The majority of games I've played tend to have players hit max level on the first playthrough not the third. Content set before the max level also tends to cater to more casual players. As such do you think that Inferno may be incredibly hard but everything up to Hell may not be that difficult. In all honesty I've never played a game on more than two difficulties(and two only in my favorites) and yet find myself expecting to play through Hell in D3 because the gameplay seems planned to end there since skills do. I will probably play through inferno since I expect to love D3, but I'm wondering if people think there's any credence to the theory that while Inferno may be extremely difficult everything up to hell may not be out of a casual player's reach, causing the jump from Hell to Inferno to be huge?
Looking for discussion on this.
Side Topic: When will less optimized builds stop being viable. i.e. can you be a melee Wiz in late Hell.

Trolls, just go outside and play
because we don't care.
Playing completely on HC, I very well see myself hitting 60, but never completing Hell.
I think Hell will be very tough for people, and Inferno just rediculously difficult. And that's not me being hopeful, just the impression I've been given by developers.
As for less optimal builds, I assume they'll become unweildy by late Nightmare or early Hell.

I think you are wrong , hell WILL be difficult . Id say we can compare this to D2 . In D2 hell was pretty hard unless you had uber gear .
When you had acess to uber gear hell was trivial but uber tristram was still a challenge even for the best of the best geared player ( minus smite pally with very good gear ) .
Hell will be trivial with inferno gear but inferno will always be a challenge ( well at least the 2 last act ) . But hell will stil be very hard at first and will require a decent amount of nightmare .
ITs all speculation but i very much doubt that hell will be casual , most casual player wont even get past nighmare .
I think you'll find the increase in difficulty is a pleasant surprise. No one can really know until it has been played obviously but i would be surprised if Inferno was the only challenging difficulty.

Personally I think less optimal builds will become unusable sometime in hell. Might be sooner though.
