this is the story: when i finally bought my 2nd Legendary Fist Weapon "Sledge Fist", i found out that i couldn't equip it because the system says "cannot equip more than one of this item".
WHY may i ask? i would like to know the rationale behind this rule! What is the reason??
I was surprised to see that Unique-Equipped was a thing in DIII. I dual wielded plenty of legendaries in DII.
Anyway, I suspect the reason for it is because of the mythology of the items. There's really only supposed to be one of each, so how would your character have two?

That's the dumbest rationale, I love lore and hate when it doesn't work, but sacrificing gameplay just because something said there was only one is ridiculous. I expect to be able to dual wield legendaries when I want because they are just an item. Useless to not allow it because of some lore, that almost 99.9% of people don't care about. I consider myself to be a lore buff for Diablo but the lore behind items is just for shits n giggles it should never limit a playstyle.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
I play games for the lore/ story BEFORE gameplay, and I know more people are like me than are like you. Lore does matter, and if there is only one of a legendary in the story then if I had 2 I'd be breaking the game in my opinion.
I have a feeling it has to do with age. It seems cool among kids these days to not care about story and its almost like its required for people to skip story scenes the first time they see them. I honestly don't get it. Story is what makes games fun first and foremost. Gameplay is usually second.

no it is not, especially in games like this were the story is an after thought and if it lore/story is so important to you shouldn't you be up in arms about how there is more than 1 per UNIQUE item in the entire game?
if there exists more than 1 copy than there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to equip both and in case you did not release why there are more than 1 copies of items in D3 it is because they are not unique items, they are legendary items.
thus more than 1 copy and thus reasonable to wear more than 1 at once
There isn't a problem when it comes to more than one being in the "world" as the lore of the game revolves around one of each class going about its business saving the world. There aren't 4 identical monks saving the world. One might argue this is in favor of having as many legendaries equipped as possible (the lore didn't stop us from playing classes) but in reality your hero is the one of that hero in the world. Having two uniques equipped WOULD go against that idea.
TBQH I hate to say it because its a shit situation you're in but... It does clearly state on the weapon unique equip. Its kind of a buyer beware market out there especially atm.
"I don't like this game system because it doesn't allow me to do what I want!!"
There could easily be balancing issues that are difficult to overcome or impossible to anticipate with allowing the same legendary weapon to be equipped twice at once. That's a perfectly reasonable game design reason.
thanks for the replies. sigh...
just to make things clear to everyone that its a rule applied for Legendary Items only...and to be more specific, its a rule applied to having another legendary item of the exact same one.
For example, i have 2 Sledge Fists. Both are legendary items. I can only equip one of it. not both
Another example, i have 1 Sledge Fists and 1 Demon Hand. Both are legendary items. i can equip BOTH.
sigh...i was hoping that i could get another Sledge Fists so that it makes my monk look like carrying stone boulders and rapidly punching monsters!!! and its the only legendary fist weapon that i know of that has the +0.15-0.17 attack speed instead of the % one. Fortunately, i was able to find an alternative, a legendary sword that has this kind of attribute too. ^^...although i still would want to make my monk look awesome. lol!!!
