Agreed. I live in the Central Time Zone so I will be going to the midnight release so I can play when servers go live. I will not wait two hours for the encryption to go out and then another two for installation.

I don't always burn. But when I do, I use hellfire.

You'll still have to download the same stuff as everyone else.

But there is no encryption of the physical copy. So I can install right once I get home. And I might even be able to play on one of the other regions while waiting for the US servers to go up. But don't trust me on that last part. I am not even sure if you can play on another region early with the physical copy.

Are you sure that you can install it from a retail copy before midnight? If that were the case...I'm more than positive that the game would have already been data-mined.
A few weeks ago i kind of lost my excitement for the game, i was looking forward to play it, but i wasn't in a rush to start playing at 00:01, was gonna pick up a physical copy in the morning, but now the hype is building up again, ill just buy it digitally and start playing at midnight

And your reason for believing there is no encryption on the retail version is....?
God people will argue about anything. Your own statement explains why you're wrong.
1.) The game has been data-mined.
2.) Because the discs aren't encrypted.
There's no encryption on the retail copy. Why would there be?
No Blizz release before has ever had encryption on the physical disk. Every pre-download installer has, it's a way to prevent pirating and such.
There's a blue post that states it'll take about as long to install from pre-download installer as off the disc because the pre-download will need to decrypt and the disc will not. This was in direct reply to me asking if I should pre-download and then put my hard box key in to save time on release night and avoid patches. Turns out, the pre-download people will have the same exact patch time, because they aren't updating that installer until release.
Since I live on EST, I'll probably sleep early on the 14th and wake up at like 5am on the 15th. I'll miss the first 2 hours but at least I'll be fully rested instead of starting to fall asleep at 3am.
You're both wrong. Bashiok told me otherwise. You can install the game before the launch, and trying to log in will give you a message. In effect, you're arguing with what a blue told me, so I'm just leaving it at that.
I'm one of those people who had the SCII disk before release, along with everybody else int he Central time region. You could install the game, but not log in until 12:00 PST. Deal with it. The disc isn't encrypted.
The discs have been data-mined. Believe it or not, the entire game has been leaked in full, and completely cracked. There are people running around in Act 4 without any enemies (because Blizz streams the enemies and tables). Pretty sure the disc is the only way they got the complete game data to crack. It's the best DRM you could conceive.
I'm not sure you understand what encryption means.
Oh hey look, I friggin found it:
but! getting the client should be free right?, why cant we CE users like download the client, pickup the CE we orderd, register the key and play asap? skipping the install/download bits.
In our tests for StarCraft II and Cataclysm the un-encryption of the client takes about as long as an install from the disc, so I don't know how much time you're really saving. Maybe, though! It's worth a shot I suppose.

Generally the sort of claim you follow with a source.
guys guys guys. the whole point of blizzard making diablo 3 entirely online is so that they can control who goes online when. if you get the physical copy early, sure, you can probably install the full client before people with digital downloads, but you wont be able to get online or play the game at ALL because you cant log on!
now, quit arguing please and just post stuff to distract me from the clock
I sure hope you live on the west coast then.
boo ya!

To keep people from installing before Blizzard wants them to like with the digital.
Shocking concept, I know.
*gasp*
you bastard!
