European servers cover smaller number of timezones right? Maybe it was harder to make it fair for everyone using US servers. And considering that Blizzard is quite a large company, which has no interest in favoring one customer over the other, in fact they favor all their customers the same, because they want profit, which cant be made without as much customers as possible. So maybe this was the most fair solution?
Edit: Also we should consider that time is relative. They could have just released the servers at the exact same time across the planet, but then they would start playing at midnight in Japan (example), which is fine, but in Alaska there would be actually almost... yesterday... wow, time-traveling is easy, just cross the date-line mutliple times within 24 hours and you travel into the past! Someone call the Dr. Who, this is confusing.
Also did you know that time is running slower the faster you are traveling (for you)? So the plan is to hop in to the spaceship today, travel to Mars for example at extreme velocity, return back to Earth. For you, only lets say 20 hours has passed, but it would be weeks on earth! So, actually, there IS a way to play Diablo 3 tomorrow, if you have the money... and can survive the extreme acceleration.
Actually, you would need to be traveling at 0.9986139979479093 times the speed of light to get a time dilation of 19 to 1, and you would need 117.82 days on 3 Gs of acceleration to attain that speed, and another 117.82 days on 3 Gs of deceleration to stop again. So even theoretically possible technology couldnt get you the game tomorrow
All you really need to do is jump into a wormhole that travels past the sun at the exact time a solar flare is occuring in your path. Now you just need a wormhole generator.
I don't really understand why it matters so much for some people. I will be playing Diablo 3 at the same time I was playing Starcraft 2 and Cataclysm and Wrath, etc: 3 AM EST.
The time that other people may or may not be playing on the other side of the world is not relevant to me.

Wrath was 12 AM EST, unless you got home way way way way late =P

All will be fine no worries.
U.S. survival just requires the following:
*Unplug your modems.
*Lock your windows and doors.
*Turn off T.V.
*Put blanket in the corner
*Get tissues
*Sit on/in blanket
*/cry for 8 hours
*Plug modem back in
*Go to www.diablofans.com
*Realize there is a news story about someone beating inferno in under 8 hours with full recaps/screenshots/cinematics
*Realized you just wasted 8 hours of your life crying in a corner just to have the entire story spoiled in under 2 seconds.

Ah, that's true. I actually used the leaked client DL and bought a CD key in advance through one of the less than reputable sites out there and was ready to go at 12 AM EST.
@Aerisot: I'll just make sure to be asleep the whole time
I'm not mad about them getting it earlier, but I am going to be pissed if their servers are not stable by the time it releases in the US. I will be pissed because they will try and fix the Euro servers before attempting the US servers.
1. dial the right battle net address ----> eu/us battle net
2. log with your account
3. change your living location, choose somewhere in europe
4. pre order D3
5. download
6. wait for the eu servers to come up
7. stress/crash them
profit??
Cant change living country (at least without contacting support I think) and then you get the wrong RMAH and need to switch back if you want the US RMAH.
You can create a new account saying you live in EU however, you will still need to switch to US after.
So, as I understand it... the USA digital download version requires a USA server to initially unlock, but the retail boxed version can be installed and played on ANY server worldwide. Therefore, any pre-order retail copies that happen to arrive on the 14th can be played on the Euro server from the USA for a few hours before local start. However, any character progress made would not apply to a USA server account.
Entire server firsts on WoW were handed over to Euro guilds mostly due to them having early releases. Meanwhile, some of you guys are butthurt because Euros will be entering a non-competitive PvE grind slightly faster than you. OH NOES!!!!
I'm more worried about the people that will regret getting sick as early as May 16th. "Man! I could have been at work making money! If only I didn't come down with that cold and end up being disappointed.... er... i mean... sick!"
I remember having things I had to deal with the first few days SC2 was released, so I couldn't play the game immediately, nor really report any fansite news about it. Fortunately, I lived. Unfortunately, the ending was shit on spaghetti.
I hope Diablo 3's overall single player experience is as good as SC2's. I'm not expecting too much when it comes to story immersion though.

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
I don't mind Europe being ahead - I just would like to play the game at my ACTUAL midnight, not 2 or 3 am. I doubt it's possible for Blizzard to launch it in individual US timezones...oh wait, every other game that comes out does that exact thing (I KNOW - not every game has a digital version, etc etc - LET ME WHINE!) Oh well, que sera sera.
Is anyone even reading these posts? I have yet to see someone upset about EU getting to play sooner then then the US time zones. I see more players upset about waiting until 3am to play the game in est. I could care less if the EU server get 24 hours more play time then us, but waiting until 3am is making me rage. I guess its one more release push back for est, from 12:01am to 3:00am.
i'm lucky that i work graveyard shift and will sleep through most of monday. i don't normally wake up till about 8-9pm so thats only a few extra hours i have to wait to play and i'll spend that stocking up with food and drinks
I planned ahead for this being in Pacific Timezone, which is 1 hour ahead of EST and booked vacation starting on the 14th instead, so I can have time to prepare for the 4AM release.
Any REAL hardcore D3 fan will be asleep before the game is released.
Can't read spoilers if you are asleep!

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"
Just moved to EST from CST. I miss CST as the timing was better for everything. The great thing is that I have a very long workday on Monday, so picking up the game at midnight, installing, and going to bed for an hour will be glorious before I embark on my 120hr vacation.
