
The final point; This game did not live up to the expectations for a Blizzard/Diablo franchise game. Obviously, that's very opinionated, and if you disagree with this assessment that is fine, but just know you are in the vast minority.
I would love to see your official data on the matter, indisputably refuting the idea that more than a very small minority of players are still enjoying this game.
Near 300 hours and loving every bit of it. There's much more to come and the thought of what's in store for the future of this game keeps me excited and playing hard. I'll be playing for years, I'm sure of it.
The final point; This game did not live up to the expectations for a Blizzard/Diablo franchise game. Obviously, that's very opinionated, and if you disagree with this assessment that is fine, but just know you are in the vast minority.
Actually there has been no polling so that is just conjecture. I can't remember a blizzard title that didn't have forums 24/7 flooded with rage over something. If that is the case, those people are obviously entitled to their opinions, but they shouldn't be surprised when we (those still playing and enjoying the game) don't care.

A response to you and to the few others who question my assessment, which was me saying the game was a let down for a Diablo/Blizzard title;
Look no further than gaming website user reviews. Metacritic average user has scored the game 3.9 out of 10 with over 6,000 user reviews. Is that not telling enough? How about a quick visit to the general forums where there are dozens of polls with people unhappy. How about the fact that Blizzard has agreed that there is no end-game to speak of. Or the fact that Blizzard, a multi-billion dollar company is now caving in and asking what its fans would like in regards to MF because they have not the slightest idea how to deal with the issue. How about that Kripparian, perhaps the games most dedicated and outspoken player, continues to make YouTube video after YT video talking about broken mechanics in the game and how to try and work around them.
Listen guys, I'm not going to do your research for you, but unless you have your head in the sand, it is blatantly obvious that the majority of the people are not happy with the games current state and are concerned with its longevity.

Just don't go judging Diablo 3 v1.0.3 against Diablo 2: LoD at Patch v1.12+. There is kind of YEARS of development that made Diablo 2 as great as it was. It wasn't so amazing at launch or before LoD.
OT: I am at roughly 400 hours played, still on every day. Trying to get my Wizard's gear up enough to survive in Act 3 (Melee wizard, so don't just tell me to go kiting with Blizzard/Hydra, I hated the gameplay of it, and I despise being a glass cannon).
The final point; This game did not live up to the expectations for a Blizzard/Diablo franchise game. Obviously, that's very opinionated, and if you disagree with this assessment that is fine, but just know you are in the vast minority.

What is with this?
You can post all the reviews and studies and anecdotal opinions you wish....nothing you type will cause the masses of folks that love this game to suddenly not love the game. You're arguing from the position of anecdotal fallacy.
If you have any question about how many people love this game, and how much they enjoy it,...check out the RMAH and see how many folks are dropping real dollars for in-game gears.
Aside from that, there is no sense in you arguing that this game sucks in the direction of people that obviously feel otherwise.

Metacritic user scores - now there's an accurate read of opinions! And all 6,000 of them. Wooooooooooo.
I'll take the actual critic scores (that's an 88 for you, champ) since they tend to provide an objective review, rather than frothing at the mouth based on emotional responses to things not going their way.
Have you ever heard of the 10:2 rule? Do something negative, and people will tell 10 friends about it. Do something positive, and people will tell 2 friends about it. The rule applies here, as well. People are much more likely to give a bad review than to give a good review, based on nothing else except a desire to complain, rather than praise.
But hey, don't let the numbers you conveniently ignored to prove a point get in your way. Don't let the fact that people just like you continue to play despite "not having fun anymore." Just keep crying about it and making posts about it in an entirely non-constructive manner. That'll surely fix things!
Someone's got their head buried in the sand alright.

In this circumstance, with this type of game, using critic scores as a basis is idiotic. Critics and publications want to get their review out there first, to bring more traffic through their website. So a quick playthrough of the game, and they decide on a score. Nearly every score on metacritic was posted within 10 days times of the game being released, before the RMAH was even available, and before nerfs, before patches, before pvp, ect. So critics reviews tell very little in regards to the game late game, which is of my main concern.
That's like taking a mmorpg review seriously. Is it a good starting point to see if you should be interested in the game? Sure. Is it a concrete review that encapsulates the game? No, because there is constant patching, and its nearly impossible for a critic to experience the entire game in a weeks time, especially when the game is fluid and constantly undergoing change.

It's no less valid than using the opinions of 6000 forum trolls who want to exact holy vengeance against Blizzard.
In fact, in this case, I'd actually argue that the PROFESSIONALS have less bias than the haters who just... can't... let... it... go. I think it's time for Dae to come to this thread and explain why people rating D3 "0" out of 5, or 10, or whatever, are not to be taken seriously. Cause, you know, he's only done that in two threads so far.
Hell, I see a USER review that gave the game a 1/10 after just seven hours. I see another one that gave it a 0/10 within 24 hours. Hell, the first five reviews are 1, 0, 0, 1, 0... all within 24 hours. So I'm supposed to believe that those were people who actually gave the game a chance that the critics didn't?
It goes both ways, except the critics are just not retarded enough to believe that any game, unless outright unplayable, merits less than roughly a 3 or 4 out of 10. There is no way under the sun that anyone who gives D3 a zero is rational and not lashing out in anger.
