Inferno was never meant to be a cakewalk. Even if I do agree with a majority of the people I have to agree that it shouldn't be too easy. I struggled myself to death to get to act 4 and I'm yet to try the patch (currently running the update for the EU server). However, I'm certain I'll have an easier time playing now because even if I died easily before the patch I could handle hits and I could kill things.
I can farm act 1 flawlessly and survive mobs in act 3.
However, due to being unable to test the patch, I'll only be able to deliver my full/accurate report after I play for a few hours when the servers come live again.
Well, as a barb, I'm still under geared, badly. Since I started playing (3rd day after the release), I've collected about 4.5 mil gold, spent about 1.5 of that in gear and my barb has: 800 resists, 10k DPS, 44k health, 1200 LoH.
I can farm act 1 Inferno. That is it.
1.0.3 came out, I tried to do A2, died a few times on champ packs, repaired for 15k a few times, lost gold on that o'course, found nothing worth of anything, and now I'm back trying A1.
I have the exact same feeling as you do. It seems to me that I'll be playing A1 for the next 6 months, until prices drop or something else changes, because I can't for the good of me make 100mil to spend on gear like some other folks do.
If it was not for gear in the AH, I would probably still be stuck in Nightmare.
How very odd... I also have 10k dps, about 45k health, but only 500 (buffed) resists, and like 100 LoH, and I'm finding Act 2 boringly easy... But holy crap some of these packs take a long time to go down... Wrath has been coming back up before they're dead... I'm actually going to try with the -30s CD on it, and switch my Leap out for Quake and see how things go...
Funny. Those who had given up on Inferno before are still whining, while my friends who thought it just needed a little tweak are happily farming Act 3 or 4 in the gear they used to do Act 2 in.
Good players adapt. Bad players whine. Figure out which one you are.
As a Monk with 840 resist all, 5.5k armor, 30k hp, and 100 LOH I used to be unable to kill a single elite pack in Act 3. I am now able to kill ~70% of elite packs without deaths. However, Hulking Phasebeasts + Fire Chains is just cheating... the moment they teleport on you you're dead, with no way to counter the damage. I'm shocked that they nerfed Morlu Fire Chains (Act 4) but not the Phasebeast Fire Chains.
Everyone's DPS went down significantly with the patch so stuff is taking a VERY long time to die in act 3. I think now that you can get Level 63 items in act 1-2, it's probably better to farm there.
the official forums are flooded with people quitting over 1.03
You mean throwing their toys around and threatening to quit because they think that if they throw a tantrum their mommy will make things all better. Real quitters don't whine on forums they just leave.
I like 1.03 and am really enjoying being able to farming decent gear in a reasonable timeframe by taking my chances with elite mobs instead of getting crappy gear from endless boss runs.
That's the bad news.
The good news is that this post doesn't exist (because everyone hates 1.03), and it's about a game that doesn't matter (because everyone's quitting) which is fine because it was impossible to beat (without spending $500 on the RMAH). Yay!
I hurried home from work today, skipping my tuesday night golf league after anticipating this patch all day. I log in and play for 3 hours to find this:
-nothing seems any easier in act 2(loss in dps offset lesser dmg/health pools)
-gold drops seem to be a ton less than previous
-even worse drops and fewer rares than before the patch(not one rare till 5 stack buff-and i had 124% without the NV buff)(and the few drops I did get were lvl 50-59)
-Hello 20-30k repair bills(makes no sense to farm anything-I lose more gold than I make, and the drops are even more terrible than before so I cant even sell anything on the auction house)
This is very discouraging, wishing I had the previous patch back. At least then after 2 hours of play I had something to show for my time even if it was 30k gold. Now I play for 2 hours and after vendering all the junk and paying repairs i have even less gold then I started with, which sucks because it seems the AH is the only way to get any decent gear because it sure does not drop for me.
In conclusion, I still cannot get past magda and now im even more broke then before, looks like ill put all my blizzard games aside for now:(
Is anyone else witnessing the same thing?
Yoyo! Well let me tell u the truth - buying/selling GOLD for real money in AH is going up soon - they increased the repairs so people would NEED to spend time to grind gold OR BUY GOLD FROM RMAH so that BLIZZ can earn money.
DO NOT think that blizzard is making the game for u to enjoy, rather for them to get money and make u hooked.
They reduce the drop rates = less uniques = more expensive AH = more money for blizz
Increase act 1 drops for medium items mostly = more medium/dps items in AH since more people can farm it = more money for blizz
They will keep adding OP items so people will buy it asap in AH and blizz earn money yet again tbh
AND if you look at the leaked info, the D3 expansion is already planned to be here next year.. = what? more money for blizz?
seriously cut the crap there is no secret conspiracy for us to buy money on the RMAH, if they would have want to do everything to make more money, wouldn't you think they would have made us pay to play eveyr month like wow? since it's online servers still need to be paid...
RMAH was NOT put ''so blizz could earn a little more cash'' thye put it there because of the whole lot of people did this with D2jsp, or other sites doing the same thing, some were not safe, by providing us a legal safe way to do it, people who WANT to do it can still do it, w/o fear of losing their account because of ban/theft. they take a share on it because it costs a lot of ressource to provide all the security around it so the share pays for it, and if they make some profit as well, it's just better. like I said if you really believe there is a conspiracy to make us buy money on the RMAH, you need to consult because your paranoiac..., if they really wanted to do this, simply decrease all the drop rates by a lot (including money) and disable gold auction house, this way people will NEED to use it...
on topic now, I do believe an increase in repair cost was necessary, but not by that much, now it,s ridiculous, after a full run of butcher farming (halls of agony lvl 1-2-3, cursed hold) with no death it costs me 4k to repair, one deaths costs me 6k... and after like 3 deaths (still far from being in the yellow) it's 14k, things were too cheap before, now they are far too expensive...
the repair cost changes are just fucking retarded.
also the IAS nerf is pathetic, and they didn't even buff bugged legendary IAS. so yeah, were kinda fucked. good job, thanks for ruining this game entirely, blizzard.
After the patch I ran:
(inferno - barbarian, solo the whole time,1h + shield, 5 stacks of NV built on all runs)
Act 3 - full battle gear - much easier than before, but drops still don't equal the effort and time required to kill those elite packs
Act 2 - 1/2 magic find gear - better balanced, only slightly harder than act 1 now. Fun mix of fast kills and decent drops.
Act 1 - full magic find run - faceroll. Tons of rares with 300mf (including the 5-NV)
Whimsyshire - full battle gear - Easier than it was, I killed most of the Elites when I could rarely before. They really nerfed the cloud drops. Not sure if it is worth the time anymore until I get better gear and can handle all the elites.
Best drop was a Wizard helm that sold fast for 1.7 million (too cheap?). It dropped off an Act 1 Treasure Gnome.
Overall I am happy with the patch, but would like to see less level 50 gear dropping from Act 3 Elites, since there is no chance any player at that level is going to equip it.
Ive beaten inferno, but I was actually looking forward to "better" farming. Well that was short lived, as it costs more to farm now. I think the repair costs are fine but the major hit should only hit if your gear is broken (red). It is fucking retarded to die 3x and have a 20k repair bill. It seems now I'm hitting enrage timers now, which I never hit before this god awful patch. They should have not touched the ias until the legends/sets got buffed first imo.
13k dps (15k with full frenzy)
8000 armor
800 resists
58k HP
Dual wield swords 750 dps, 785 dps (no shield)
1.0.2c: Farmed act 1 butcher runs over and over. Found it easy. Act 2 was hard but I got to belial and could not beat him solo. Tried it a couple times in public groups and got him once when we had a couple high dps mages.
1.0.3: Act 1 is a joke. Act 2 is more like Act 1 was in 1.0.2c. Belial is a joke now. His big attack in phase 3 brings me down to 80% health which a globe refills me. Except for the bomb phase, I just stood there and swung at him while drinking a coke. Phase 2 is a joke as he doesn't go range and shoot those three poison shots anymore. Looking forward to farming him for a week or so before I try Act 3.
Once I find some better swords in the 900 dps range, I'll try Act 3 and 4.
I like 1.03. There are probably a lot of other people that do too. You probably don't hear much about it because they're enjoying the game, not posting on the forums.
Okay, I'm one of those "weird" melee wizards, running around with Spectral Blades, a shield, and more health/armor/resists than some classes.

