Since this is new content in D3 than in previous Diablo's, what are your thoughts on Followers? Are you going to use them? Are they going to be effective and useful?
Personally I'll be rolling a Monk and I'd love to have a support Enchantress in the back casting on packs, buffing me, and dealing some damage as I run through the Acts. But this leads me to some questions, how will Followers work in parties? Will they count as a party member in the group of 4 or will they be excluded? And if your playing HC with a Follower and they die, are they gone for good as well?
Also with Followers having there own skills and the equipment you can give to them (plus own unique equipment) I believe they will be very effective, especially if you plan on solo playing. Even though I feel like Followers have been getting a bad rep lately, I'm trying to get the opinions of everyone else, what do you guys think?
When I played the Beta I almost always found myself declining the follower invite. I don't know, I just really like going it alone I guess. I doubt I'm going to be using them much if at all come launch.
I'll be disappointed if they are a required meatshield, but I highly doubt they will be.
Followers cannot join parties, they are available only in SP and you can have all of them in town but select one at a time to follow you in battle.
Since I'll play mostly SP I'll use them, but they are not there for dealing a "ton of damage", but to do some tanking and buff you.
Still they will be fun.
I'm look at the enchantress skills atm, she's got a skill called Forceful Push. A 10 second CD that deals 200% damage and knocks back all enemies, will be good for sticky situations to be sure.
I can see followers being helpful, not required. Thats If, you take the time to level it and give it decent gear.
Well to be honest, I really only want to use the Enchantress. And as the Acts progress I believe you unlock the different Followers, when you unlock them its quite possible they'll be an equivalent level as you or near as. Even though, playing through the Acts with your Follower all the time will be just the same? But decent gear brings up a another question. Will monster packs also drop gear for your Follower?
I'll be abusing the hell out of followers while my friends are offline. Thats pretty much gimping yourself in inferno if you don't. Have yet to decide which one I'll take with my barbarian yet.

Followers damage has been nerfed in previous patch. Templar cannot kill anything on his own in beta right now (on same level).
Check Molster article in home page. (Forceful Push now deals 100% wpn dmg/ radius reduced to 8 yards)
There was a blue stating that followers are intended to act as buffs to you, I'll try to search for it again.

Q: Was wondering if followers are still viable at Inferno Difficulty? My Templar 2.47 DPS with a 8 DPS weapon, Sorry that's 2.72 DPS with a 13.9 DPS weapon. A: followers are not an awesome source of damage. They provide good tanking, buff, and debuff options
They still will be useful, and maybe with the right gear they will deal some good damage.

Is it her weapon damage or your weapon damage? cuz, remember, her damage is like 1/4 of the weapon you have her equipped with. Also, I'm pretty sure that is no longer 200%. It's probably a lot lower now.
To me it feels, that NOT getting a follower is simply gimping yourself. At blizzcon they said they want followers to only be viable during normal mode playthrough, but they've changed their mind and now they seem to be a big part of single player progress. I just hope their AI will be decent at higher difficulties. You get % share of their stats, buffs from them and other utility such as taunting or healing from templar's beta. Good to have one
This really, if you're playing single player, there's no reason whatsoever not to use it. It's simply extra damage done to monsters and he'll possibly tank damage for you thus less damage taken. There's no negative sides whatsoever, only positives. Not using them is effectively gimping yourself.
If you don't care about that and just play for fun and find the follower gets in the way of your fun somehow (you find it annoying for whatever reason) then yeah sure, don't use it.
Really, the negative side of having some AI mob following me around that I don't want there is a large enough negative that I've no interest in playing with a follower despite their (currently negligible) damage and their effectiveness as a meat shield.
i think it would be great if we could use them in a party.... loved mercs in d2 = )
but..you never know, if there''ll be continued huge demand for that after release, we might see it happening.... maybe in a patch or in an expansion?
i also think it would be great if we could be able to PvP with them later on (maybe also a feature for a patch or an expansion)
someone in this thread said that we'll be able to have all 3 followers, but when we leave town we'll have to pick one, is that true?
i always thought you had to decide and could only have one.... but if you can have all 3 and switch between them.. (example: "hmn... i guess i'll pick my templar for this quest/act, and for the next quest/act i'll go with my scoundrel") i think that would be great !!
especially if they should ever become usable for multiplayer !!
then i could definitely see myself making sure that all 3 followers of mine will have great equipment later on and switch between them all the time (if its possible to have all 3 of them?)
otherwise you could use them as extra space... holding some of your gear : )
PS: can you give them names? do they already have a name? (random?) or are they just called "templar" etc?
thanks in advance
You'll be able to get all 3 of them as you work your way through the acts, and they all stay at town for your choosing wherever you want to go. As for there names, I don't think I was able to change the Templars name while in the beta so I doubt it.
Admitedly these buffs are not game breaking but I don't feel they're negligible. Why would you not want to have one of these buffs?
EDIT:
Spelling
True, the buffs they give are beneficial, I just don't like having a mob like that follow me around. I want to go it alone without having a follower. It's a personal preference, nothing more.
