I dont know how many people have looked at the blacksmith and jeweler, but they are EXPENSIVE. Not just to train, but also to craft. Leveling of the blacksmith costs 593,000 gold. some of his recipies cost upwards of 250,000 gold for a single item. the jeweler costs 140,000 gold.
Alot of people were thinking of going the route of pure RMAH to make money. Granted diablo is a game that throws money at you right and left, I dont think it will be like d2 where you hit max gold in only an hour or so, since you sink all of it in so much. from crafting, to upgrading, to increasing stash size, merchants, etc. I was a little worried the gold auction house would go mostly untouched. But after seeing the price of these items, I'm not as worried.
What do you guys think of the value of gold in diablo3? Can't say for certain until we're playing the game, but first glance? Will you use RMAH or GAH?

(this build was before D3 launched... looking back on it now - i had no idea what i was doing)
I think the value of gold is decent. Just in the beta I had a crap ton of extra gold, Like 20k extra after maxing the black smith and getting all the items I needed. And that is just level 13.
I anticpate using the GAH as both a buyer and seller, and the RMAH as a seller.
I think gold will be an arbitrage tool between the two, where folks will tend to list fewer higher priced things on the RMAH, and large volume trading on the GAH. That will make it feasible to sell gold itself on the RMAH, once an exchange rate is established.

I grew up gaming without internet forums. The entire phenomenon of being upset with a game developer makes no sense to me. No sense. I cannot imagine spending my time and energy being upset about something I choose to do for recreation.
I fully imagine on attempts to break into Inferno you're going to run out of gold on repairs and have to go back into Hell just to farm gold.
I bet you're right. Granted I made a crappy build in D2, but I reached a point where I had to farm easier levels just to afford filling up my inventory with heals.
Yea but I didn't even farm in the beta. Just did a play through. Gold is perfectly done, In my opinion
You might have been in a previous beta version. On the latest beta build at about lvl 8, after killing the skeleton King the 1st time, a typical player would not even have the 10k required to buy an extra inventory slot. It took me 2-3 skeleton king runs to amass the 10k required for my 1st inventory slot. So gold (at least initially) is going to be an issue. And if you plan on crafting with your first character, you'll need to either farm or not spend on anything.
