I am excited! I think they should be able to made without a lvl 10 character though, don't really see the point in making people who wish to play only hardcore mode level a character to 10...nobody new to the game is going to start off with a hardcore character I would imagine.
Would somebody be nice enough to elaborate as to why HC is such a big deal?
Hardcore is basically for the badass gamers who like to have a heart attack. basically, you die... you die permanently. No reset, no spawn-in-town, your character and whatever was on him is gone. Sort of like realistic D3. Fortunately you do find better loot in hardcore mode, but you cant trade with non-hardcore characters.
Edit: Also cant say Im too excited.. more depressed. no beta means no hardcore for me until game comes out which should be sometime next year...

Blizzard used to care about releasing Diablo III, then they all took an arrow in the knee...

Don't think you get better loot in Hardcore. Think your refering to "Inferno".

But you can't be certain that someone wouldn't accidently select the option or deliberately select "hardcore" who are new to the game and the diablo series for that matter. Only to die and not be able to return, would suck if you we're new and would be confusing. Im assuming the level 10 thing is just to get people used to the interface and the game in general. Assigning skills, movement, feel of the game, etc
I'm not a big fan of HC, but I would like to see how it is in D3. I personally am waiting for another wave of invites after patch 14 (maybe next week).

It's really a different game when you play hardcore. I had a lvl 92 HC zon and several level 80 HC ladder characters in D2 .09 and I speak from experience when I say you look at every situation with extreme caution. You never charge in without a plan, and nobody (aside from other HC players) is as fast as you at pressing "Esc" when exiting a game to save your skin, lol. It is EXCITING, but not for everybody I imagine.
Imagine this, you're an MF sorc teleporting your way through Durance of Hate for some meph runs, but you mistakenly teleport onto a pack of imps and your block % isn't the greatest. Suddenly, you're loosing 1/3 of your HP per enemy swing, and they're swinging FAST. You barely have enough time to hit Esc and select to exit the game, as the game freezes for brief moment before returning to the lobby screen, you notice that your HP bauble has a sliver of red left in it. You have to wonder to yourself, did the server register a last, killing blow on your character before you were able to leave and your client side registered the final hit? (It can happen). You return to the lobby screen and your character is intact and not a hooded silhouette. You lived.
THAT to me is what makes HC worth playing. No other videogame will make you jump like that IMHO.
Hardcore has nothing to do with gear, besides the fact that you lose it all if you die. Not my idea of fun.
To each their own. I think it's amazing when you're faced with consequence. There are no blatant, wreckless actions the player can afford to make. You play cautious or you die, is that simple. That's why it completely changes the feel of the game. Play to survive, and it's so rewarding after you've made it.
Played my share of software prior to HC though. Different strokes for different folks. After playing HC I was hooked. The only downside to it for me was the lack of PvP because of the nature of the game.
I started playing D2 Hardcore after the D3 Beta got stale. I love the concept and the community, but it's just not for me. I've only lost a handful of sorcs, with some nice high level characters still going strong in Hell & Ubers, but there's just way too much "WTF WAS THAT, HOLY CRAP NOW I'M DEAD!" spike damage in D2. If you're careful and play smart you shouldn't die, but even then, there are nearly broken mechanics that will end your life in an instant regardless of how godly your gear is if the RNG gods are against you (vipers, soul killers, glooms, extra strong/fanatacism uniques). I have a feeling D3 will be very similar in that respect.
I can totally understand what a rush that can be for some folks, but I rather play a bit more casual, and not be punished so severely for going a bit reckless now and again. I'll play both, HC is great once the luster of softcore has worn off, but to jump right in- not for me.

PS. Expect a video covering Hardcore Mode soon.
Never played Hardcore mode.

BOOM! Jokes.
I dislike the idea that I can lose tons of hard work because of a small game glitch or Internet issue.

You may find better loot in hardcore... in diablo 2 you did.
That's not true. Diablo II SC/HC was exactly the same aside from the ability to respawn after death. The following link, second paragraph down:

And a lot of people love taking that risk. Everyone takes joy in different ways in this game.
