In an attempt to position my group of friends to be at similar levels going into the weekend, I have put a good amount of time trying to assimilate all available information regarding "Rushing" another player through the game and while there isn't a boatload of great information (and I wish I would've gathered more data during the Beta), here are my numbered conclusions with my assumptions following.
1) The greatest gap to allow in a game between friends is 7 levels. (e.g. level 30 and level 37 in a game with level 37 mobs).
- The level 30 will gain the same amount of XP killing a level 37 as a level 38.
- As the level gap between two players increases, the lower level character gets less XP (if the level 37 dings 38, the XP gained by the level 30 will be noticeably cut.
2) It will take roughly 1 hour per level ON AVERAGE until level 50.
- Most Blizzard games have a linear increase of time necessary to complete each level.
- Other checkpoint estimates are:
11 hours to level 21 (~30 mins per level);
16 hours to level 29 (38 mins/level);
24 hours to level 38 (~1h per level);
32h to level 43 (~1.5 hours/level);
46h to level 50 (2h per level)
Eh...without getting really gritty into your numbers it feels really under-estimated. From beta experience the ~30mins / level is low even getting up toward 9-12. Obviously the first couple levels go quickly and will average down the longer numbers, but not -that- severely. I don't think it's off by a huge margin I just think it 'feels' low. 11 hours to 21....Hmm. I'm just not sure about that.
This kind of theorycrafting feels a bit ill-advised until we have more actual data to work with.
Well, assuming an hour and a half to reach level 8 (which is pretty easily doable), that leaves 9.5 hours to reach level 21.
Unfortunately I didn't do the 1-13 run a whole lot... just a lot of 1-8, so I don't remember good timing for 8-13.
pretty sure it takes ~30min to get lv 8, and around 2hrs to get level 13 in the beta of WHICH is not good to level to 13 in because the xp falls off quickly since you are over the level of the mobs.... so the first 30levels i bet is doable in ~5-6hrs tops if played efficiently

Well we should be level 30+ by end of normal if you don't rush everything. Normal is expected to take 6-10 hours. 6 being a real rush, 10 being a real slow grind. Id say 8 hours is a good point to be at for end of normal, so expect to be 30+ in 8 hours.

Any chance of a source on how long Normal is supposed to take or any leads where I could find this info?
End of Normal = level 30 is widely known and agreed upon, but I hadn't seen the 6-10h projections.

Exactly. Without being fed any + exp gear, it took me on average 3 hours to get to level 13 from level 1, and that's completing the beta quests to the SK, then farming the SK non stop.
Edit; Plus have you seen the chart of the exp numbers taken out of the game guide? It jumps DRAMATICALLY when you hit level 50. Like it suddenly takes like 3x the exp if not more to go from 50-51 than 49-50. It's not linear.

Yeah, I was only estimating the time to 50 because it's pretty hard to get a grasp on what level 51+ looks like in regards to time per level.
you guys arent taking into account that after lvl 8 your losing XP in the beta from 8-13 because your out-leveling the mobs and havign to kill A LOT more mobs to gain the same amount of xp as you would with less mobs of the same/greater level which will be the case when going through the real game. also i plan to stack full XP gear and dmg rings/ammy/doll all the way through nightmare to make the game and leveling go as fast as possible. so 1-45~ should be able to be accomplished with 1 full day of marathoning. ~18 hours. we will find out wednesday morning when i post my first day results

Yeah, agreed 100% in regards to the point about outleveling Beta.

Here is the problem:
You and all the "We can make 60 in 30-60 hour" people all assume that the leveling rate is going to stay the same.
Blizzard has told us repeatedly that you will probably get ass kicked a lot in Nightmare and up, slowing you down. XP doesn't vastly increase as difficulty does, so if you are getting your ass kicked, you actually end up slowing down a LOT taking longer to level.
I wont make predictions because ultimately, we don't know yet and it will all depend on how hard Nightmare and Hell really are.
The only thing we DO know is that it has taken developers about 25 hours on first play throughs and between 15-18 hours on second and up runs.
Of course, everybody assumes that going through Nightmare and Hell will just be faster. For all we know, it takes 3 times longer.

blizzard over-hypes the difficulty of ALL of their games. they always have, and always will. why? because it gets people HYPED derp. for all the D2 veterans we know that it will not be even close to as hard or take as long as they are trying to make it seem. it just wont. for the AVERAGE player, yes. but the average player also sucks lol.
also people who claim that 50/60 hours thing are calculating that most of that time IS in fact spent in hell with the first 15-20 hours getting there because of how stupid-easy normal and NM will be just as it is in D2.

personally i think the best thing you can do is to level as quickly as possible regardless of whether or not your friends keep up. Exp aside there's alot of benefits to hitting higher lvls quickly. You'll be able to help your friends through nightmare and hell alot easier if you were able to farm up gear for your level. Also, in regards to RMAH the first month of the game will be the best time to find and sell gear on the RMAH. If you have the time to level quickly i'd recommend to do so. If your friends want help then by all means give it to them but you should probably talk about the benefits of leveling fast regardless if you get to play together. You'll get to play together when you hit 50+.
Edit: let me just add. One of my friends doesn't really have a real job. kind of a trust fund baby if you know what i mean. He doesn't plan on sleeping till he beats atleast nightmare and i'm serious, if it takes him 48 straight hours he's going to stay up. I probably won't get to play with him till i hit hell. but on the bright side if he finds a nice rare for a barb he'll save it for me ^^

I hear the beta is how the game is when it goes live...

Did you happen to actually read my post? Because I specifically laid out how I assumed the rate was going to change.
Most of it, might of missed a few paragraphs.
