The only reason people are so upset over the changes is because of the huge gap between the two games. Gaming has come a long way since the release of DII, mechanics have evolved, some have died out. They've had time to distill the parts of the game they didn't like and improve on the ones they did.
Well I can see why they're afraid, after all, Blizzard are doing some radical changes. And changes are scary I admit.
That said, this is Blizzard we're talking about. They're responsible for World of warcraft, Star-Craft, Warcraft and the Diablo franchise. And The Lost Vikings, of course.
I know that these games, and even D2 wasn't made by the same exact employees, but this is still the same company that gave me, and you, so many great titles, and so much fun over the years, that I just don't understand where this antagonism is coming from.
I really find it amazing how often forum heroes think they know how to make a game better than Blizzard--a company that has had more critical and commercial success than any game development studio in the world. Sure, the exact same team that made D2 isn't working on D3, but the success of an organization has much more to do with the culture instilled in the company by the creators and the management than by the individual game designers or artists.
Seriously people, Blizzard is freakin smart. That's not to say they're infallible (See: B-net 2.0) but it's pretty clear they are DAMN GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO.
I'll continue trusting them if they fix the skill UI.
If they take what is clearly overwhelming support for a better UI and ignore it, then they will have lost me as a loyal customer.
Loyal.... ya right. "Blizzard fix this one little thing and make it exactly how i want it, or you lost me as a loyal customer." What a joke. If you are ready to flame blizz over a skill ui and be "lost as a loyal customer" than u arent anywhere near a loyal customer in the first place.
The skill UI is not even that big of a deal. Be real bro
Change is scary, there will always be people that are resistant. New ideas will always be challenged, people must understand this, Blizzard does. You don't stand out by doing what everyone else is doing, you do something different.
Lady Gaga (which I hate) made it to where she is today by being different and radical. Blizzard is the Lady Gaga of the gaming industry.
EA is like.....I can't come up with a good celeb, Tom Cruise?
Either way, Blizzard is gonna make you eat Diablo 3, and LIKE it.

"The Unchosen" Pain of Admirance Sigil (For those without -Feat of Strength-):
I trust them to:
- Deliver me a good game, free patches with good support and no DLC garbage
I do not expect them to:
- Not think about making a profit first when designing their game
Now now, dont be naive bro.... expect new revenue models from blizz. The rmah is just the begining.
Yeah... so you just called me naive for no reason or you failed to read the double negative.
My post wasnt even about your double negative. Who uses double negatives anyways. You are still being naive
Yeah so now your just trolling or you disagree with me hoping to have a great game with free patches and no DLC (which is already true, well "great" is subjective). Yeah right moron.
I'll continue trusting them if they fix the skill UI.
If they take what is clearly overwhelming support for a better UI and ignore it, then they will have lost me as a loyal customer.

I'm not a mindless zealot that will defend Blizzard to the death so if that's what you consider a loyal fan, then you're right, I'm not loyal. I do own seven Blizzard games including a couple of collector's editions so you need to frame your argument differently.
Your angst is misplaced anyways. It's not the skill UI that's the issue. It's the deleting of and ignore of threads and the constant back pedaling on decisions that they presented as exactly what they wanted (ex: simplifying the stats, then changing them back to how they originally had them & claiming using large portions of the screen and covering the character were bad UI design). Of course, now that they are doing that last part, they'll pretend they never said that and that it's actually good to use up most of the screen with a clunky UI. It's not, but they'll give some asinine reason for doing it that way (ex: making it easy for six year olds or difficult to swap skills during combat). Neither of which needed the new UI to accomplish those goals.
Look, I'm not going to get into it with you because I know it won't be worth my time. Enjoy your day.
I think Blizzard's more worried if they can trust we really love them like noodles and we'll buy their game + use the RMAH, bringing them enough profit to make it worth their work. People like/believe or not, Blizzard's not stupid to never listen to fans' expectations and make a bad game, they need the money to feed little Susy, damn it!
For me (and most people, I presume)? If the game shows up a disappointment, yeah, it'll suck, but the worst that can happen is wasting money in a bad game and getting somewhat frustrated with all the anxiety I had until then. But then I'll wake on may/16 and play something else.
But for Blizzard, oh God, bad things would happen.
many studios lost their passion to make great games and then revenue will come anyway and keep doing the tried and true formula (look at CoD) so i respect blizzard for trying something new, i wont buy it if i don't like it though...
besides i got kicked in the quads too many times from different studios that ruined their sequels so i personally treat all gaming studios per piece now, yet CDPR, Blizzard and Valve still have a little bit of extra trust.
also i noticed that i play too many indie games lately (like bastion, to the moon, limbo, terraria and many more) they feel like fresh air to me.
TL;DR i kinda trust blizzard but them keeping my trust depends on each game they make.
Spider-man 1 and 2 and even 3 were pretty decent movies (3 could have left some parts out) Sam Raimi did an amazing job bringing spider-man to the big screen, so much so that they wanted to makea Spider-man 4, and then all of a sudden, something happened..something went wrong that whole team left and left Sony high and dry over petty creative differences. So now Sony brought on a whole new team for a reboot of Spider-man! but you know what, no matter how good it may be, it will always be compared to the orginal spider-mans.
My point is, Diablo 3 has the same producer (Blizzard), but a different Director (Jay Wilson) and team, D3 will always be compared to the huge success of the first 2, but will never be exactly like them.
So I'll leave you all with my closing words, take them how ever you want, I'll live and die by these words.
It is not about the style in which it is presented, It is about the story and characters that are represented.
I trust them to make good/great games and evolve their games system/s as well.D1 to D2 was a big jump, and D2 to D2:LoD was a jump, now D2 to D3 is a big jump, no problem.
People don't want to make the same game over and over, they want to do new things. It's a job and they want to make money, but there is still fun to be had, doing new things, evolving their process, evolving systems, play style, mechanics. I'm happy with all the changes, I know after a little bit of time I will have adapted to any "negatives", although I do not see any.
Yep. I trust them. They've never made a bad game, and the way they move forwards in their development has always made sense. IMO they're the only game company worthy of any kind of trust, because they take the time to get it right rather than setting arbitrary dates and sticking to them.
well i do trust them, and i even back them up on all the changes they do, they are 99% for a vary good reason. there is a few things i whis they changed but hey, one cant make everyone happy in the gameing industry :I
Trust that Blizzard, as a game developer, will continue to develop good games? Well I would have to say yes I trust that logic... if not, they probably won't be around much longer, right? Blizzard has a huge fan-base and they have created some very good games over the years... they've spent years developing Diablo 3, trying to make it appealing to all sorts of gamers... I trust that they made a good game... and if they didn't, then oh well, I'll play it for as long as I can, then move onto something different?
People upset about Diablo 3 looking or feeling different than Diablo 3 has to realize that it is 12 YEARS we're talking about... you can't have the same product, it would fail miserably.
Let me give you an example... Duke Nukem 3D released in 1996 vs Duke Nukem Forever 2011.. Took them 15 years to make the new one, and it sucks. Wanna know why? Because they took something successful in the 90's, and tried to re-create the same thing almost 2 decades later, that just doesn't work... same corny 90's punchlines too. haha.
I'm probably one of the few that actually appreciates Diablo 3 for evolving from Diablo 2... I don't really want to play Diablo 2 anymore. Thank-you Blizzard for making Diablo 3! Not Diablo 2.5

That location sounds about right, I would definitely have absorbed that and lost its source; thank you for the clarification.

This simply isn't true. It's just what haters say.
I'm going to use Spider-man as an example.
