they just nerf drop rate of everyone just so that Blizzard themselves can sell stuff on RMAH just to suck more money out of you if you buy
if you don't buy, they don't care if you quit, since you already paid $60 for the game, they just want to say to you, "f u, k thx bye"
You do realize that Blizzard isn't selling anything. Players are. And no matter what the drop rates, people will always be wanting upgrades. And once you get to a certain point of awesomeness compared to what can drop, you'll be back in the same place of getting nothing good per 200 rares. And then you'll be buying from the RMAH just like now.
One of the devs actually talked about this, I think it was during the open question session on reddit. There's an exponential curve of current item level vs what can drop that governs just how likely you are to get new gear. Changing the gear drop rate just moves you left or right on the curve, but the curve is still the same - eventually you will get to the point where there is next to no chance of a better item dropping.
Oh, and Blizzard has admitted that the drops are too low. My guess is all the little changes (no items on destrictubles, chance on weapon racks, slightly lowered drops rates, etc) stacked up to make a bigger change then they intended.
Hmmm... what if they really nerfed the crafting costs? Just thinking out loud, but would people wind up willing to keep crafting gear until they found something that could sell for quite a bit on the GAH?
My 0,02 $ about Act 3 post 1.0.3 drops experiences.
I only farm act 3 solo or with 1 or 2 friends.
We usually sit on ventrillo and talk much while grinding elites.
Depending on time we have it is usually 3-4 hours per day during the week and 6-7 hours per day at the weekend.
It is enough time to kill 50-100 elite packs (we usually hunt for elites and clear most of the locations and azmodan).
90% of packs we swap gear to mf when finishing last elite mob to increase chances etc. (Everyone over 250MF+5 stacks).
We get loads, loads of yellows. Sometimes 3-4 yellows drop form each pack (5 yellows was record on 1 pack).
But guess what: 51ilvl, 55 ilvl, 58ilvl, 60ilvl, 57ilvi... If you get 2-3 63ilvls per hour you may consider yourself lucky. But good items drop, very rarely but they do. I sold many for 5 euros, few 15-20 euros and one kickass barb chest for 55 euros. Point is act 3 drops also 6 prop receipes, which are also worth a lot too. But the problem is not drops only, it is AH/RMAH too. There are tons of items on it, so if you put another average item, hoping for it to sell, you have no chance. AH/RMAH is flooded with crap items and shit aint selling. You have to be more picky of what you sell. If you dont have good items to sell, you have to be more patient and farm more and more or just buy them from RMAH.

This game's dead.
Oh, but they fixed leveling exploits and bears!
edit: now they've said they're aiming for 1.03b this week.