As of last night (pre-patch), I was able to kill Magdha (cake-walk fight), though it took some effort with some packs (even hit Enrage timer on one pack of champion Desert Wasps). As of tonite, I was able to easily break down pretty much every single pack I came up against. Some got the better of me at times (one or two deaths), but most I could drop without dying, and all before hitting Enrage. I went from taking 3-4k melee hits and like 5-6k shots from Wasps, to now only 2k melee hits and 3k wasp shots now. That is far more manageable. And elite/champion damage is far less brutal too.
Is the gold cost for repairs a bit higher? Yeah, it is. But honestly, it isn't that bad. Just realize that in the early parts of Act 2, there is very little around to break that will even drop gold. That part hurts. Was very happy with how much gold I got out of the Sirocco Cavern and The Ruins. More destructables, by far.
As to drops... I'd never had much for "amazing" items before. Was happy to find that 998 DPS 2H Mace today, here is hoping it sells. Is my first weapon to break the like 750 DPS mark.
I like 1.03. There are probably a lot of other people that do too. You probably don't hear much about it because they're enjoying the game, not posting on the forums.
^ Truth be spoken.
Those who are happy tend to go about their business and play their game. Those who feel they got a bone to pick are the vocal majority, but the stark minority of the playerbase.
And really... are people threatening to "quit" Diablo 3? It's not like you are cancelling a sub, when you threaten that at Blizzard.
320 hours player, didnt see any set item, looted 3 legendaries 2 of the on low lvl with crappy stat one of them on lvl 60 with value 20k gold, from whole farming of content(not bossed because they dont drop anything at all) I maybe had 2 items to actually use in my gear, I was using for farming 350% Magic Find gear, I also runned 10 times Inferno Pony lvl without even one good item, 60% items were even 50-59lvl with crappy stats as well....so I am sorry that I get frustrated and telling u something is wrong...
Hoho....

Yeah but it's a blizzard game so people promise to quit and boycott and twist their friends' arms until they quit if their IRL mail is 5 minutes late.

Alot of barbs forget that a highblock shield will get you much farther than just about any other upgrade you can get.
Happily farming the fuck out of act3 before and after the patch.

Actually, Act 1 can, but the chance of ilevel 63 is only 2%. Act 2 is 4%, and Act 3-4 is 8%.
