Ok so I double click diablo3 icon, i see it downloads a patch. I see the patch note and everything, patch is done, click "play now". I log in, tells me "theres a new patch available, will close to instal bla bla bla". I get a screen that says " diablo 3 is already running, then it closes everything.
I double click d3 again, log in, tells me theres a new patch again and I am stuck in this circle.
I tried rebooting my computer, samething.

What the f am I supposed to do now ? This has got to be the worst blizzard game ever made. This is what happen when a company grow too big too fast. Their products quality goes down the drain.
It means the servers are still down. Just because you can download the patch doesn't mean you can play right away. They still need to finish up maintenance on the servers which is scheduled to conclude at 11 PDT or roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes from the time of posting this. Be patient.
Guys, servers are still down. Even if you COULD download the patch you wouldn't be able to play so what exactly are you upset about? That you can't stare at the login screen? Give it like two hours when D3 comes up live for everyone and try again. I 100% guarantee you'll play Diablo 3 within the next 5 hours.
same thing here, I made a thread on the b.net forums(something I usually don't do) but this is an annoying error. Hopefully it's fixed quickly. All this and I have so far only played "single player."

We will be performing scheduled maintenance beginning on Wednesday, May 30, at 3:00 AM PDT and we expect the service to be available again at approximately 11:00 AM PDT. During this time the Battle.net servers and any online games will be unavailable for play.
Servers aren't done yet. I checked the debug log and the client is still being given the version mismatch error,
I'll bitch about the loop when the servers are actually up.
And any of you still bitching about the 'single-player online' thing need to put up or shut up. You knew for MONTHS that it would be this way *before* you bought the game.

That's for EU, yes. The current US one is supposed to end in an hour or so, if they got the estimate right. We'll see. I've been through a zillion WoW patch days, and I won't get all worked up for 11 AM Pacific yet.

Yeah sorry, forgot to edit the timezone XD. Either way, that's the message we can all see in the login screen so...

Mmmm-hmmmm. So if I tell someone I'm going to repeatedly kick them in the balls three months ahead of time they can't complain when the time comes for the ball kicking, right?

If you tell them that for the ball kicking you'll charge them $60 and they willingly pay it... no, they can't complain

If you pay for the ticket for it, then you really can't. If you decide not to buy the ticket and not show up, then you're good. You paid for the ticket knowing what was coming.

Yeah, the whole "I wanna just play single-player" when you knew back when... at LEAST as early as Blizzcon 2011 (so, late October) that it was online-required... REALLY now?
As to the game not working yet...
Maintenance set to end at 11am PDT.
That is 12pm MDT, 1pm CDT, and 2pm EDT.

Wow, you guys have been completely dominated by capitalistic culture. You are allowed to protest the status quo while still partaking in it. No wonder the government so easily holds people down. They could start taxing your oxygen intake and you guys would probably say, "oh, if you don't want to get taxed on breathing then just don't suck up all this precious air."

You bought the game knowing it was this way, and now you magically expect it to change? That's not Blizzard's fault. They're not responsible for your lack of planning and your wishful thinking. They never hid the fact that it would be this way, and, you supported them, too, by buying the game, same as we did. The difference is that you're whining about something you knew was there, and we're not.
If you wanted true single-player, then you should have not paid out your money for D3, and waited for Torchlight 2.

Guy high as fudge, comparing a game to oxygen and sh&t

To be fair, I am not gonna be surprised to see the majority of the PC gaming market go this route within the next 2-5 years. Wouldn't be shocked if consoles do too, in the next gen systems.
It is all to protect their intellectual property and product from piracy (as much as people will claim otherwise). When you can't play the game without verifying your copy online, it means that your product is genuine, and the company makes their money as it is entitled to them.

Another example of a defeated individual bending over for capitalism. Diablo II was online and single player, why can't this game be. Are you actually expecting us to believe that making Diablo III simply having the single player option was too much work for the best selling PC game of all time that they couldn't offer this to us so I could, oh I dunno, play the game when I wanted.
Yes, we knew it'd be online multi player but that's not a deal breaker. An analogy would be that if you wanted a care you would have to cut off your finger. Oh, they told you months ahead of time and you STILL bought a car?! You deserve it, right?
Don't bend over for corporate shenanigans like this. Something as basic as just having the simple option to play the game single player is not something that is asking way too much. If they could do it for D2 there's no way it is too cost prohibitive to do it for D3.
