that wasnt my point big guy. people have already complained enough. thread on thread on thread screaming for change on the main forums ever since the day P13 hit. they get it. the ball is in their court now. and what they choose to do is final. more whining isnt going to solve or help anyone at THIS point.
and im saying because of this and because of the unlikely hood of it changing you should get used to it or your going to ruin the game for yourself holding a grudge and staying mad
I would rather people keep complaining until they do change it. If people stop, Blizzard won't bother. If enough people continue, Blizzard will have to change it. As far as the game ruined for myself, they already have. There are other things that they have done to ruin it for me, that I know they won't change (online only for example). This is a change that they can make relatively easily and it would make a huge impact on how people play the game. It's something that they "should" be able to do with all of their "expertise". For them not to speaks volumes about their attitude towards the community that follows them and their commitment to making a great game. That the community is so willing to accept it (and other changes) is another story.
are you familiar with the art direction petition? nearly 70 THOUSAND people signed a petition and there was THOUSANDS of people complaining hardcore 24/7 for YEARS screaming for art direction change ever since they first unveiled its look 3 years ago.
blizzard said and i quote "even if you get 10 MILLION people to sign it, we still arent going to change the art direction, sorry".
so no, more whining and bickering isnt going to solve a damn thing because this is BLIZZARDS game, not yours. not mine, not any other QQer on any of the forums.

Right. Hum. Starting the entire art direction all over as well as all that was everything planned and started, is comparable to, uh, reworking a UI that could be fixed within an hour by a single guy. Using examples where they did listen to a simple, right majority surely didn't come to your mind, right? They have been influenced (and they said so) by the community and what they said. Yes, its their game, but when something was obviously wrong, they have sometimes changed their minds because the community spoke.
And by the way, they have yet to say -a single thing on the matter-. As long as this is the case and as long as this UI is as senseless, purposeless and dumb as it is, this whining is deserved and should continue.

thats YOUR and some other peoples opinion. ive also seen a few threads praising the new UI with many likes. if blizzard doesnt think they made a mistake they wont "fix" it because they dont think it needs fixing. saying there obviously wrong is laughable because its merely your opinion and there is no "right" or "wrong".
the exact same scenario with the art style. they didnt believe it was a mistake or wrong and so they didnt change it despite 1000x more peoples opinions saying otherwise. the same will happen with the new UI (more then likely). im not saying it shouldnt be changed. i dont like the UI either im just saying its highly unlikely and people have done all they can do.

