There are a few things I would like added to the chat channels, small but nice things.
1) Green Colored Text - When I post something, the only difference between myself and the others are [] this is somewhat unacceptable, I would like to always have a visual on what I just posted, so even if only MY posts are green, even that would help out tremendiously.
2) Public General Chat - When I join Diablo 3, I don't always want to join a specific channel, sometimes I want to just sit there and chat with people about my favorite game, instead I have to pick a channel which then splits everyone else up and there are almost always no conversations going.
3) Larger chat box - When I open up the chat box, I want that thing to be the entire right side of my character screen, so I don't have to read 1 sentence in 5 diffrent lines.
4) Guild Channels - I always thought this was huge in Warcraft 3/Diablo 2/Starcraft, when ever you entered the channel if someone had a bot set up, it would great you or kick you depending on who you are, I absolutly loved that, Battle.net 2.0 takes this funtion away, and chatting just isn't the same.
Whens the last time you logged into any of those games?
Public chat is dead. It's all spam and lobby just has lvl 1 bots/mules sitting afk spamming you their websites.
Those games are like 10 years old and chatting was the only social feature then because there were no voice chat. Nowadays ppl rather play with friends and talk over ventrilo or skype.

1. Unless I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure they already said they were working on different colored text, and they are aware of people not being able to tell each other apart.
2. Public chat channel defiantly does = the most spammers, but there's already trade, which is where I'm assuming most will go. Also having a public doesn't mean everyone will be in it, since there are a ton of different discussions. If anything it'l just add another channel to split up the players even more.
3. I too would like something larger, but I'm also pretty sure they are keeping it the same with SC2's style. IMHO it's not gamebreaking, and I really don't have THAT much to type to people. If you want to type paragraphs, there's always here =D
4. I'm trying to remember, but I'm sure Blizzard said something about supporting clans, but probably awhile after release.
I do not support this. I'll just be using Ventrilo anyway, and as a few have pointed out, chats like that just lead to spam, endless walls of bullshit spam.