This would be a good option I have now tried the new version on the calculator and its horrid I even gave up making a build for WD because it makes it so much work to compare and flick threw skills let alone the runes.
Right, this. One thing I used to waste a lot of time doing (pre v13) was creating new builds on the skill calculator. "Oh, let's try a stunlock build!", "How about an enemy-slow build?", "MAX MOBILITY BUILD!".
How many builds I've made since v13: 0
I've got tunnel vision with this system. The new skill UI is counterproductive of one of the core game mechanics of diablo 3: Designing new builds. It makes the process difficult, tedious, and frustrating. I just don't want to make new builds any more. It's no longer fun for me.
Bottom line is that the new skill UI is designed for people that don't like to have to think when they are playing a game. Yes, many people hate thinking about anything. That's why there are no numbers in the skill tooltips by default, as well. Seeing numbers makes people have to think about things. For people that like to just sit there and auto-pilot through a game, this UI is great, and they are most likely a vast majority. Likely almost exactly the same level as people that only play through on normal with one character.
I wonder if they even think about something when they designed this new UI, it's also a pain in the ass for veteran to use...
It's like this UI is saying "it doesn't matter the skills or runes you will have later, take whatever you want, you won't remember"...
It may not be as beautiful as the op, but this is what i want.
It has the new design for the skills to chose (for LM, RM, 1,2,3,4), but put on top of eachother like it was before.
With elective mode you'll see as shown all the abilities and all can go everywhere, with drag and drop so you can swap places for two abilities (this should also work on the action bar). You wont have to wait for the cooldown between changing and viewing abilities like you do now, but you need to wait before you can use them.
When you choose an ability with elective mode you get promted to choose a rune to the right of all the abilities, so you can still choose another ability.
Without elective mode, only the respective 3 or 4 abilities will come up and the runes to choose between will appear belove these abilities instead to save space.
As a last note I really really personally hope that they will have an option to have unused abilities shown as *NEW* untill you actually have tried them. With 3 new runes each level it can be a pain in the ass to remember what rune you've newly unlocked (i already have this problem in beta). Reason for this being that, well i don't know about you, but at least I will try every new rune and ability i unlock all the way to lvl 60 just to check them out.
My biggest problem with the UI is that you can't scale it down (as far as I know (?)). I know most games let you decrease the size of the interface and it feels much too cluttered at the moment.
I think any UI that shows the user more than 3-4 skills at a time is probably a step in the right direction. Why am I flipping through 6 pages for no reason? Why are they making it so hard for me to compare skills? Isn't this game suppose to be largely about creating new "builds"?
People have been giving this new UI an amazing amount of slack, mostly because it is a product of Blizzard programming. The simple truth is that the new D3 UI is BAD DESIGN. This crap would get a C- in any game design class. We don't need to have long, drawn out conversations about it. It's just a poorly design feature that makes the game worse.
Implement this. Implement v12. Implement ANYTHING except the current UI design. No competent game developer would let this kind of thing slip by, let alone Blizzard entertainment.
Sadly, I believe Blizzard currently has the EXACT opposite opinion of you. I'm pretty sure they believe that showing 20 skills at once will overwhelm the idiot gamers that they want to purchase this game.
The fact that elective mode uses the same interface is a giant middle finger to hardcore gamers though. I don't think it's bad design really... it's just lazy, corner-cutting programming. "Let's just add arrows that navigate the user to the other dialogs we already made".
I hate to say it, because I know some people haven't been lucky enough to get into the beta... I love the game, I think it is amazing. Prior to patch 13 I played daily, logging at least thirty minutes of game play a day.
When patch 13 came out, I played a Barbarian to level 9 and then after that I tried to start a Witch Doctor. I was so annoyed by the new skill UI that I haven't logged on since... that is how obnoxious it is to me.
They went from a skill UI that was totally amazing to a skill UI that I feel is just brutal.
I'm still going to buy the game when it comes out, I'm still going to play it a ton and it's still totally amazing. But messing around with that skill window at low levels... when you can't just drag/drop skills... is the stupidest thing ever. It honestly feels like (even though obviously they didn't) they designed it to be clunky and obnoxious.
In a game where I agree with pretty much everything else, the skill UI is a major pile of trash. Bring back the old one (the one the OP posted), as it was about as good as it gets for a skill UI.
Changing these was the worst decision made in making Diablo 3, next to the shitty UI.
It's no secret, but it's really starting to feel like Diablo is turning into a little kid's game, and it's bullshit.
Use these awesome colored, spherical runes that have a serious Diablo 3 vibe to them? Nahhhhh! We'll use these stupid looking rune things that my 6 year old drew.
Compact UI so players can utilize skill selection appropriately? Nahhhhh! They're all grandmothers, remember? We'll just stretch it out over a bunch of pages and make it take up a crapload of space on the screen. That way, skill selection can be like a chore! Grandmothers like chores!
What GladHeHasBeta is really saying:
nobody say anything bad about the game development (like we're encouraged to do, BY BLIZZARD ITSELF); nobody voice your opinion if it challenges anything; we're always stuck with everything we're given; stop caring about the sequel to a game that you grew up playing, they're just games (that you have spent a lot of money on and devoted hours upon hours playing).
This is Diablo, not some stupid flash game on the internet that nobody cares about. This is a huge deal to people who are real fans, and though they could easily insult their fans to make money, their reputation will fall.
I'd rather make a high quality game and make a lot of money doing it, rather than just make a lot of money and lose massive amounts of fans.
and I just remembered, you cant switch your spells around easy now, If I want to switch my left mouse with my button one.. I have to wait for a bunch of CDs.. I have to move my 1 to something else CD, move my left click to what was in my 1 then wait for my one to finish cd to move what was on my left click to my 1 =/
I don't get it what is up with the wining about the UI ? Get over it already .. It's not that bad and its working ... What do u want more .. If everything is simple in this world where is the fun ??

its not that bad is your opinion, just as its it is bad, is my opinion.
What they had before, some of us were down right thrilled with how they designed that, from what it was at the start. to remove that, to something we down right dont like, is a big deal.
I whine about nothing when it comes to d3.. until now.. UI is important, to me.

First of all, the complaints regarding the new UI are justified.
The UI went from good to bad.
Also, the UI before was very simple to grasp to begin with.
There was no reason whatsoever to change the UI.
Half of you bitched and moaned (along with me) about the absurdity of hotswapping.
You don't... and you shouldn't be spending as much time as you claim to be doing skill swapping.... why is changing a single skill here or there that budensome that you caim that it ruins the game?
I have beta, and i don't mind the skill system ONE bit (other than the burden of trying to switch the bind of 2 skills you already have selected).
Also... even for a seasoned veteran...I AGREE with their UI. I was able to get my completely non gamer wife to play and enjoy the beta. Hell she even agreed to playing with me upon release.
to summarize switching 1 skill ... here ... or there... is not that cumbersome... so just STFU
